A [[KoreanPopMusic South Korean idol rock band]], F.T. Island, short for Five Treasure Island, was the first group to debut under FNC Music (now FNC Entertainment) in 2007. Subunit FT Triple[[note]]Jaejin, Jonghun, Minhwan[[/note]] also officially promoted in 2009. The group comprises
* Choi Jonghun, the leader, lead guitarist and keyboardist. Mainly plays the keyboard in FT Triple.
* Lee Hongki, the main vocalist, oldest and FaceOfTheBand. [[invoked]]
* Lee Jaejin, the bassist, subvocalist and sub-rapper. Main vocalist and guitarist in FT Triple.
* Choi Minhwan, the drummer and maknae. Also the drummer in FT Triple.
* Song Seunghyun, the main rapper, subvocalist and rhythmic guitarist. Also often referred to as the maknae too as he's not much older than Minhwan and was the last member to join. He replaced former member Oh Wonbin in early 2009.

Former member:
* Oh Wonbin, the original rapper, subvocalist and rhythmic guitarist, also played harmonica. He left F.T. Island at the start of 2009 for "musical differences"; he became a soloist under FNC before eventually leaving to join another company and focus on acting.

They were an instant hit at debut, winning a lot of awards for their song "Lovesick", and greatly liked for their flower boy looks, dorky characters and, most importantly, playing instruments as opposed to most other idol dance-orientated groups at the time. They also made their major debut in Japan in 2010 after a few years of indie singles and have also found success there, with their singles charting high constantly and getting sold out concerts and tours.

Though they're yet to top off the success from their Korean debut and have had their ups and downs, they still remain as one of the most popular idol bands in Korea. They are known for being one of the few bands in the idol scene, Hongki's acclaimed vocals, their heartwrenching rock ballads and their increasingly genuine and likable personalities. They are currently working their way into becoming real artists as they write more of their own songs and pursue their desired sound.

----
This band provides examples of:
* {{Adorkable}}: Part of their charm; in contrast to their rock ballad image, the fandom often has a good (or embarrassing) time dealing with their quirks and odd or nerdy interests.
* AerithAndBob:
** Seunghyun's guitars are called Akugii, Guitar 1, Guitar 2 etc., Jonghun calls his guitars Girlfriend 1, Girlfriend 2 etc., Minhwan's calls his drums his rival, Hongki calls his microphone his girlfriend, and Jaejin calls one of his basses... Chris.
** In SF Heroes [[RetCon (the dance group anyways)]] there's the usual Hongki, Minhwan, Jonghun and Seunghyun... and then there's Zaizhen[[note]]Jaejin's Chinese alias[[/note]].
* AffectionateNickname: Examples include (but not limited to) Hong/Hongstar for Hongki, Hoonie/Funi for Jonghun, Jaejinnie for Jaejin, Minari for Minhwan and Hyunnie/Songsari for Seunghyun. Also Wonbinnie/Binnie for Wonbin.
** Was averted with Seunghyun when he first joined and hence had no nickname yet. He lampshaded it on a variety show saying fans would call out to the other members by their given nicknames... [[FullNameBasis and then call him by his full name.]]
* AllDrummersAreAnimals: Minhwan can sure drum like one, but he's otherwise [[AvertedTrope the quieter, youngest and saner member]].
* AnimeThemeSong: "Satisfaction" for Manga/{{Toriko}}, "Neverland" for Manga/{{Ozuma}}, and "Theory of Happiness" for the Toriko movie.
* AscendedExtra:
** Singing-wise; Jaejin didn't sing in their songs at all until some brief verses in The Cool vs The Pretty. He is now the subvocalist and sings the most after Hongki.
** Seunghyun and [[CNBlue Jonghyun]] were in an advertisement promoting FNC Academy predebut.
** The members' fake identities/alter egos from the "Flower Rock" MV went on to become SF Heroes and made appeared in two Japanese tours,[[RetCon except with different names and music each time]].[[note]]First they were a band as S-Men/Seunghyun, Men/Minhwan, X-Men/Hongki, Ramen/Jonghun and Amen/Jaejin, next they were a dance group with the members retaining their original names... except for Zaizhen/Jaejin.[[/note]]
** Jonghun was a very well-known ulzzang predebut.
** Hongki was a mildly known child actor.
* AudienceParticipationSong:
** "I Hope" - it's common for them to stop playing after Jonghun's guitar solo, so Hongki can talk to the audience and make them sing the chorus acapella with him before everyone continues playing.
** "Flower Rock" - expect Hongki to make the audience sit down/stand up after the bridge. Several times.
* BigLittleBrother: Seunghyun, the second youngest yet also the tallest at over 180cm[[note]]his official profile says 180cm but he's confirmed that he's grown taller since.[[/note]]
* BreakupSong: A good deal of their ballads, from hit song "Lovesick" to the recent "Madly".
* BoyBand: They don't like this label, but it's true. However they're more unique as they're a band unlike most others who are a dance group.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Would you expect a bunch of [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} weird]] guys playing serious [[PowerBallad rock ballads?]] And [[{{Pun}} rocking]] it?
* ButtMonkey: They all have their moments, but Seunghyun and Jaejin are the frequent targets, especially by [[{{Troll}} Hongki.]]
** When Seunghyun was absent from a radio appearance due to his musical rehearsal, [[http://djpri.tumblr.com/post/68993459368/pri-log-131203-ftisland-disses-seunghyun-on-old everyone took the chance to diss him]].
* TheCameo:
** The rest of the members (when Wonbin was a member) once cameo'd as Jaejin's character's obnoxious camp friends in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4Akb3lUl98 Unstoppable Marriage.]]
** Hongki and Jonghun, as well as the rest of their [[TrueCompanions Chocoball group]], took part in [[Music/SuperJunior Heechul]] and Trax's Jungmo's MV for their subunit song "Close Ur Mouth".
** Hongki cameo'd in an episode of Series/MyGirlfriendIsANineTailedFox.
** All members had a ''very'' brief cameo, having one line each, in the Toriko movie, [[http://youtu.be/k9s8nqzIKB8?t=4m55s at about the 5 minute mark]] when they were about to perform at a concert.
* CantHoldHisLiquor: Not so much that he can't handle it, but Hongki is prone to crying a lot when drunk.
* TheCastShowOff: "I'm Happy" features a good deal of Wonbin playing the harmonica, which he otherwise never got to play even though he used it in his audition for FNC.
* ChickMagnet: All of them. But Jonghun in particular, whose good looks has gotten many admirers even from those not in the fandom.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Seunghyun. His nickname is "16-Dimensions", meaning he operates on a completely different plane of existence. Watching his Good Morning Bob series is enough evidence.
* ChivalrousPervert: They love the ladies and think very well of their ladies. But most importantly, they love their ladies.
** Hongki once freely admitted to watching porn... on Jonghun's computer.
** Hongki always jokingly [[{{Troll}} (probably)]] asks Primadonnas to wear bikinis to their concert.
** Hongki and Jaejin have been seen liking photos of women and their [[BuxomIsBetter very prominent]] [[MaleGaze assets]] on instagram.
** A fanaccount said once the fan showed Hongki a balloon made to look like a boob, and he "kissed right where the nipple was".
* CoverAlbum: ''Memory In FT Island'' comprises of FTI's renditions of old Korean hits.
* TheCutie: Minhwan, especially at debut when he was really young. His aegyo and adorable and innocent personality/looks won many nuna hearts. He's matured and can't pull off aegyo anymore but fans still see him as this due to him being the smallest and youngest member with a happy personality.
** CuteBruiser: Minhwan, the youngest, smallest and cutest member. Who also won an arm-wrestling competition with all the 2PM members aka the "Beast Idols".
* DaddysGirl: Members and all their female pets (but they're just as affectionate with the male ones too).
** Hongki used to call his pet husky, Elysia, his daughter. She's sadly been given away due to difficulty in looking after her at the time.
** Jonghun and his cat Jasmine, who's made frequent appearances in his social media.
** Hongki even brought his dogs Pri and Madonna to the "Five Treasure Box" photoshoot and had one of his solo shots taken with them, to show they're some of his "treasures".
* DarkerAndEdgier:
** In their MV for "Hello Hello". Hongki's [[DeadAllAlong implied to be a ghost and dead since the very start]], and he tries to save his fellow members who are stuck in a burning building, which is surrounded by news reporters and the fire brigade.
** The PV for Japanese album promotion track [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EG5fV-rEkNU Free]]. There's dark make-up, smoking, drinking, and [[spoiler:Hongki throwing a punch at... himself.]]
* ADayInTheLimeLight:
** FT Triple focuses on Jaejin, Jonghun and Minhwan. They first performed as this subunit in early concerts to give Hongki and Wonbin a rest from singing, ans they official promoted in 2009 while Hongki and Seunghyun were busy with individual activities.
** Jonghun surprisingly sings a lot in "You and I", as well as Jaejin (though less surprising) - Hongki doesn't sing in it at all until within the last minute where he mostly does adlibs only.
** Part 2 of the "Heaven" MV solely focuses on Jaejin and his love interest.
** Jonghun in the "Madly" MV... [[AvertedTrope sort of]]. He was supposed to be the main actor yet the MV still ended up being 50% Hongki, with maybe 30% Jonghun and 20% everyone else.
** Jaejin has his own OST for Hongki's drama "Bride of the Century".
** Jonghun has a solo song called "Somang" for compilation album "Simboorum", composed by CEO Hang Sung Ho.
* DeadpanSnarker: Hongki, oh so much.
--> '''Ceo:''' ''(paraphrased)'' I won't be able to come to your concert.
--> '''Hongki:''' I never said I wanted you to come.
** "Did you see "Cheongdamdong 111"? My drama is better."[[note]]When recommending his drama Bride of the Century.[[/note]]
** "If you were Seunghyun for a day, what would you do?" "I don't want to be him."
* DistaffCounterpart:
** To newer labelmate [[Music/{{AOA}} AOA Black.]]
*** Some specifically see AOA's Choa as this for Hongki, due to both being power vocalists with similar voices. She sang a bit of Madly once and even has her own version of Hongki's "Bride of the Century" OST "Words I Couldn't Say".
** Labelmate Music/{{Juniel}} us called the female Hongki within their company because she is also outspoken and not afraid to challenge their CEO.
* ADogNamedDog: Seunghyun simply calls his electric guitars Guitar 1, Guitar 2, Guitar 3...
** ALizardNamedLiz: His acoustic guitar is called Akugii, which is short for acoustic guitar in Korean.
* DressRehearsalVideo: Naturally, as most music videos include footage of them playing their instruments and performing as a band with a stage-setting.
* ElegantClassicalMusician: In a rock ballad band full of attractive people? Everyone, duh (yes Hongki included when he does get to play guitar or drums).
* EmbarrassingFirstName:
** Wonbin had his name changed predebut because everyone kept teasing him for sharing it with famous actor Wonbin. He uses it nowadays though.
** Some fans would rather not remind themselves nor anyone else what FT Island actually stands for.
* FamilyBusiness:
** Jaejin's older sister and actress Chaewon was with FNC first, and was the one who introduced him to them. She has now moved companies.
** Seunghyun has a younger brother at FNC, Sehyun, who for now seems to be focusing on acting only. He's had minor acting roles including the bassist of The Stupid in ''Heartstrings''.
** Minhwan's parents owned a restaurant which had a mini-Minhwan shrine. Ownership has now been passed to his uncle who had to get rid of said shrine.
* {{Fanboy}}:
** Minhwan was a big fan of Nicole from Music/{{Kara}}. He has since moved on to A Pink's Bomi.
** Jaejin had his Suzy (from Miss A) phase. Other members have also expressed interest in her.
** Jonghun for labelmate Music/{{AOA}}. He especially likes Mina, who was once also Jaejin's phone wallpaper.
** Jaejin for Music/RedHotChiliPeppers and Jonghun for Music/{{Muse}}.
* FanCommunityNickNames: Primadonna, named after one of their songs from their debut album "Cheerful Sensibility".
* {{Fanservice}}: More blatant in their early years, but still provide some now of course. Especially when Jonghun's shirt is off.
* TheFashionista: Hongki, who enjoys showing off his newest nail polish/decorations on Twitter. He has won a Fashionista Award, and even an award for his nail art too. He has also recently started his first fashion brand [[http://skullhong.com/ Skullhong]].
* {{Flanderization}}:
** The members have a slightly rebellious outspoken image, especially Hongki, but they are still respectful and mean well. In the FNC reality show ''Cheongdamdong 111'', however, they were made the "villains" that were attention-seeking troublemakers and always gave the CEO grief. [[BerserkButton Fans were not impressed.]]
** To a non-harmful extent, one of their reality shows at debut upped their personalities/images a bit. Hongki was the funny rebellious cool guy, Jaejin was the [[SmartGuy nerdy guy,]] Wonbin was the [[BigGuy tough manly guy,]] Jonghun was the [[ChickMagnet sophisticated ladies man]] and Minhwan was the [[TheChick sensitive]] [[TheCutie cute guy.]]
** Jonghun's "straightforward and honest" personality doesn't always appeal to people and won't do him justice sometimes but he rarely takes it far. In the second season of ''Romantic and Idol'' however he was made to be too invested in chasing after Jewelry's Yewon, whom he [[SarcasmMode so happened to coincidentally]] said was his type earlier before he found out she was also in the show. This was while he blatantly ignored G.NA, who had taken a liking to him, as well as Yewon's own fondness for Btob's Minhyuk. The season was obviously quite scripted with him made as a designated bad guy, but it didn't stop some people from being critical of him.
* FoodSongsAreFunny: Subverted with "Morning Coffee" and "Black Chocolate" which are more tearjerkers than anything else.
* FriendToAllChildren:
** Hongki, who often works with them when acting and gets along quite well.
** Seunghyun, who often posts photos of him with his little cousins or other children. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebVqtS2T7vI There's also an adorable fancam]] of him at a fan-signing event where he's messing around with a boy.
** All the members with well-known mixed child stars Aleyna and Lincoln at Music/{{Juniel}}'s "Pretty Boy" party event.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: Do this a lot, [[{{Troll}} especially to each other]].
** In a Japanese interview, Minhwan was having a relatively serious talk... while the others pretended to fall asleep behind him.
** They (and Music/CNBlue and Music/{{Juniel}}) even did this during their CEO's acceptance speech when they all came out to accept the Best Composer/Producer award.
* FunWithAcronyms: '''F'''ive '''T'''reasure Island.
* FunWithForeignLanguages:
** While their songs do contain snippets of English, Seunghyun's "Good Morning Bob" videos are infamous for abusing English.
-->'''Seunghyun:''' My name Angry Bird. My face angry.
** They appeared on a Japanese show where they [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y971nKCiHvo attempted to learn English phrases]]. [[HilarityEnsues Hilarity ensued.]]
-->'''Jonghun:''' Hey come here! You lookin' sexy d-dtghrd..dress! DRESS!!
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfhq2HrR1wM This exchange]] from Hongki and Jaejin:
-->'''Hongki:''' My Brother.
-->'''Jaejin:''' Yes, my brother. Do you like pizza?
-->'''Hongki:''' Ya, do you like pizza?
-->'''Jaejin:''' I like pizza.
-->'''Hongki:''' I like pizza too.
** [[http://ninabinhwan.tumblr.com/post/75358113823/learn-english-with-lee-jaejin Jaejin's (old) twitter]] was notorious for random nonsensical English, and fans had fun trying to figure our what they meant half the time.
* GenkiGirl: Hongki and Seunghyun are the band's the energetic moodmakers and often the source of their hijinks.
** The members overall are this, and even won a "Fun and Fearless" award at one of the Golden Disc Awards.
* GratuitousEnglish: Everyone who isn't Jaejin.
** Jaejin sometimes isn't immune to this either though. See: "Hit the Sands"[[note]]Neverland English version[[/note]] and Theory of Happiness English version, where it's nearly impossible to catch what he's saying.
** Hongki's a frequent abuser:
-->'''Hongki:''' ''(at a Singapore concert)'' Minhwan is... die.
** Seunghyun's another frequent abuser, as seen in the "Good Morning Bob" videos. Also try interpreting a ''thing'' of what he's saying in his talking segments of "It's U", both studio version and live.
* HeavySleeper: Seunghyun once slept for ''27 hours straight''.
* HeightAngst: Hongki and Minhwan, who are estimated to be less than 170cm tall. They frequently worry about working alongside tall females.
** Hongki was even initially rejected from FT Island due to his short height, until they called him back. He called out on their CEO in a talk show, complaining he only pays attention to the tall people in his company. Fellow shortie labelmates present agreed.
** Minhwan's ideal girl is short, "preferably 163cm or less".
* HeterosexualLifePartners:
** All the members with each other, but especially maknae line Seunghyun/Minhwan, hyung/90 line Hongki/Jonghun and VitriolicBestBuds Hongki/Jaejin.
** Hongki/[[SuperJunior Heechul]], Hongki/[[OneOkRock Taka]], Hongki/[[{{B2ST}} Junhyung]].
*** Super Junior members have even complained about Heechul hanging out with him too much.
** Minhwan and {{Infinite}}'s Myungsoo.
** Jonghun and [[BigBang Seungri]].
** Seunghyun and Park Jibin. They have taken many photos together.
** Jaejin and [[SHINee Key]].
* HighSchoolMusical: Jaejin played Troy in the Korean musical version. Yes, really.
* HiredForTheirLooks:
** The person who scouted Jonghun followed and persuaded him because of his good looks.
** Jaejin being very photogenic was what helped FNC's decision in putting him in the band.
* HollywoodToneDeaf: Hongki [[http://youtu.be/_xbjGmvkiRQ does this]] in their cameo of Unstoppable Marriage, where [=FT4=] are "playing" as a band... only for Jaejin's character to turn off the CD player and reveal Hongki's bad singing (and everyone else's handsync).
* IdenticalStranger:
** Hongki and {{MBLAQ}}'s Mir. When the latter guested on Idol Maknae Rebellion which Seunghyun was on and both faced off, Seunghyun complained he reminded him too much of his hyung.
** Minhwan's looks have also been compared to Music/{{Rain}}. He gave a ShoutOut by dancing to "Rainism" at a concert.
** Jonghun is a male version of [[Music/GirlsGeneration Tiffany.]]
** Seunghyun to Lee Seunggi, mostly for having a similar smile to him.
* IdolSinger: They fight against this image, however, wanting to be known not as idols but as real musicians.
* IllGirl: Gender-inversions:
** Mild, but Seunghyun's more fragile than fellow members and was nicknamed the Walking Hospital predebut. He has nerves-related problems which sometimes causes his fingers to shake uncontrollably, and one concert had to be briefly brought to a halt because his leg had really bad cramps - after it was treated, he was only allowed to play sitting down and barefooted. It's because of this that he will finish his army enlistment quicker than other members, as one's health determines how long they can serve in the army for.
** The Weekly Idol [=MCs=] were jokingly convinced Jaejin was this, always saying he looked like a sickly old man and worrying over him getting tired. In his latest appearance on the 2014 special episode, they were finally satisfied with how healthy he looked.
* IncrediblyLongNote: Their [[PowerBallad ballads]] in particular are full of these, and Hongki's often praised for his ones (and he gets ''a lot'').
** Jaejin has also acquired a lot of these following his continuous vocal improvement, for example in "Paper Plane".
** Seunghyun gets to sing them in his musicals. His encore appearances in JackTheRipper was basically him belting [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xO7b2jG16xo "NAEGA JAAAAAAAAAAACK".]][[note]]"I am Jack."[[/note]] He also has a few in "Morning Coffee".
** Though none in studio recordings, Minhwan gets many opportunities to sing some at concerts, musicals and other lives. It is now tradition to have him sing Hongki's long note in "I Confess".
* JackOfAllTrades: All the members can play instruments other than their own (in particular, everyone can play at least decently on the piano and guitar). They also write lyrics, compose songs, and are fluent in Japanese. ''And'' they can all sing, with the weakest singer (Jonghun) being the only unimpressive one, but even he's had his okay moments.
** Jonghun and Seunghyun in particular have been playing piano since childhood, longer than the guitar. Jonghun provides the piano in their songs and lives when possible as the keyboardist, Seunghyun however has rare opportunities to play for fans.
** Hongki knows how to drum thanks to his role as Anjell drummer Jeremy in Series/YouAreBeautiful, and him drumming in SF Heroes and his movie shows he still hasn't forgotten.
* KoreanDrama:
** Hongki was a child actor and has been actively acting again in recent years. He was in the popular Series/YouAreBeautiful, has been the lead in other productions such as "The Bride of the Century", and is set to lead again in upcoming drama "Modern Farmer".
** Minhwan and Jaejin both acted in drama sitcoms in their early years. Former member Wonbin also acted in a sitcom at some point after his departure.
* LawOfDisproportionateResponse: Minhwan and [[Music/CNBlue Minhyuk]] once had a drumming contest during their trainee days, where they had to power-drum as much damage as possible to their drum-sets. Determined to win, Minhwan ''poured acid on his set''.
* TheLeader: Officially Jonghun, and a good one at that. Yet so many people think it's [[FaceOfTheBand Hongki]], to his (and fans') chagrin.
* LeadBassist: Jaejin, Type B, as he sings the most after Hongki.
* LighterAndSofter:
** "I Hope", compared to all the previous angsty rock ballads.
** "Like The Birds" and "I Wish" likewise followed previous angsty/melancholy title tracks,
* LikeBrotherAndSister:
** All the members consider each other as brothers, and certainly not in a forced chummy manner.
** They're also brother-like with labelmate Music/CNBlue, and becoming this for upcoming labelmate N.Flying.
** A straight example as big brother to little sister labelmates Music/Juniel and Music/{{AOA}}.
* ManChild: They can be mature, but otherwise it's sometimes hard to believe they're all over 20 due to their hijinks.
* MeaningfulName: Many of their album names.
** ''20 [twenty]'' - the members' average age at the time was 20 years old.
** ''Thanks To'' - the mini was mostly made as a thank you and gift to Primadonnas.
** ''New Page'' - to indicate a [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin new page]] in their life and music.
** Their band name itself, where each member brings a treasure of talent to their fans.
* MotorMouth: Some of Seunghyun's raps do this.
** Special mention to his rap in "I Want", where he raps very fast ''and'' very softly, making it practically unintelligible. Except for the [[FunWithForeignLanguages "I want you]] [[ThatCameOutWrong in my body"]] line.
* MrFanservice: Jonghun, especially when showing off his abs and toned body in general. Several photoshoots are not shy about this and have him topless.
* MundaneMadeAwesome: ''"Do you know FT Island?"''
** And the response, ''"Do you know Primadonna?"''
* TheMusical:
** Seunghyun ie. the most active and keen one: JackTheRipper, Summer Snow, TheThreeMusketeers (in which he did two runs of shows).
** Jaejin, the first to participate in one: Sonagi, HighSchoolMusical.
** Hongki: AMidsummerNightsDream, {{Dracula}}.
** Minhwan: Gwanghwamun Sonata, {{Goong}} and JosephAndTheAmazingTechnicolorDreamcoat.
** Also Wonbin, who too participated in TheThreeMusketeers (not at the same time as Seunghyun though).
* TheNapoleon: Hongki, the 2nd shortest and hot-headed. Minhwan is also this with his short height though minus the aggressiveness/hotbloodness.
* NewSoundAlbum: "Cross and Change", where the band known for their rock ballads went nearly-full pop rock. They have now embraced both sounds however and will waver between both.
* NotAMorningPerson: Minhwan, Jaejin and Seunghyun can be woken up pretty easily. Jonghun takes a bit more effort. To get Hongki up, it takes three members playing the xylophone, clapping and yelling.
** In an older reality show episode when they were in Japan, Hongki was also the last one up. When he still wouldn't budge from his bed, Minhwan [[DramaQueen concluded he was dead and mourned for him.]]
* OfficialCouple: Temporary and not serious of course, but Hongki with Fuji Mina for Global We Got Married. They have remained friends since they finished the show.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Jaejin. He's been mistaken to be younger than Seunghyun before, and even as young as Minhwan (moreso in the past though).
* OnlySaneMan: Minhwan and Jonghun. It's not that they're 100% normal, it's just the other three are much crazier and louder than they are. The role may switch between the two of them or [[NotSoAboveItAll may not be played at all.]]
* PissTakeRap: The raps in their songs generally aren't out of place/sound fine, but some people have mixed feelings about Seunghyun/Jaejin's (and back then Wonbin's) rapping and are glad the raps have been decreasing lately.
** Seunghyun and Jaejin sound pretty good though when compared to the others who are often made to do freestyle rap on radio and are pretty sucky at it.
* PowerBallad: They're most famous for them. Amongst their many ones, "Lovesick" was a big hit and other ones such as "Severely" and "Distance" have also done well.
* PowerWalk: Done in their "So Today" MV towards the end. Also used in the "After Love" MV.
* PutOnTheBus: Hongki took a break from activities after his accident and subsequent injuries.
** BusCrash: Hongki also had to leave the first season of "Cheongdamdong 111" and "Fashion Killa" because of it. Jaejin took his spot in the latter.
* RealMenWearPink:
** Hongki's heavy interest and active involvement in nail-art and fashion, going as far as to release a nail-art photobook and his own fashion brand Skullhong.
** Minhwan has openly admitted to liking pink, calling it one of his favourite colours.
** The members minus Hongki actually [[http://music.mthai.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Idol-Star-Athletics-Championship-2013-ftisland.jpg did wear pink]] at the 2013 Idol Star Athletics Championship as it was their team's colour.
* {{Retraux}}: The concept of "Cross and Change"/"I Hope" promotions, especially since they traveled back in time in the MV.
* RunningGag:
** Seunghyun's Harisu imitation, as well as his caveman impersonations.
** In every Weekly Idol they've appeared in the [=MCs=] would comment on how sickly and fragile Jaejin looked. Even when they finally appeared again after over 2 years, they still took a moment to comment on how much healthier Jaejin looked.
** Jaejin the hairy man, courtesy of Hongki. [[HypocriticalHumor Who is notorious for hairy legs himself.]]
** Minhwan's "Hing Minari!" aegyo expression. The gag before was how cute yet cringeworthy it was, nowadays the gag is how cringeworthy and uncute it is now that he's grown up.
** Minhwan's love for chicken.
** Seunghyun's [[SoBadItsGood passionate godawful dancing,]] especially to [[SHINee Ring Ding Dong]].[[invoked]]
*** Also Jonghun and Jaejin's equally bad dancing to Music/{{Rain}}.
** Seunghyun being called the one with Baseless/Groundless Confidence on Makbanshi, [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption because he was always too confident in things he always wasn't good at.]]
** Hongki asking fans to [[ChivalrousPervert come to their concerts in bikinis.]]
* SelfTitledAlbum: "Five Treasure Island", their first (major) Japanese album.
* SerenadeYourLover:
** Hongki did this several times to his onscreen wife Mina during their run on We Got Married.
** This was a mission on Idol Maknae Rebellion, and Seunghyun sang "Falling Slowly" while playing the guitar to said woman. All was looking (and sounding) good, until he paused which everyone assumed meant he was finished... and then kept going. This [[MomentKiller lost him some brownie points]].
* ShesGotLegs: Gender-inverted with Seunghyun and his long skinny legs.
* {{Shiptease}}: Not as much as the first few years but they still show signs of this.
** Hongki/Jonghun, Hongki/Jaejin give the most moments in the group. Jaejin/Seunghyun and Seunghyun/Minhwan are also not shy about skinship and whatnot.
** Seunghyun and labelmate Song Eunyi for subunit Two Song Place in their MV and performances. Mostly PlayedForLaughs (and also the point of the song, which questions males' skewered and specific preferences for height, age and looks in women).
** Seunghyun and labelmate Music/{{Juniel}}. They're often found next to each other, were playful together when pre-recording a Gayo Daejun collaboration and there's a photo of them and other members at a staff wedding with Seunghyun's arm around her. Someone even cropped it and sent it to Seunghyun, which he tweeted. It helps they share(d) the same guitar teacher (with Music/CNBlue's Jonghyun too).
** Jaejin and Juniel got a bit of this too when they did a wedding shoot together on Fashion Killer. Near-kissing was involved.
* SiblingRivalry: Friendly rivalry with their labelmate Music/CNBlue. Hongki has stated that their company uses FT Island as guinea pigs for CN Blue, but most fans agree that both bands are equally talented and shouldn't be compared.
* SignatureMove: Hongki's hand/body movements:
** "Hello Hello" has the angsty hand-wave when "hello hello"/"goodbye goodbye" is sung.
** "Severely" has the "mic stand move", where at the chorus Hongki holds and moves the mic stand around and staring intensely like its his lover.
** "I Wish" has Hongki's "shoulder" dance, where he waves them at the "lonely lonely"/"love me love me" parts. Several people including other members often mimic this whenever singing/lipsyncing/dancing to it.
* SimilarSquad: With newer labelmates Music/CNBlue. Both are idol-rock bands and inspiring-songwriters from FNC, and member counterparts follow as vocalists and FaceOfTheBand Hongki/Yonghwa, guitarists Jonghun/Jonghyun/sometimes Seunghyun, drummers Minhwan/Minhyuk and bassists Jaejin/Jungshin. Amusingly, fans have even pointed out the similarity in some of their names. FNC has toyed with this a few times, and each pair seem to be particularly good friends too, especially 2GtJH and the bassists.
* SingerSongwriter: All members are capable of singing and writing their own music, but especially applies to Hongki, Jaejin and Seunghyun aka three vocalists.
* TheSmartGuy: Jaejin. He was an honour student and he briefly had a [[HollywoodNerd nerd image]] at debut.
** He also is the best in Japanese and English in the group, and often the one who explains their albums or songs.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Just two.
** Hongki, Honggi?
** Jonghun, Jonghoon?
* SpellingSong: Self-titled song "FT Island". Also towards the end in "Troublemaker".
* StepUpToTheMicrophone: Besides being FT Triple's main vocalist, Jaejin also sings solo in two of their Japanese songs, "Rock'n'Roll" and "Yume". He also sings solo in Japanese song "Friends" with Seunghyun backing him up.
* SurprisinglyGoodForeignLanguage:
** Japanese. Justified as they spent a lot of time in Japan in their indie days and already didn't need a translator when they made their major debut there.
*** Jaejin is said to be the best at Japanese and [[SurprisinglyGoodEnglish English]] in the group, frequently acting as their spokesman in these cases. Listening to "The One" shows how clean his English is [[GratuitousEnglish compared to everyone else.]]
** Before leaving, Wonbin was the one apparently best at Japanese. His goodbye letter, while likely written by someone else, was otherwise said quite fluently.
* TeamMom[=/=]TeamDad: Hongki and Jonghun, who are the oldest. Both have characteristics of both tropes - both display leadership skills and will be stern to younger members when necessary, but they also take good care of them too.
* TeenIdol: Were this at debut and very popular, with Minhwan debuting at age 14. Seunghyun was 16 when he joined later on. They are now not only in their 20s but also working hard to break the idol image.
* TemptingFate: When the order of the performances was being drawn on an "Immortal Song" episode, one of the members commented that they hope they won't be picked as first. Guess who performed first.
* TitleTrack: Their Japanese singles.
* TranslatedCoverVersion:
** Korean and/or English versions of some Japanese songs have been released as bonus tracks, such as "Theory of Happiness" and "Flower Rock".
** A fair amount of their Japanese songs from ''20 [twenty]'' were translated into Korean for their album ''Five Treasure Box'', and ''All About'' is specifically a Korean album full of Korean versions of selected Japanese songs.
** Subverted in Japan: while it's the norm for Korean idols to do this for their Korean songs, FT Island's major Japanese songs have been all original - and even in their indie days, only one B-side was a remake of a Korean song ("Always Be Mine", English version of "First Kiss").
* {{Troll}}: All love to mess with people, especially with each other. Hongki's the biggest troll of all.
** In a Japanese live event, [[AudienceParticipationSong "I Hope"]] was performed and Hongki as usual was singing with the audience in their acapella routine. The other members, however, purposely didn't come in at their cue (and signaled to the audience earlier to keep quiet about it), thus Hongki excitedly jumped... to no music. Everyone (but Hongki) found it hilarious.
* TrueCompanions: The whole group, who are determined to stick by one another in the good and hard times.
** Chocoball line, which comprises Hongki, Jonghun and other AB-blooded people such as [[SuperJunior Heechul]] (the founder) and Jang Geun Suk.
** 91 line, which comprises Jaejin and other 91-born idols such as [[SHINee Key]], [[{{TwoAm}} Jinwoon]], [[MissA Min]], [[{{MBLAQ}} Mir]], [[{{Kara}} Nicole]]...
** A 92 line group has more or less been formed with Seunghyun, Minhwan and some others including After School's Lizzy and Block B's Park Kyung and Zico.
** With CN Blue, the labelmates who debuted after them. The two are the core of FNC and were their only artists for a while before the others came along. Despite constant comparisons and their [[FanDumb fandom wars]], they're still good friends.
* UpdatedRerelease:
** Bonus tracks of ''Best Recommendation For JAPAN'' included "FT Island" and "Primadonna" with Seunghyun singing Wonbin's parts.
** "FT Island" and "Primadonna" instrumentals were slightly rearranged and rerecorded for Japanese indie album ''Prologue of FT Island''.
* {{Unperson}}: In one of their DVD documentaries released end of 2009, a variety show appearance from 2008 was included but Wonbin's scenes were promptly edited out.
* VitriolicBestBuds:
** Jaejin and Hongki. They always take jabs at each other but are very good friends and a [[HoYay popular ship]].
** Seunghyun and Hongki, who truly value each other but otherwise clash a lot. In a Weekly Idol episode the [=MCs=] even jokingly held a counselling-like session for the two of them.
*** Seunghyun once said he wants to make his own company and have Hongki work for him.
** Minhwan and Wonbin were this. The latter would often bully the former especially if aegyo was involved - nevertheless they have a strong brother relationship.
* VocalTagTeam: Hongki/Jaejin/Seunghyun, especially the first two - more apparent in their Japanese singles though.
** Rap Tag Team: Jaejin and Seunghyun in "I Hope", "Hello Hello" and "Like The Birds".
** Songwriting Tag Team: Seunghyun and Minhwan, who are nearly always write their songs together.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse:
** Jaejin deleted his (old) twitter without warning and still has not provided a reason for why he did it.
*** The main speculation for why he did so is that beforehand he tweeted a made-up phone number jokingly asking everyone to call it. [[GoneHorriblyRight The number turned out to be real and said number got numerous calls,]] and Jaejin felt pretty bad about it.
** Meanwhile Minhwan has not tweeted on his for over a year, and he has no other social media which leads to fans wondering just what he's up to in his free time. He recently addressed his twitter absence to fans, and his reason is... [[LameExcuse he's busy playing LoL with his sister.]]
* WhatSongWasThisAgain: "Always Be Mine" lyrics are notably different from its original Korean counterpart "First Kiss". As is the case for their other translated songs.
* WholesomeCrossdresser: All members at least once (but probably more than once).
** [[ButtMonkey Jaejin and Seunghyun]] are the ones subject to this the most. See their Hangul Live episodes.
*** Lampshaded by Jaejin in their BoysBeforeFlowers parody where he walks into F4's room and [[BreakingTheFourthWall wonders which guy he is]]... then he realizes he's in a girls uniform and cries (in English), "Geum Jandi? Tell me why!"
*** [[RunningGag Actress/dancer Seungsoon]] appeared at least twice in Idol Maknae Rebellion. [[http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jc04ZWXiy3M/S1WcBqxahcI/AAAAAAAAANg/xZ80f_wH5g4/s400/tumblr_kuz5ivPVmo1qa2fcvo1_500.jpg Here]] is one of her appearances with other fellow girls.[[note]]Seunghyun, UKiss' Dongho, T-Max's Yunhwa and 2AM's Jinwoon.[[/note]]
*** Even a ''predebut'' photo of Seunghyun has him crossdressing.
** In their first concert in Thailand, Hongki rapped with a girl for his solo. Said girl [[TheReveal turned out]] to be Jonghun lipsyncing and in drag.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: Jonghun in their early days, not so much now. Other members even mistook him for their stylist when they first met him.
