On the Island, Jin leads Rousseau's team towards the Radio Tower. They are attacked by the Smoke Monster, which kills Nadine and drags Montand into an underground tunnel, where the rest of the team, except for the pregnant Danielle, follows. A time flash takes Jin to a few months later, where he witnesses Danielle killing Robert. He finds Sawyer and the rest of the group.

Charlotte's headaches have gotten worse to the point that she can no longer walk. She reveals to Daniel that she was born on the Island, and that she believes she met a future version of him as a child, before dying. Locke finds the site of the Frozen Donkey Wheel. Jin makes him promise not to bring Sun back to the Island, and gives him his wedding ring as proof that he is dead. Locke climbs down a well to the wheel, where he meets Christian Shephard, who confirms that Locke must die to get everyone to return, and tells him that a woman in Los Angeles named Eloise Hawking will show him how to get back. He turns the wheel, which has slipped off its axis after Ben turned it, and there is another flash of white light.

Off the Island, Sun confronts Ben, who tells her that Jin is alive and gives her his wedding ring as proof. He brings her and Jack to the Church, where they meet Desmond, who has found Faraday's mother: Ben's new ally, Eloise Hawking.

!Tropes in this episode include:
* BigDamnReunion: Jin gets a big hug and a cheerful reunion with Sawyer when they run into each other in the jungle.
* CallForward:
** Montand has his arm ripped off by the Smoke Monster, which Danielle mentioned in "[[{{Recap/LostS01E23ExodusPart1}} Exodus, Part 1]]".
** The Bésixdouze Expedition picks up the transmission of the Numbers on their radio that Danielle told Hurley brought them to the Island in "[[{{Recap/LostS01E18Numbers}} Numbers]]".
** Danielle and Robert argue over whether their soon to be born baby, Alex, will be a boy or a girl.
** Danielle being forced to kill Robert plays out the way she described to Sayid in "[[{{Recap/LostS01E09Solitary}} Solitary]]". Jin also finds Rousseau's music box on the beach.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: When Jin asks multilingual Charlotte to translate when Sawyer is trying to explain time travel to him, Sawyer thinks he is talking to the Chinese descended Miles.
-->'''Sawyer:''' You heard the man, translate.
-->'''Miles:''' Uh, he's Korean. I'm from Encino.
* DiesWideOpen: Charlotte's eyes are open as she dies from temporal displacement.
* FrenchJerk: Montand is belligerent, constantly belittles Jin for no reason and is openly sexist towards Nadine, making it quite hard to feel sorry for him when he's attacked by the Smoke Monster and loses an arm.
* HaveWeMetYet: Jin is very confused when he encounters the young Danielle Rousseau, although he doesn't let on that he knows her from the future. Danielle herself doesn't seem to remember this meeting later on despite encountering Jin in Season 3, although the two share very little screentime and considering the amount of SanitySlippage Danielle underwent in the intervening 16 years it's entirely possible that she either forgot or assumed she imagined it.
* InsaneTrollLogic: Lampshaded by Daniel, who doesn't share Locke's belief that convincing the Oceanic Six to return to the Island will do anything to stop the flashes.
-->'''Charlotte:''' Dan, is this gonna work?
-->'''Daniel:''' It... it does make empirical sense that if this started at the Orchid then that's where it's gotta stop. But as far as bringing back the people who left in order to stop these temporal shifts? That's where we leave science behind.
* InterchangeableAsianCultures: Jin asks Charlotte to explain the time jumps to him in Korean. Sawyer thinks he's talking to Miles and asks him to translate.
-->'''Miles:''' Uh, he's ''Korean''. I'm from Encino.
* {{Irony}}: Jin gives Locke his wedding ring to prove to Sun that he is dead. Ben ends up using it for the exact opposite purpose.
* ItWorksBetterWithBullets: Robert's gun doesn't fire when he tries to shoot Danielle because she removed the firing pin.
* LameLastWords: Subverted. Charlotte's seem nonsensical on a first viewing, but become very tragic after their true meaning is revealed [[Recap/LostS05E14TheVariable later in the season]].
-->''"I'm not allowed to have chocolate before dinner."''
* MentalTimeTravel: Charlotte undergoes this in addition to the physical time travel caused by the time flashes as her DeadlyNosebleed gets worse, spouting bizarre non-sequiturs related to other periods in her life and regaining her old childhood memories of growing up on the Island. This ends up killing her, similarly to Minkowski in "[[{{Recap/LostS04E05TheConstant}} The Constant]]".
* PlotHole: Sun wants to kill Ben because she blames him for Jin's supposed death on the freighter. While Ben did trigger the freighter explosion by killing Keamy, Sun has no way of knowing that, and from what she knows, Widmore would be much more culpable in that event, but she has no problem working with him.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Ben gives one to Jack and Sun when they're openly discussing killing him in the back of his car while he is within earshot.
-->''"What I'm doing is helping you! And if you had any idea what I've had to do to keep you safe – to keep your friends safe – then you'd never stop thanking me! You wanna shoot me, then shoot me – but let's get on with it! What's it gonna be?"''
* ShoutOut: Charlotte claims she speaks [[Franchise/StarTrek Klingon]] in addition to Korean. Also doubles as NerdsSpeakKlingon.
* StableTimeLoop: Jin tells Rousseau and her team how to find the Radio Tower from which she broadcasts her distress signal. Jin himself only knew where the tower was because Rousseau told the survivors that in "[[{{Recap/LostS03E22And23ThroughTheLookingGlass}} Through The Looking Glass]]".
* TemptingFate: When the group arrives at the Orchid:
-->'''Juliet:''' Thank God! What are the odds that we would end up in the same time as this thing?
-->''(Another time flash occurs and the Orchid disappears)''
-->'''Sawyer:''' [[LampshadeHanging You just had to say something.]]
* TitleDrop: Charlotte says the title phrase to Jin while telling him to make sure Sun doesn't come back to the island.
* TravelingAtTheSpeedOfPlot: Desmond shows up in Los Angeles having apparently sailed all the way from England, a journey that would take at least a month.
* WhamLine: When Charlotte is telling Daniel about her childhood on the Island.
-->'''Charlotte:''' Because I remember something now. When I was little, living here, there was this man... a crazy man, he really scared me. And he told me that I had to leave the island and never ever come back. He told me that if I came back I would die.
-->'''Daniel:''' Charlotte, I don't understand.
-->'''Charlotte:''' Daniel – I think that man was you.
* WhatYearIsIt: Jin asks this question of the young Danielle.
-->'''Rousseau:''' We sailed from Tahiti.
-->'''Jin:''' When?
-->'''Rousseau:''' November 15th.
-->'''Jin:''' No. What year?
-->'''Rousseau:''' ''(Confused)'' 1988.
* YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe: Sawyer is [[RunningGag very frustrated]] when two time shifts occur in very quick succession.
-->''"Come on!"''
