Fraser helps a pedestrian who is hit by a car, only to find out from the man's daughter that this sort of thing happens to him often. Investigative reporter Mackenzie King is working a police corruption story and thinks Fraser might somehow be involved when he brings the oft-injured man to the hospital. Meanwhile, Diefenbaker refuses to listen to Fraser's instructions to stay in the apartment, sneaking out to explore Chicago, and attracting the attention of both one of the female neighborhood dogs and a dog catcher.

!Tropes
* ChekhovsGun: The Mace that Fraser noticed was leaking during his dinner date with Mackenzie ends up being used against a bad guy later.
* ChekhovsGunman: The dog catcher, whose truck ends up being carjacked by the villain before crashing it into a wall.
* DirtyCop: Mackenzie initially thinks Fraser is this. As it happens, this trope is her SingleIssueWonk and she has gotten in trouble in the past and built a reputation due to making wrongful accusations.
* FriendshipMoment: Fraser asks Ray for a favor, once, while Ray was clearly distracted watching a ball game on TV. Ray comes through in the end.
* HilariousInHindsight: Someone narrowly escapes being run over by a truck, [[Film/TheMatrix which smashes a payphone instead.]]
* IHaveYourWife: The bad guys take Charlie's daughter hostage.
* InsuranceFraud: Charlie is a former boxer who makes his money walking in front of trucks driven by accomplices, so that a doctor can charge for medical fees he didn't give him. As it turns out, Charlie is suffering some real injuries that the doctor isn't telling him about, [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness since he's not concerned about his long term health anyways.]]
* SherlockScan: Fraser reveals that he immediately knew Mackenzie was a reporter and not a nurse due to a variety of details, including her impractical choice of footwear (heels are no good for someone who works on their feet all day). Similarly, he is able to determine a witness is lying due to body language and an inability to spit.
* ShirtlessScene: While Fraser is taking a bath. He is then seen wearing only his Stetson and a towel around his waist.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Whenever someone wants out of the scam (getting paid relatively little to repeatedly throw themselves in front of cars), the scam runners offer them a large sum of money for one last job, [[SchmuckBait and then run them over for real.]]
