American composer/musician, best known for being one of the co-founders of Music/{{Devo}}. After that, he went on to score various television shows (''WesternAnimation/{{Rugrats}}'', ''Series/BeakmansWorld'', ''Series/{{Sliders}}''), films (''Film/HappyGilmore'', ''Film/{{Rushmore}}''), video games (''VideoGame/TheSims2'', also known for producing the soundtrack to the ''Franchise/CrashBandicoot'' and ''Franchise/JakAndDaxter'' series), and even commercials (that [[EarWorm annoying jingle]] in the "Get a Mac"/"I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" ads). He's effectively part of Creator/WesAnderson's ProductionPosse, scoring five of Anderson's eight features (the exceptions being ''Film/TheDarjeelingLimited'', ''The WesternAnimation/FantasticMrFox'', and ''Film/TheGrandBudapestHotel'').

He also has a great interest in drawing and painting, and currently hosts the drawing segment "Mark's Magic Pictures", on ''Series/YoGabbaGabba''. His art tours regularly, including a show of the hand-painted postcards he sent to friends and family during his years on tour, a series of antique photos mirror-imaged to create the titular "beautiful mutants", and a series of paintings turned into rugs.

Mothersbaugh earned an UsefulNotes/AcademyAward nomination for ''WesternAnimation/TheLEGOMovie'' for Best Song ("Everything Is Awesome").
