In an abandoned warehouse, the body of 15-year-old Robbie Fenwick is found and the trail leads to his friend Jamie Mazer. Despite Jamie's claims that the death was an accident, Logan and Cerreta work out that Jamie deliberately shot Robbie. Jamie's excuse of not knowing how the gun worked does not hold up because his father, a competitive shooter, has been training him to shoot since early childhood. They then learn that two years ago Jamie killed a classmate in near-identical circumstances, including using the same excuse and his father corroborating his story. Stone insists Jamie be tried as an adult, and he is arrested.

Olivet's examination, and evidence from Jamie's mother both show that Jamie is being psychologically abused by his father and enjoys intimidating others. But court and police records relating to the first shooting are sealed; the judge won't admit them as evidence. Jamie's lawyer proceeds with an obviously false defence that Jamie's anti-psychotic medication distorted his sense of reality, and he is found not guilty. So the [=DA's=] office presses charges for the first shooting Jamie committed. When Jamie's own mother testifies against him, his father becomes dangerously enraged on the stand; supporting Stone's case that Mr. Mazer was an abusive husband and father whose actions contributed to Jamie killing two people. Jamie is convicted, and Stone privately praises Mrs. Mazer's courage, admitting that he couldn't bring himself to testify against his own children.
