While Light walks with Penber's fiancée, he knows he has no choice but to kill her. He tells her that he can help her start the investigation by telling him exactly how the incident happened. He uses a page of the Death Note to supposedly record details of the hijacking of the bus, when in fact he is writing her name and cause of death (suicide). Meanwhile, L and the group get news that Watari will be joining them.
Light waits for 40 seconds for the woman to die, but she continues acting normally, saying that Kira will be captured. This gets him confused as to why isn't she doing what he had wrote down; at the same time, he's confused why Ryuk [[TheHyena can't stop laughing at her name]]. This hits him with a revelation: Shoko Maki was an alias. Light realizes that since she believes Penber was killed because he showed his ID to Kira, she would keep her true identity a secret.
At the hotel, Watari introduces himself. He has brought fake police I.Ds for the team to use, as well as special belts that allow them to contact Watari by pressing the buckle. This will allow them to keep in touch with L about future meeting times.
Light continues to make conversation with the woman as they walk to police headquarters. Upon learning that she worked with L in the past, Light seizes the opportunity to tell her that he is part of the Kira investigation and it would be great help if she joined as well. Tactfully he tells her that he would need to see some I.D. if she agrees to this. She gives him her driver's license, and he writes her name above the cause of death. One of the police officers walking back to the station just misses them. Just before the Death Note takes effect, Light lets the woman know he is Kira, and Naomi Misora wanders off to kill herself.
