A woman is chased into traffic by a gossip journalist. He is cleared of wrongdoing, but shortly afterwards he is shot. The woman's husband confesses to the murder but claims he was justified because the journalist was going to publicize information that would hurt his daughter.
----
* AndThereWasMuchRejoicing: A group of bystanders start applauding upon finding out who was shot.
* AssholeVictim: A huge part of the defense is essentially that the victim got what was coming to him.
* DrivenToSuicide: Abbott's daughter had attempted suicide once, and was concerned that Marco would drive her to an other attempt.
* ImmoralJournalist: The victim. The defense goes out of its way to paint him as a gossip journalist who is willing to spy on people with a telescope or go through their garbage.
* RippedFromTheHeadlines The first part of the episode is clearly inspired by the controversy surrounding tabloid journalism following the death of [[UsefulNotes/DianaPrincessOfWales Princess Diana]] (Schiff: "The public still remembers a mangled car in a Paris tunnel.") . After this episode aired, it was determined that tabloid journalists were not responsible for the crash.
