Green and Lupo connect two deaths in a hit-and-run to a mortgage fraud scheme involving a Dennis Langdon. It turns out that he works for Mafia boss Nicky Fatone. The proceeds from the scam were stolen from Fatone's club in an armed robbery; the thieves committed the hit-and-run as they escaped. Green and Lupo trace Kim Brody, who seems to be Langdon's unwitting accomplice in the fraud. They use her in an undercover operation to try to catch Langdon - but then he, Fatone, and everyone else involved in the fraud are found murdered at the club. Robert Sinclair, one of the thieves responsible for the hit-and-run, is also dead. The detectives realize the other thief was Brody, his girlfriend. She is arrested.

The case is at risk of being dismissed because all those involved in the scam are dead. The judge agrees to sustain a Material Witness Order until the People can prove via facial recognition software that Brody, under the name "Claire Tomlin", is wanted for helping Sinclair escape from jail years ago. Rubirosa soon works out that Brody is having an affair with her lawyer Peter Berbatov. Brody is repeating a cycle of seducing men and killing them when they're no longer useful to her. Berbatov is caught trying to recover the stolen money for Brody, and Cutter and Rubirosa confront him with Brody's real identity. He agrees a plea deal.

Before Brody's murder trial can begin, she is summoned as a federal witness - having previously told the FBI that some of the homebuyers she met through the mortgage scam are potential terrorists. Cutter knows that she'll use this to get into witness protection and be given a new, protected identity so that she won't be prosecuted. So [=McCoy=] has both agents who removed her from custody arrested for kidnapping, and agrees to drop the charges against them in exchange for Brody being returned. But now there are less than 48 hours before she must be charged or released - and the facial recognition was inconclusive.

Brody manipulates a Grand Jury into releasing her. Berbatov, wanting to avoid losing his licence, offers to testify that Brody admitted to him that she killed Sinclair and the hit-and-run victims. But when Rubirosa warns Cutter that this would be perjury, he declines to re-apply to the Grand Jury. Brody leaves to testify to the FBI about the non-existent "terrorists." Rubirosa says that they have no idea who "Brody" really is: she's neither the real Kim Brody (who has been located), nor Claire Tomlin (who's now been identified, and is dead.) Cutter is thoroughly sick of the case and says he's just glad he doesn't have to deal with "Brody" any more.

!Tropes for the episode:

* DeadPersonImpersonation: "Brody" spent some time impersonating the real Claire Tomlin who died a couple of years ago.
* FemmeFatale: Brody killed her boyfriend after using him for her own purposes, and likely would have done the same to Berbatov.
* KarmaHoudini: "Brody" gets away with everything and will most likely receive a new identity in witness protection, allowing her to continue to operate undetected.
* ManipulativeBastard: Brody is this in the extreme.
* UndercoverAsLovers: Rubirosa and Lupo pose as a married couple in order to catch Langdon as potential marks for his scam.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: What led to Brody killing Sinclair.
