In flashbacks, a recently married Sun is approached by a woman who claims that Jin's mother was a prostitute, and demands $100,000 to keep quiet. Sun investigates, and discovers that Jin's father is alive. She meets him, and he confirms that the woman is telling the truth. She gets the money from her father, who tells her that in exchange, Jin will have to start working for him directly. Sun pays the woman, who is Jin's mother, and threatens to have her killed if she reveals the truth to Jin.

At the beach, Jack starts inquiring about Sun's pregnancy. After Kate tells her about Juliet's research, Sun reveals that she is pregnant to Juliet, who tells her how pregnant women die on the Island. The two head to the Staff to do some tests. Sun tells Juliet about her affair with Jae Lee, though Juliet determines that Sun's baby was conceived on the Island, confirming Jin is the father. Juliet secretly leaves a message explaining her findings on a tape for Ben, then whispers "I hate you."

In the jungle, the group tries to treat the parachutist, who has been wounded by a branch. Mikhail, having somehow survived his trip through the sonic fence, finds them, and agrees to help her if they let him go afterwards. Both sides keep up their end of the bargain, though Mikhail attempts to steal the parachutist's satellite phone before he is stopped by Jin. When the parachutist recovers, she says that Oceanic 815 was found, with no survivors.
----
!Tropes in this episode include:
* ArtisticLicense: On the tape recorder, Juliet gives the day as Saturday. However, the episode takes place on Day 86 (December 16, 2004), which was a Thursday.
* BadLiar: Jin had previously told Sun that his dad died when he was 16, but here he says that he died while he was in the army.
* BilingualBonus: The parachutist's line, in Portuguese, that Mikhail claims means "thank you", is actually "I am not alone."
* DealWithTheDevil: Sun borrows money from her father to pay off Jin's mother when she blackmails her, but in exchange, he demands that Jin start working for him directly, which is how he ends up as his personal hitman.
* HonorBeforeReason: Despite the fact that Mikhail would be a very valuable hostage and now has vital information about the parachutist that he could pass along to the Others, Desmond still allows him to walk away after he treats her, just as he promised.
* ImprovisedWeapon: Desmond threatens Mikhail with a flare gun.
-->'''Desmond:''' You've got five seconds to talk, or I fire this gun, brother.\\
'''Mikhail:''' That's a flare gun.\\
'''Desmond:''' And how do you think it'll feel? Taking a flare to the chest at this range?
* LawOfInverseFertility: Justified. Juliet tells Sun that a man's sperm count on the Island is five times the usual average, explaining how Sun could be impregnated by the supposedly infertile Jin.
* MamasBabyPapasMaybe: Mr. Kwon admits that even he isn't sure that Jin's mother was telling the truth when she claimed he was Jin's biological father. Despite this, he decided to raise Jin anyway because he wasn't sure if anyone else would take the boy in.
* MommasBoy: Hurley takes the satellite phone and jokingly tries to call his mom.
* NotQuiteDead: Mikhail is revealed to have survived his apparently fatal push through the sonic fence.
* SayingTooMuch: Hurley lets slip to Mikhail that the parachutist has a satellite phone, while a dumbfounded Charlie wonders how he could be so stupid.
* SecretSecretKeeper: Sun finds out that Jin's mother was a prostitude (something even he doesn't know) and discovers that his father is still alive. Mr. Kwon asks her not to tell Jin any of this to protect him from shame.
* ShownTheirWork: The show finally acknowledges that Jin served in the ROK Army, as all South Korean men are required to.
* TemptingFate: Just as Desmond points out that nobody knows the group are in the jungle, Hurley accidentally lets off a flare, alerting Mikhail to their presence.
* WeHaveToGetTheBulletOut: Averted. Desmond tells the others not to remove the branch from the parachutists wound as this will make the bleeding worse. Mikhail does eventually remove it, but only when he is prepared to treat the wound.
* WhamLine: The episode ends with the parachutist telling Hurley that Flight 815 was found with no survivors.
* WorfHadTheFlu: It's implied that Mikhail is still at less than 100% after his near-death experience with the sonic fence, which is why Jin is able to chase him down and beat him so easily.
