->"The next morning Hiro Sakurai made his big debut at Fukuyama High. One by one, groups of students tried to befriend him, and they all came back with the same verdict ... He was a cold fish, through and through. I had never seen a student care so little about fitting in. It was as if he ''wanted'' to be left alone. And, sure enough, he was. By the end of the week, Hiro Sakurai had systematically frozen himself out of every clique in whole school. Even the ''losers'' wanted nothing to do with him."

->"The rest of the bog hut’s interior is pretty unremarkable, except for the cages. Now, the comment Nancy made to Ned regarding the hut aggravated me, and it still does:
--> ''There’s a bed in it, as well as all sorts of weird things. Like cages. Some big enough to hold a small child.''
-> What “weird things” are there really in this hut? Herbs, sewing materials, a fireplace, a bed, a dresser, cages, and various tools. For someone living in the middle of nowhere, away from virtually all human contact in the middle of a bog, those things don’t seem too far-fetched. Personally, what upsets me the most about Nancy’s comment is that the cages could have any number of mundane or innocent uses. The hermit could have spent his/her time tending to wounded animals that could no longer survive in the wild, which would easily explain the dishes in the cage that Nancy has to clean. That was my main reason for writing this meta - the fact that Nancy assumes the worst simply because this hut is in the middle of a bog and was once inhabited by a person who didn’t, for whatever reason, want to take part in “normal” society."
