[[caption-width-right:350:For instant Narm, just add Goofy.]]

''Franchise/KingdomHearts'' has some [[Funny/KingdomHearts unironically funny]] moments. But there are some... [[{{Narm}} awkward]] moments that can make players cringe. Most of the fanbase are aware of these and even agree, but many see these as NarmCharm regardless.

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Kingdom Hearts]]
* Kairi's laugh during the introduction of her and Riku is unintentionally really goofy for how awkward and somewhat unnatural it sounds. Combined with the visuals, it makes it look really comical.
* Sora's first meeting with Maleficent before fighting Jafar ends in Maleficent just fading out of the scene in a way that is unintentionally comical. It looks like she just goes transparent and doesn't even say anything as she just vanishes.
* The Atlantica level attempts to recreate the drama of Ariel making the deal with Ursula from the original film by following the same beat of a fight between Triton and Ariel that ends with the latter in tears. The film's scene was a terrifying TearJerker, where Triton went and destroyed all of Ariel's human objects -- leaving her traumatized and therefore prone to making rash decisions. Here, he just destroys the thing that'll reveal the keyhole, making Ariel's "How could you?" seem extremely {{Wangst}}y.
* Some of Alice's dialogue in the English translation sounds far too contemporary for a character who spoke in a very prim and proper Victorian way in her original film. Thus it sounds very odd to hear Kathryn Beaumont (who otherwise does a good job at matching her performance from the original) saying things like "that is so unfair" or "so mean."
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories]]
* In ''Re:Chain of Memories'', there's a scene where Sora goes into his random, hands-behind-head, head-tilted-forth pose, he ''looks directly into the camera and smiles'' while saying "I guess there's no way we'll forget our most important memories!" This is such an {{Anvilicious}}ly unsubtle way of indicating that yes, they '''will''' forget their most important memories that it's hilarious!
* This exchange between Riku and the Riku Replica, courtesy of really poor writing/translating.
-->'''Riku Replica:''' I'm you. \\
'''Riku:''' No, I'M me! \\
'''Riku Replica:''' "I'm me," he says. Must be nice being real. A fake like me could never get away with saying that.
* After Larxene fights with Sora for the first time, he's obviously supposed to be having a bit of a break down [[BreakThemByTalking largely due to the things she said before she disappeared]], but its hard not to laugh because he swings the Keyblade around so awkwardly he looks like he's losing his balance.
* Though the scene in Destiny Islands with the two Naminés was supposed to reveal how Naminé tampered with Sora's memories of the place, she could have done a lot better than 'No, Sora! Don't believe me!'
* This game gives Riku a bizarre fixation on recognizing people's scents, which he references with shocking frequency throughout his campaign. He mainly uses this skill to "smell" the darkness coming from the Organization's members and he comments on how foul they apparently smell numerous times, which starts to give the impression that they just don't shower or something. Arguably the worst offender is the scene where he finally meets Naminé. Right in the middle of what is otherwise a well-written and emotionally powerful scene, he decides to say:
-->'''Riku:''' I knew when I met you. You and Kairi smell the same.
** Zexion shares this ability with Riku, and it’s just as awkward when he talks about it. Notably, he identifies Riku’s presence in the castle and even his connection to Ansem by smelling him all the way from the castle’s deepest basement, or so the wording of his dialogue says.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kingdom Hearts II]]
* Mena Süvari's performance as Aerith. To say her delivery is [[DullSurprise lifeless]], even for someone who died in her own game, would be an understatement.
* Due to GameplayStorySegregation, we have a scene where Kairi and Riku [[spoiler: are both wielding Keyblades and having trouble... against ''[[CutsceneIncompetence common Shadow Heartless]]''. Kairi swings at a Shadow and misses badly, but at least she has the excuse of no experience; after everything he went through, Riku swings twice only to have the Shadow dodge by ''jumping over his head'' BOTH TIMES.]]
* While use of TotallyRadical language is a rich, deep well of Narm in itself, most fans agree that Seifer's insult "That was undeniable proof that we totally owned you lamers" is the worst/[[NarmCharm best]].
* The reenactments of some movies were pretty ridiculous, too. Especially ''Pirates of the Caribbean'' (because of bad animation) and the flashback in ''The Lion King''. Young Simba's model looks like he's [[PerpetualSmiler perpetually smiling]]. Which makes him look awfully stupid. ''While watching his father's death.''
** Most of the lion characters' models look wrong. Their eyes don't focus, and their facial expressions never change. Scar in particular always looks like he's on drugs since he's always got his trademark evil grin as his permanent expression, to the point that his horror at seeing Simba (or Mufasa as he initially believed in the movie) looks more like joy.
** The climactic scene of Simba hanging off the tip of Pride Rock before Scar's JustBetweenYouAndMe moment doesn't seem so climactic when you take into account that, were Scar to throw Simba down, he would not really be falling that great a height and, unlike in the movie, the whole place is not on fire. In regular gameplay you can jump off of the cliff to no ill repercussions. Add in the lack of flames in Simba and Scar's final clash, as well as the lack of the awesome music that really bolstered the epicness of the original scene, and you’re left with a very underwhelming finale to the story.
** The scene where Rafiki divines that Simba is still alive. It's almost a shot-for-shot re-enactment of the scene from the film, but Rafiki's model's perpetual vacant grin, combined with complete lack of the movie's epic, triumphant music (or any music at all - nothing but ambient wind noises are heard) make it look like the old monkey is just crazy.
** Pete's Lion form in the Pride Lands, despite the fact that Pete is actually an anthropomorphic cat, they just tacked on Pete's face to a chunky lion body, with his mane looking like [[WesternAnimation/MadagascarEscape2Africa Makunga's]].
** Another example is how they reenacted the ShowSomeLeg scene from ''WesternAnimation/TheNightmareBeforeChristmas''. They throw Sally's leg in front of Oogie before he could kill SantaClaus. '''Like a friggin' bone'''.
** There is a reenactment of a scene from ''WesternAnimation/{{Mulan}}'' [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome where Shan Yu runs down the mountain alongside his soldiers on horseback]]. This time, there are no horses and instead of human soldiers, he runs alongside the Heartless. But of all the Heartless to choose from, they chose ''[[http://www.khwiki.com/images/b/bb/Rapid_Thruster_KHII.png Rapid Thrusters]]'' and no others. Seeing Shan Yu fiercely running down the mountain with these guys behind him is just underwhelming in comparison.
** Speaking of ''Pirates of the Caribbean'', the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSFRubNsoxI original PS2 remix of "He's a Pirate"]] counts. It sounds ''very'' badly synthesized and way too upbeat for the world you're in. In a world that's all about fighting pirate zombies and sailing dangerous waters, a remix like this is simply unfitting. Thankfully, the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjLtEqY8jKw 2.5 remix]] sounds a lot closer to the original.
* Donald Duck squawking, "Sora, it's SEFFIROFF!" In much the opposite way of a threatening villain like Maleficent saying Oogie Boogie's name, it's just as hilarious to hear Sephiroth's name coming out of Donald's bill.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_6mpKet-KI "Say fellas, did somebody mention the Door to Darkness?"]] One of the most bizarre moments in the series even with context.
* Goofy's "death" scene in the 1000 Heartless battle. The game plays this very seriously, with Mickey going on about how they'll pay for this... only for the next cutscene after to show Goofy alive and well, because the boulder just knocked him out and nobody bothered checking for a pulse or any sign that he was alive or dead. It's just a very strange scene whose intention feels confusing, especially considering that [[LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt many people wouldn't have bought Goofy dying in the first place]], given his status as your party member and an important Disney character. The biggest hint that its humor value might have been intentional was Goofy's line to a relieved Mickey: [[LampshadeHanging "Garsh, your majesty, I get bumped on the head all the time!"]][[invoked]]
* At the end of the second [[WesternAnimation/TheNightmareBeforeChristmas Halloween Town]] visit, Sora watches as Jack and Sally dance together, and he briefly imagines them as himself and Kairi. The problem is, because Sora has not seen Kairi since the end of the first game, he imagines her much younger and shorter looking self from that game. The result is a scene that looks less like a romantic waltz between two teenage sweethearts, and more like a doting big brother dancing with his little sister.
* The Olympus Coliseum sees Hercules be depressed for the majority of the worlds story after Hercules fails to stop the Hydra's rampage. This would be understandable had there not been a lack of victims shown or even any NPC's shown in the world at all in the Coliseum aside from Herc, Meg, Pegasus, and Phil. It makes Hercules look less like he is lamenting a failure to protect others and more like he is upset over a damaged building that could be rebuilt.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kingdom Hearts [=358/2=] Days]]
* Xion's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV77dvdzu0c&t=1m55s scream after being beaten up by Riku]]. Judging by the comments on the video, [[BrokenBase the fans seem to be split]] on whether it perfectly captures her anguish, or if it sounds too ridiculous to the point that it becomes unintentionally funny.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep]]
* In the English dub, Terra's [[DullSurprise voice acting]] cause many Narm moments. One of the worst of these is when he's trying to encourage a weeping Cinderella to not give up. He sounds so ''bored'' and unconcerned about the situation that it goes against what he's trying to say.
** Aqua's actress is not far behind. She sometimes sounds she has really low pressure or [[DullSurprise forgot to turn off her house's lights]].
* In the Japanese version only, the Wicked Queen kicks off the boss fight against the Magic Mirror by... getting angry and the anger possesses the mirror. It sounds like she's constipated. Fortunately the international version changed it to her throwing a potion on the mirror.
** It still sounds a ''little'' funny because it cuts to Terra gasping as glass breaking is heard. It instead sounds almost like she just threw something at the mirror to ''break'' it. Then it cuts to green liquid all over the mirror, which people joked was Mountain Dew (Which is green)
* Master Xehanort freezes Ven, throws him from a cliff, his body hits several rocks until Aqua grabs him and asks him "Ven, are you okay?" Yes, Aqua, [[SarcasmMode Ven is without a doubt okay!]]
* When Ventus and Vanitas [[spoiler: merge to form the χ-Blade]] Aqua- unconscious at this point -just tumbles away in the ensuing explosion. Like, not even dramatically. She just rolls away limply from the force.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kingdom Hearts [=3D=]: Dream Drop Distance]]
* So much of [[WesternAnimation/TheHunchbackOfNotreDameDisney La Cité des Cloches]], due to how watered down the plot is (the problem is persistent throughout several worlds in the series, but this is the most glaring example). The absence of any NPC's is especially problematic, considering we have no guards, citizens, or gypsies to fill out the areas.
** The scene when Quasimodo rescues Esmeralda is immediately followed up by Quasimodo holding Esmeralda and yelling "SANCTUARY!" like he had just passed a field goal.
** Frollo ranting to Phoebus about how despite his efforts to exterminate gypsies, they "thrive"... while the camera pans over the ''completely empty and silent'' gypsy camp.
** Frollo singlehandedly capturing Esmeralda... and dragging her back through all of Paris to burn her at the stake in front of Notre Dame, since we never see any guard minions to back him up.
** The climax of Riku's storyline is downright nonsensical with Frollo being on top of Notre Dame... while Quasimodo is just standing in the square below with Esmeralda. The worst example has to be Frollo getting randomly knocked off by the Wargoyle and plunging into the fires below, grinning like a loon and surrounded by the festive, colorful sparkles of his Dream Eater minion. Thankfully Sora's route is better about adapting the original movie climax.
* "Darkness within darkness awaits you." [[https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnunwIyMZGo33iHJ4F09eow Just a Pancake]] [[https://youtu.be/A4q_tjYRWTI?t=120 said it best:]]
--->'''Ansem:''' Okay, time out! [[WhoWritesThisCrap Who the hell wrote these scripts?]] I mean, really? [[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment "Darkness within darkness"?]] Darkness within freaking darkness?!\\
'''Just a Pancake:''' Stop complaining and continue with the script.\\
'''Ansem:''' I don't get paid enough for this crap.
* "Me? I'm already Half-Xehanort" the blunt delivery combined with the zoom in on Xigbar's face turns what should be a major OhCrap moment for the player into unintentional comedy. Sora replying with a flatly delivered "that's nuts!" is the icing on top
* Most of the game's Keyblades become this when wielded by Riku. Unlike ''Birth By Sleep'', which features multiple Keyblades unique to each of the Trio, Riku shares all of his Keyblades (with the exception of Way to the Dawn and Ocean's Rage) with Sora. The Keyblades both share fit Sora's character well enough, but with Riku most of them don't fit his considerably more generally melancholy personality and more aggressive fighting style.
* Dream Eaters themselves can cause these moments thanks to their neon coloring and their UglyCute design making them hard to take seriously whatsoever. Moments like [[VideoGame/TheWorldEndsWithYou Beat]] ambushing you by sending dopey, cuddly ''pandas'' after you and [[ClimaxBoss Riku fighting Young Xehanort]] only for a [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext huge neon elephant to slide onscreen riding a skateboard]] are just the tip of the iceberg.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kingdom Hearts III]]
* In the English version, Creator/RutgerHauer takes a ColdHam approach to voicing Master Xehanort in contrast to the LargeHam performances of Creator/LeonardNimoy, Creator/ChristopherLloyd, or even the [[Creator/ChikaoOhtsuka Japanese]] [[Creator/AkioOtsuka voices]]. Then comes the FinalBoss battle, and it's almost understandable why he isn't as hammy as the others when he has to yell, "COME, KINGDOM HEARTS!" in a high pitched and almost squeaky voice, making Xehanort sound far from intimidating.
** Speaking of Hauer, at the end of the cutscene in which the Second Keyblade War begins in earnest, we pan to Master Xehanort who begins observing the battle from his perch. Upon a close-up, he gives a “nyeah” while grinning at the camera. It’s really silly and a bizarre deflation of what had been a fittingly ominous and epic cutscene depicting the beginning of Master Xehanort’s endgame he’d been planning since the beginning of the series.
* Woody's bit in the end of the [[Franchise/ToyStory Toy Box]] world where he confronts Young Xehanort's HannibalLecture by straight up declaring that Xehanort has no friends and that clearly no one loved him. It feels like the equivalent of a schoolyard burn, while also practically talking shit about the overly-dramatic speeches the villains of the series are known for. This is also why it's NarmCharm, as the fans love it so much that its become MemeticMutation, as Woody is one of the only characters in the entire franchise that '''knocks Xehanort down from his SmugSnake attitude'''.
-->'''Woody''': Whatever you're talking about, ''[[ShutUpHannibal I don't care.]]''
* "[[WesternAnimation/Frozen2013 Let It Go]]" is legendary for a reason, and makes it into the game just about unaltered besides occasional shots of Sora and crew. Problem is, Sora just spent almost the entire movie's plot either [[TrappedByMountainLions trapped in a random ice dungeon or climbing the mountain repeatedly]], so neither he nor ''the player'' are given any context as to why the song's even relevant, turning the entire scene into a BigLippedAlligatorMoment for those that haven't watched the film since it's never brought up again afterwards. Sora even unwittingly points it out.
-->'''Sora''': Wow. [[LampshadeHanging I don't know what we just saw]] but... ''wow''.
* At the end of the [[WesternAnimation/{{Tangled}} Kingdom of Corona]] world, there's a boss fight at Rapunzel's tower where Sora, Donald, and Goofy have to fight Mother Gothel after she falls out of the tower and gets turned into a heartless by Marluxia. That's all good and it makes for a great boss fight. However, this takes place after Flynn was fatally stabbed by Mother Gothel. For those familiar with the movie, Rapunzel ran over to him in only a few seconds after Mother Gothel fell from the tower. She only does so in the game after Sora defeats the boss, something that can take ''minutes,'' meaning that Flynn was bleeding out in the background while Rapunzel patiently waited until she can continue the emotional scene. Then again, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfHA_wSDw_k the alternative would've been much funnier]].
* Once again, the use of “hurt” in lieu of “pain” comes back to bite us, as the early discussion in Twilight Town about what Data-Sora had to endure sounds really awkward, especially from a character like Goofy.
* The climax of [[Film/PiratesOfTheCaribbeanAtWorldsEnd Port Royal]] has Admiral Beckett finally get his just desserts and go down with his ship in a violent blaze as according to the movie. The problem is that he has only shown up for a grand total of two cutscenes before this and, much like the Arendelle problem above, Sora lacks basically ''all'' of the film context besides "Davy Jones and Beckett are bad". The result? [[ProtagonistCenteredMorality Sora and company cheering happily as they indirectly murder a fleet, because they have fun being pirates.]]
** The world itself also suffers the same problem Port Royal did in ''II'', except even worse due to the ArtEvolution; a super underdetailed and cartoony Donald and Goofy next to Davy Jones is hysterically out of place. Sora himself has a detailed look and pirate garb this time around, but he's still an anime-faced young PrettyBoy next to uncanny likenesses ripped almost straight from the film compared to the compromises before.
* The ''WesternAnimation/BigHero6'' world, in which at the start, Go Go gets knocked unconscious and remains that way when Baymax introduces himself. And then they proceed to leave her behind, knowing that other Heartless could be there and devour her heart rather than have someone protect her till she recovers.
** There's also the moment where the Big Hero 6 team and the three heroes are delivering a combined BadassBoast...to a ''Metal Troll Heartless'' who, being a [[TheHeartless Heartless]], is standing there, either completely dumbfounded or not remotely fazed by what they're saying. As well as this line from Hiro:
---> "It's not the sum of our parts. It's the [[{{Pun}} sum of our hearts."]]
* This game is the culmination of every implication set up by the series' lore, and as a result a ''lot'' of dialogue sounds ''utterly ridiculous''. Many of the series' concepts do much better when the player must interpret the rules on their own, and just can't be taken seriously when actually said aloud by an anime character to Mickey Mouse. The original characters often fall victim to [[DullSurprise wooden line delivery]], making a bad problem worse. Hell, even Mickey's voice acting suffers as he struggles to deliver some truly nonsensical dialogue.
* The first part of Keyblade Graveyard [[spoiler:when Terra-Xehanort strikes down Ventus, Aqua just stands there in shock, not even bothering to fight back against him. It also takes all of ''ten seconds'' before she even acknowledges that Ventus just got struck down, at which point she suddenly cries out "Ven!"]]
* No one seems to cheer after Xehanort’s defeat, let alone the moment after Mickey says that it is finally over. It isn’t until after Sora leaves that we finally get a large scale celebration.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory]]
* While it's [[{{Understatement}} perfectly understandable]] why Kairi would hate Xehanort, it's a little ridiculous when [[spoiler: she begins acting foolishly and recklessly aggressive toward a memory of him, who outright acknowledges the fact that he's just a memory and isn't acting remotely threatening - he's just standing there and casually talking.]]
