Elaine helps George get a new job at Pendant Publishing and he buys her a $600 cashmere sweater as a gift, marked down to $85 because it has a red dot on it. Jerry inadvertently gets Elaine's boyfriend, a recovering alcoholic, back to drinking.

!!Tropes:
* TheAlcoholic: Elaine's boyfriend, Dick, who was recovering, but Jerry inadvertently gets him hooked again, to the point he gets fired from his job. Fortunately, at the last scene, watching Jerry's stand-up, he's back on the road to recovery.
* ButLiquorIsQuicker: After a drink of Heinnigan's, George and Evie, the cleaning Lady end up sleeping with each other, though that comes back to bite George in the butt quickly.
* ChristmasEpisode: The episode takes place around Christmas.
* CrocodileTears: Jerry did some amused crying after hearing George's BS over him buying the sweater.
* CuttingCorners: George buys Elaine a cashmere sweater as a gift for helping him get a job, but it was very cheap though (marked down from $600 to $85) because it has the titular red dot.
* HesitationEqualsDishonesty: When Elaine asks Jerry about George buying him the sweater, he's hesitant to say anything, pretty much answering Elaine's question.
* INeedAFreakingDrink: When Elaine asks Jerry whether or not he sees the red dot on the sweater, she phrases it as "Do you see it or don't you?" This baffles Jerry to the point where has a glass of Hennigan's and has her repeat the question.
* InformedFlaw: Despite everyone making a big deal over the red dot, the red dot itself isn't visible to the viewing audience.
* KarmaHoudini: Despite Evie being just as guilty over engaging in sex as George, she doesn't seem to suffer any repercussions.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: When confronted by Mr. Lippman about sleeping with Evie, George pretends to be ignorant about the rules over sleeping with co-workers and defends he's seen other people do it. Mr. Lippman doesn't buy it though and fires him.
* OffTheWagon: Happens to Dick, though Jerry argues "off the wagon" means he's recovering.
* PlayingSick: When Elaine confronts George about him knowingly buying him the red dot sweater, George tries to defend the decision by claiming he had a 103 degree temperature at the store, was dizzy and seeing red dots everywhere. Elaine naturally didn't buy the story and Jerry responded by crying out of laughter.
* ProductPlacement: Parodied with Kramer, when he's playing around drunk, pretending to do a commercial for Heinnigan's.
* SentimentalDrunk: When George comes in, Kramer, drunk off the Hennigan's, tells George he's terrific, much to his discomfort.
* UngratefulBitch: When Elaine first confronts George over buying her the red dot sweater, George tries to twist it around where she didn't appreciate him buying the sweater for her as a Christmas gift, but it doesn't work. Incidentally, George could be seen as an UngratefulBastard since he bought her a really cheap gift as thanks for her helping him get a job.
* UnequalPairing: George, who has an office job at Pendant Publishing, and Evie, Pendant's cleaning lady.
* UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist: In the past episodes so far, while George has been petty and selfish, he did manage to garner some sympathy, if only a little bit. But here, it all goes out the window with George buying Elaine a cheap sweater as thanks for her getting him a job and when confronted about it, he lies about being sick and when Mr. Lippman confronts George about sleeping with Evie, he is aghast by their policy. This is the episode that defines the conniving, scheming George Louis Costanza.
* WomanScorned: George tries to move on from Evie, but she's not having it, even threatening to tell Mr. Lippman if he won't pursue a relationship. George responds by giving her the red dot sweater. At first, she loves it, even going into a childhood story about her wanting a cashmere sweater from a man, then quickly changes her mind once she discovers the red dot and promptly gets George fired.
