Officer Rick Newhouse hears shots fired and requests backup. The two cars sent out get too late; Newhouse is killed. The officers involved are clear but with Cragen's permission, Logan and Briscoe investigate on their own, finding out that both cars arrived at the exact same time even though one was 20 blocks father. They also find out that Newhouse was gay and the other cops in his precinct were giving him a hard time. Stone tries to prosecute three of the officers on second degree murder for deliberately not going to his aide, but the jury finds the defendants not guilty.
