Spock's Beard (named after the infamous facial features of AlternateUniverse Spock) is a rock band from California. They may be regarded as the BoisterousBruiser of ProgressiveRock, and one of the bands that saved the genre from the Scrappy Heap.

After a good ten years' run as one of the world's leading ProgressiveRock outfits, FaceOfTheBand and main composer Neal Morse got religion and left the band in pursuit of a ChristianRock career albeit one that is still very prog-tinged in terms of material, with Morse focussing a lot on concept albums referencing Christian themes. In a career move similar to their great example Music/Genesis, the band has continued with drummer Nick d' Virigillio (who, oddly enough, was in Genesis during the Ray Wilson period) taking up the singer's mantle and recently released their tenth album X to great acclaim. Once he left, he got replaced with Ted Leonard and Jimmy Keegan.

!!Warning! May contain examples of:

* AngryMobSong: "Devil's Got My Throat" from Snow
* AscendedExtra: Sort of. Tour drummer Jimmy Keegan was promoted to a fully-fledged band member following the departure of Nick D'Virgilio.
* BadassBeard: And none of them even have a beard.
* TheBandMinusTheFace: Twice. First, when Neal Morse left to pursue a Christian career, then when Nick D'Virgillio left to work on Cirque Du Soleil.
* ChristianRock: Neal Morse's current occupation. Really awesome Christian Progressive Rock.
* ChronologicalAlbumTitle - V and X.
* ClusterFBomb: A pretty notorious section (titled FU) in the epic "The Water". The narrator subsequently apologizes for it.
* ConceptAlbum / RockOpera: Snow
* CounterpointDuet: One of the band's trademarks are multy-layerd vocal bits InTheStyleOf Gentle Giant.
* CoverVersion: "Beware of Darkness", originally from GeorgeHarrison. Strangely, they named a whole album after it.
* EpicInstrumentalOpener: Snow has one.
* EpicRocking: Oooh yeah
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: Gibberish.
* GratuitousJapanese: "Wherever You Stand", "Kamikaze"
* HeroicAlbino: The title character of Snow.
* HijackedByJesus: Snow. By extension, Neal Morse himself.
* IAmSong: 'The Light' is perhaps the most extreme example of this trope ever committed to tape.
* Keet: Ryo
* LargeHam: The whole band, but especially Ryo and Nick.
* ListSong: "Their Names Escape Me" lists the names of all who pre-ordered the deluxe package of X.
* LonelyPianoPiece: "Hereafter"
* MohsScaleOfRockAndMetalHardness: Generally ranges from 3 to 5, with occasional ventures into 6.
* MyLifeFlashedBeforeMyEyes: Appropiately, "A Flash Before My Eyes".
* NewSoundAlbum: Octane. It didn't last.
* PowerBallad: "June", "Ghosts of Autumn", "She Is Everything"
* RockstarSong: "Rearranged", written by Nick d'Virgillio.
* RuleOfCool: Apparently, this is why their ninth album is self-titled.
* SanitySlippageSong: Afterthoughts.
* SubduedSection: Most 5min+ songs have one.
* UncommonTime: Actually, the band uses CommonTime as much as they do Uncommon Time. They are quite fond of 7/8, though.
* WordSaladLyrics: On the demo of 'Mr. Potato Head'. A final version of the song with real lyrics has never appeared, and is unlikely to.
