* A movie about a man and his girlfriend who got [[BearsAreBadNews eaten by a bear]] is bad enough. Then there's Herzog's reaction to the ApocalypticLog...
** And it's not just that they were eaten by a bear. The audio itself is six minutes long, during which Treadwell ''is alive and conscious'' while being mauled. The attack was neither quick nor painless - he was literally EatenAlive. In pieces. Treadwell's girlfriend tried to fight the bear off but failed, powerless to stop the bear from dragging Treadwell into the woods, and left alone by herself before the bear came back for her. Website/TheOtherWiki's description of what was ''left'' of them is extremely upsetting to say the least. [[labelnote:NSFL]]"The mangled remains of Treadwell and Huguenard were discovered quickly upon investigation. Treadwell's disfigured head, partial spine, and right forearm and hand, with his wrist watch still on, were recovered a short distance from the camp. Huguenard's partial remains were found next to the torn and collapsed tents, partially buried in a mound of twigs and dirt."[[/labelnote]] It's the most horrific sort of death imaginable.
** Amie Huguenard's death will be terrifying when left to the imagination. She had a phobia of bears and may have been so traumatised and [[SurvivorsGuilt guilt ridden]] for failing to rescue Timothy that she couldn't [[HeroicBSOD defend herself]] or [[DeerInTheHeadlights escape from the bear when it came back.]]
** What's particularly scary about Herzog's reaction to the audio is the very quiet way he says "Can you turn it off?" when he's finally had enough. There's something artificial about his calm that seems to indicate he's trying very hard not to freak out. ''[[EveryoneHasStandards Werner Herzog is freaked out.]]'' Eventually, you see tears coming from his eyes and his hands trembling from the tape.
*** To make the point clearer for those not in the know about Creator/WernerHerzog... well, we are talking about a man who once got shot by an unseen sniper during an interview, to which his immediate in-the-moment response was to disinterestedly say "What was that?" before resuming the interview in a different location and shrugging off the interviewers concerns by saying, "It was not a significant bullet." Among Herzog fans, this incident is considered ''the tip of the iceberg'' among his antics, and that's even putting aside the visceral insanity of the production of [[Film/AguirreTheWrathOfGod some of]] [[Film/{{Fitzcarraldo}} his films]]. And yet, this CrazyIsCool man who [[MadeOfIron willingly jumped into a cactus patch on a bet]] and threatened Creator/KlausKinski with [[NervesOfSteel a murder/suicide if he walked off the set]] of ''Aguirre'' was [[NotSoStoic so visibly shaken by the audio record]] that he sternly and calmly advised/insisted that the tape be ''destroyed''.
*** Somewhat mirroring Herzog's reaction to the tape, we never see ''his'' face during this, either. All we see is Jewel's reaction. However Herzog was reacting to this tape, we may never truly understand the full scope of ''that'', either.
*** ''And the executives wanted the actual audio played in the movie itself''. [[NoJustNoReaction Herzog absolutely refused]].
*** Not only he asks Palovak to turn the recording off, he asks her to [[TheseAreThingsManWasNotMeantToKnow never, ever listen to it, and to destroy it as soon as possible]]. She hasn't destroyed it, and to this day, no one else has listened to the recording.
*** There's a reenactment audio on [=YouTube=] that mimics what Herzog might have listened to, and the comments say it gives them chills, especially the god-awful screams. Remember, this is a ''reenactment audio'', not the one Herzog heard. Yeah, we're better off not knowing the real recordings...
* Some of Treadwell's rants can be a bit disturbing at times. Some rants that come to mind are the ones involving poachers and a particular instance where he's in his tent and starts yelling for various deities (God, Allah, and some Hindu gods) to send rain and end a drought that's afflicting the animals he loves so much. While it's not always the ''content'' that's disturbing, his general demeanor can be unsettling; at some points he appears to be emotionally unstable (exhibiting wild mood swings) and extremely paranoid (his ex-girlfriend claims he was bi-polar and refused to take his medication). Can double as a TearJerker when you think about how badly he needed help and never got it.
