Dismembered body parts begin showing up in trash cans, and Green and Briscoe try to piece the corpse together; they identify him as Roger Barry. They find his blood on a kitchen knife in his girlfriend's apartment, but "she" turns out to be Eli Madison, a very wealthy corporate heir. Madison says he had to disguise himself as a woman to escape media attention over the unsolved disappearance of his wife Caroline. He was arrested on suspicion of her murder but, with no body, there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute. Because Barry's head and heart haven't been found, the cause of death cannot be proved. The defence claims that Barry died from a heart attack, and Madison feared he'd be accused of murder again, so he dismembered the body. The jury acquits.

[=McCoy=] now decides to prosecute Madison for Caroline's murder instead. At the time, Madison faced a civil suit over her disappearance but his then-boyfriend Dwayne Evans, who was to give him an alibi, was killed in an "accident" right before the hearing. [=McCoy=] and Southerlyn quickly learn that Evans was traveling with Madison in disguise as a woman. Madison's DNA is found on Evans' body, and this is enough evidence to charge him with Caroline's murder. In court [=McCoy=] highlights the fact that ''three'' of Madison's loved ones have died or gone missing; each time, Madison did not call police and instead tried to deny he was ever present. Furthermore, a witness refutes Madison's account of events on the day Evans was killed. Madison is finally convicted of Caroline's murder.
