* Annie being carried away by her pedophile husband, kicking and screaming, after Elizabeth hands her over. Compounded when Elizabeth later lies to Corcoran about it, saying she sent Annie to live with a strange family in California.
* Season two gives us a brief flashback of what happened to Sara's brothers during the 1863 riots. We see them kicked, beaten, then hung until they choke to death before their burned bodies are finally shown. Even worse, it's implied that they weren't dead before they were set on fire!
