The Weepies are an indie folk-pop band from Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Deb Talan and Steve Tannen began as solo artists. They found each other's music over time, and the pair became involved and began playing music together as The Weepies after a chance meeting at a show in 2001.

They released their first album, ''Happiness'', in 2003. Since then, they have released six official albums, alongside several unofficial live concerts recordings. These unofficial albums were released with the permission of the band, provided that the music is available for free download, and the concert was not originally meant for an official record. They can be found [[http://www.archive.org/details/TheWeepies here]].

Their work is typically acoustic, featuring layered vocals with supporting keyboards and percussion. Lyric-wise, they've been described as "unapologetically sweet", and their music has been called "subtly intoxicating."

In December 2021, the pair announced that they were getting divorced and playing their last show in January of 2022. The band has since become defunct.

!!Tropes associated with The Weepies:

* DownerEnding: "Love Doesn't Last Too Long" and "Orbiting" are both songs about seperation. A character in "Sirens" dies in a car wreck, and the song is a GriefSong from the point of view of the narrator who survived the accident.
** After 20 years as a couple, the pair behind the band divorced and ended The Weepies.
* DualMeaningChorus: "Sirens" invokes a lot of nautical imagery about a shipwreck and the body of a captain, but is actually about a car crash. The titular sirens are emergency responders.
* {{Harmony}}: A big part of their trademark sound. Whether Deb or Steve are singing the lead vocals on any given song, the other one backs them up and harmonises. Notable examples of their harmonisation include "Keep It There", "World Spins Madly On" and "Sunflower".
* UnpluggedVersion: Their Live Session EP has stripped back live versions of a couple of their solo songs - Deb Talan's "Rocks and Water" and Steve Tannen's "San Francisco".
* VocalTagTeam: One of the pair sings the lead vocals, and the other one backs them up and harmonises with them.
