[[caption-width-right:200:[[OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent Manabu]] and [[JapaneseDelinquents Reina]]. Actually, you could call them [[FlunkPunkRumble Megane-kun and Yankee-chan]], if not for copyright issues.]]
Tanaka Manabu is a regular honors student. On the way to school, he meets a girl carrying a bloody bat. That girl is Ryuuzaki Reina, leader of the school's female delinquents. It's love at first sight. ''Yandere Kanojo'' is a gag manga (with a combination of {{yonkoma}} and normal page) about having a yankee dere-dere girlfriend.

A drama CD came out in Japan in 2010.

NOTE: In the title of this series, "yandere" refers not to [[{{Yandere}} this term]], but to the "[[JapaneseDelinquents yankee]]"+ "dere-dere" combination. In this sense, 'yankee' means troublemaker, ''not'' an American.

Not to be confused with Manga/{{Onidere}}, which has a strikingly similar concept, but is only similar to this series in that regard.
----
!!Tropes in Yandere Kanojo
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: Reina's parents in their flashback chapters, and Hijiri and Shiratori in chapter 27.
** Sumika and Nanami in ''their'' flashback chapters, and Shiratori solo in chapter 34. A-ko in chapter 37 and Hiromichi (the cafe manager) in chapter 39. Manabu's parents in chapters 61-63.
** Even Nanami's minions get one in 40.1.
* AbhorrentAdmirer: Ugajin to Reina. [[TheStoic Manabu]] is just as put off by it as her.
* AbsurdlyYouthfulMother: There are at least two in this story: Ran, Reina's mother, and Azami, [[spoiler: Manabu's mother.]] [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] for [[spoiler:Azami]], she had her child when she was still in highschool.
* AllAmazonsWantHercules[=/=]SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Played straight ''both at the same time'' with Ran and Kouichiro.
** Well, Ran ''thinks'' she wants Hercules, and [[FaceOfAThug that Kouichiro fits the bill]], but it's [[SubvertedTrope subverted]] when he turns out to be a wimp, and she's head over heels in love with him anyway.
* AllGaysArePromiscuous: Shuuei Mori. In his introductory chapter, the first thing he says to every guy he meets is "Hey, wanna go to a hotel later?".
** [[{{Wimpification}} Then he meets Azuma and, well....]]
* AlliterativeFamily: The Shiratori siblings: Tsubame, Tsubasa, and Tsugumi.
* AmazonChaser: Manabu met Reina when she was carrying a bloody bat.
* AprilFoolsPlot: The subject of chapter 27.1.
* AtArmsLength: Reina does this to Nanami the first time they fight.
* AuthorAppeal: The author likes characters that look tough, but aren't, and who have '[[FaceOfAThug evil eyes]]' - hence Reina's dad. Similarly, because he likes old guys, he included Manabu's grandad.
* BadassGrandpa: Grandpa Tanaka. At least until a decade ago, as of 42.5.
** WarriorTherapist: He can make a DomesticAbuser shed TearsOfRemorse through GoodOldFisticuffs.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Reina really should, especially when a certain clown might be listening.
* BeachEpisode: Chapter 17.1.
* BearsAreBadNews: Subverted in one chapter. Manabu is worried about encountering bears when he and Reina are in the mountains looking for a Sakura tree. Reina reassures him and says she'd gladly kill and ''eat'' any bears threatening them. A bear overhears them and is absolutely terrified.
** [[InvertedTrope Bears think]] [[{{Badass}} Reina]] is bad news.
** Except when the bears are Grizzlies (chapter 28.1), then this trope is played straight... until Reina sacks it [[AttackItsWeakPoint in the knee]], then the bear relents and [[DefeatMeansFriendship shows her some respect]].
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Akira's a variant on this, being a 'sporty' Bifauxnen rather than an 'elegant' one. She's also quite happy to wear female school uniform.
* BigBraToFill: [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/7619/yandere-kanojo_ch18.5_by_vexed-scans/10 Lampshaded.]]
* BigBrotherInstinct: [[spoiler:Reina's uncle's dog feels this way toward Reina; that's why he dislikes Manabu, because he feels that Manabu isn't strong enough for Reina.]]
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:Manabu saves Chibita and Reina from attacking cats using dried bonito as a diversion.]]
* BigFriendlyDog: [[IronicName Chibita]], Reina's uncle's dog. [[spoiler:Except around Manabu.]]
* BishieSparkle: Shiratori, in his initial appearance.
* BittersweetEnding: Nanami and Sumika's flashback. Sweet, in the fact that [[spoiler: Sumika becomes friends for real with Nanami and Nanami's dad returns and reconciles with his family]], bitter in the fact that [[spoiler: his new job means that Nanami has to move far away from Sumika.]]
* BlahBlahBlah: How Reina summarizes the need for Manabu's grandfather to help them teach Akira to feel more girly.
** Becomes an actual form of communication [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/7635/yandere-kanojo_ch26.5_by_vexed-scans/11 here]].
-->'''Hijiri:''' '''''Please go back to using normal words!'''''
* BlandNameProduct: Reina's dad buys a [[PlaystationPortable "Play Halaytion Portable"]] along with a certain game [[VideoGame/MonsterHunter about partying up with others to hunt monsters]] that's extremely popular in Japan.
* TheBlindLeadingTheBlind: Akira, a crossdressing tomboy, asking Reina to teach her how to be more feminine.
--> '''Reina:''' [[LampshadeHanging You should really find a better person than me for that.]]
* BreakingTheFourthWall: All over the place.
** The Valentine's Day special is filled with this.
*** The chapter opens with Hijiri, Mayami and Reina in a {{Fanservice}} shot. The next page shows them "backstage" fixing their hair.
*** Reina asks why they're in these clothes and after being told it's for Valentine's Day, she questions if that's okay because the chapter is being printed in the July issue.
*** Hijiri remembers how Manabu got only one panel in the issue that was in color, and questions if that's really fair to the main character of the manga.
*** Mayami snarks that the mangaka's lack of seasonal awareness is going to get the characters caught up in a situation when they're NotAllowedToGrowUp.
** "What is with that expression that looks like it's saying 'What a pain in the ass' in bold face Ming type font?!"
** Reina casually explaining to the readers about the FamilyFriendlyFirearms, complete with Manabu lampshading it.
--->'''Manabu:''' You look really distant...
** The whole conversation between Reina and Mayami about the Tanakas' family situation. They even say they're BreakingTheFourthWall to avoid MoodWhiplash.
** Reina questions why Sumika gets two panels for her introduction at the beach.
** Reina yells at the school doctor to shut up and act like "a little side character".
** "He'd never draw us in swimming caps anyway."
** "Wait, I've hardly had any screentime thanks to your ass!!!"
** In chapter 35.1:
--->'''Reina:''' Ahh! You're right!! I forgot about that part of the plot!!!\\
'''Manabu:''' [[LampshadeHanging Reina, the fourth wall!!]]
** The omake for 12.1 has Reina and Mayami discussing why Manabu got momentarily bishified.
* CatsAreMean: To be fair, it's Chibita who strikes first...
* [[TheDogBitesBack The Cats Strike Back]]: [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/89800/yandere-kanojo_ch37.5_by_vexed-scans/10 Chibita tries to scare a cat stealing a fish. The retaliation is swift.]]
* CerebusSyndrome: What started out as a goofy gag yonkoma has been getting steadily more serious since the introduction of Manabu's family situation.
* CooldownHug: Kouichirou to Ran in [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/85876/yandere-kanojo_ch37_by_vexed-scans/16 Ch 37]]
* CosmeticCatastrophe: Reina starts out well when learning how to use makeup, getting Mayami to help her, but when she tries to go solo, it descends into this.
* CurbStompBattle:
** The Kendo Club shows up to defend the school from a possessed Reina, which ends exactly how you'd expect it to. Then the Judo Club shows up only to suffer the same fate.
** A-ko was trying to fight Ran for Kouichiro's love. She never stood a chance.
* DarkIsNotEvil: While the principal has a way of turning bad kids into good kids that can only be described as brainwashing and he isn't afraid to beat the crap out of his students (including girls) to enforce rules, he doesn't seem to be all that evil and is genuinely nice to those who follow the rules.
* DatePeepers: After telling Mayami she can't come with them when they go to see {{Film/Avatar}}, Reina and Manabu end up spending most of their date following Mayami after they see her seeing the same movie with some guy they don't know, to make sure he's not a creep.
* DeathByChildbirth: Azuma's wife.
* DemonicPossession: "The Cursed Black Bat". Manabu manages to stop it with ThePowerOfLove.
* DeusExitMachina: In "The Cursed Black Bat" (26.1), Manabu and the Principal are conveniently absent when trouble starts, though Manabu returns to save the day.
-->'''Hijiri:''' '''''Why now of all times!'''''
* DoctorJerk: The school doctor. And he ''knows'' it.
* DreadfulMusician: Kuroko. She can't move on to the next world till someone recognizes the music she's playing, but she plays so badly it's impossible. [[spoiler:She apparently remembers what it was at the end of her introductory story, but sticks around.]]
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: While not exactly evil, there's no doubt that Ugajin is more deliberately malicious in his actions than any other recurring antagonist in the series. However, he does care for his groupies, and his response to Manabu's hypothetical question in Chapter 56 ([[spoiler:which the latter used as a way to get advice on how to handle his family's situation]]) nets him a minor moment of awesome.
** Akira is this, albeit in a [[{{Bifauxnen}} different way]] than Reina.
* EveryGirlIsCuterWithHairDecs:
** Gender-flipped: Shiratori has a hair clip in the front of his hair for no particular reason.
** Parodied with the character of Tsukihitsugi, introduced in [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/7633/yandere-kanojo_ch25.5_by_vexed-scans/2 Chapter 25.1]], who looks like she fell into a pile of hair decs.
* FaceOfAThug: Reina's dad utterly terrifies most people around him because he looks like a gangster, acts gruff and makes sudden, very violent-seeming movements most of the time. The gag is that he's only terrifying because he's actually ''absolutely terrified'' of social situations.
** The school principal, however, ''is'' as terrifying as he looks.
* FamilyFriendlyFirearms / NerfArm: The weapons shops sells weapons that look and feel like real weapons, but do no serious or permanent damage. They are only to be used for comedic effect.
* FictionalCounterpart: Mouseland -> {{Disneyland}}.
* ForHalloweenIAmGoingAsMyself: Kuroko loves Halloween because she can go out and trick-or-treat as a BedsheetGhost.
* FracturedFairyTale: The Cinderella chapter, with Reina as Cinderella, Manabu as the wizard who helps her, Shiratori as the prince, and Nanami's gang as the stepsisters.
* FragileFlower: [[spoiler:The Principal's wife.]]
** [[spoiler:[[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/7618/yandere-kanojo_ch18_by_vexed-scans/5 Reina]] also had her moments as well.]]
* GRatedDrug: Amazake in chapter 31.1. Normally it's either non-alcoholic or has a low amount of alcohol. Reina, under the impression it's safe regardless, puts in too much sake lees, making it a strong booze, and [[MushroomSamba everyone has a crazy moment as a result]].
* GenreRefugee: A lot of characters seem to have got lost from [[ShoujoGenre contemporary girly romance manga]]. [[HilarityEnsues Not that it's a bad thing]].
* GhostShipping: Of the unrequited variety, considering that the object of Kuroko's affections can't even ''see'' her.
* GirlishPigtails: Mayami and Hijiri both sport these. Tsukihitsugi does too, in 'civvies'; it looks like she also has them in her exorcist outfit, but the hair decs make it hard to tell.
* GoldenSnitch: Mayami pulls this as hostess of a gameshow. Reina, as one of the contestants, is not happy.
** Leads straight to [[spoiler: a CrackDefeat when two guys in the background who admit they're so unimportant they don't even have names, and have not answered a single question right, win. The question? What is the name of the author of [[BreakingTheFourthWall Yandere Kanojo]]?]]
* GoodAngelBadAngel: Reina met them in the chapter where she tried to find out the reason Manabu wears glasses without need.
* GreenEyedMonster: After Shiratori calls Manabu's sister "[[FirstNameBasis Mayami-kun]]," Hijiri goes into a minor HeroicBSOD that's serious enough for her to request that Reina punch her to snap her out of it. Mayami is sharp enough to notice it and assures her that she has no interest in Shiratori while teasing Hijiri about her jealousy.
* GuileHero: [[spoiler:The Principal in chapter 39.1. [[ItMakesSenseInContext "All female students should wear spats,"]] indeed.]]
* HappilyMarried / SickeninglySweethearts: Reina's parents. [[spoiler:Later, we find out that The Principal and his wife are also like this, though they are more subdued.]]
* HetIsEw: According to Shuuei Mori.
* HiddenDepths: A lot of seemingly {{Jerkass}} characters are actually decent people when the situation calls for it.
** Even characters like [[UnknownRival Nanami]], Sumika and [[TheHunter Tsukihitsugi]] have these moments.
* HotForTeacher: A-ko falls for Kouichiro after he helps her, and tries to convince him to leave his wife for her. [[ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend Three guesses]] [[{{Yandere}} as to how well]] [[CurbStompBattle that works out]].
** Tsukihitsugi develops a crush on the principal in later chapters, and she's [[HeroicBSOD less than happy]] when she finds out about his [[spoiler:(supposed)]] daughter, and [[SerialEscalation much less happy]] when she finds out that said "daughter" [[spoiler:is his ''wife'']].
* HypocriticalHumor:
** When Reina saw one of her subordinates crying because she saw her boyfriend with another girl, she just told her to go kick their asses. When she sees [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/7600/yandere-kanojo_ch3.5_by_vexed-scans Manabu with another girl...]]
** [[spoiler: Mamoru's final advice to Manabu is to be sure to take care of the woman he loves or he'll be left with nothing except regrets. Seeing as Mamoru's neglect of doing so with his own woman led to his family's life being an absolute hell, his son is understandably not pleased.]]
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: PlayedForLaughs in chapter 29. Ran (Reina's mother) suspects that her husband Kouichirou's odd behavior means he's having an affair (it turns out he's actually hanging out with Manabu's grandfather). The following exchange occurs:
--> '''Reina:''' '''''What was that? Dad is cheating on you!?'''''\\
'''Ran:''' He's not cheating on me!! He fell in love with another woman besides me!!\\
'''Reina:''' Uhh, that's what you would call cheating, isn't it?\\
'''Ran:''' Kouichirou has the right to love whoever he wants, so I'm not going to call it something as bad as cheating!\\
'''Manabu:''' [[LampshadeHanging Whoa, that reasoning of yours is oozing with love...]]
* InWhichATropeIsDescribed: A common format for chapter titles runs "X, that is, something something something."
* IncestSubtext: In an early chapter, Reina mistakes Manabu and Mayami for being NotBloodSiblings, which Mayami lampshades as sounding like something out of an eroge. In later chapters, it's at least strongly implied that this may be the case for Manabu and [[spoiler:Kuroko]], which turns out to sort of be the case: [[spoiler:she's his aunt by marriage]].
* IncrediblyLamePun: The series title.
** Elizadeath.
** Wakako seems to have the name she does just so the author could pun her name into Bakako in the title of the chapter she features in.
* ItAmusedMe: ''Hijiri'', of all people, at one point goes out of her way to antagonize Shiratori for no reason other than it being hilarious.
* [[SkirtOverSlacks Kimono Over Boxers]]: [[AllMenArePerverts A crowd of male onlookers]] collectively drops to their knees in grief after Reina denies them a PantyShot, or something even better, this way while celebrating a badminton victory a little too enthusiastically.
* LockedInARoom: Hijiri and Shiratori get locked in a storage closet. [[GenreSavvy They're quickly rescued, though, since Hijiri told a teacher she'd be working in the closet with the faulty lock.]]
* LoveEpiphany: [[spoiler:Hijiri in chapter 42.]]
* MayDecemberRomance: Mayami and the Manager have plenty of significant ShipTease moments with each other. Being a first year, she's around fourteen-fifteen; Chapter 25 reveals that he's twenty-six.
* MeaningfulName: The StringyHairedGhostGirl has no actual name, so she gets nicknamed "Kuroko" for her black hair (''kuro'' means black and -''ko'' is a feminine suffix). [[spoiler:[[SubvertedTrope Chapter 41 implies that her real name is Misaki,]] [[OutOfBodyExperience and she's actually still alive, only unconscious.]]]]
* {{Meganekko}}: Tsukihitsugi is this in 'civvies' (she normally wears colored contacts, but the school bans them).
* MrExposition: [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] in chapter 5.1. When Shiratori gives a description of the girls and guys having separate swimming times, two background characters [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall comment on his doing so.]]
---> '''Background Character A:''' Oh, what a detailed description
--->'''Background Character B:''' Shiratori is always yelling in a big panel, isn't he?
* MythologyGag: Seen under {{Yandere}} for WhatCouldHaveBeen with Manabu's lil sis? Behold, [[ClingyJealousGirl Tsugumi]] [[BigBrotherAttraction Shiratori]], [[ItMakesSenseInContext Reina's pen pal over a misplaced letter.]]
* NeighborhoodFriendlyGangsters
* NiceCharacterMeanActor / MoodSwinger: [[spoiler:Reina's uncle, Souijiro/Soji.]]
* OddFriendship: Manabu's grandfather and Reina's dad have become friends and keep in touch regularly, despite being total opposites in terms of outgoingness.
** Most of the friendships are of this trope (Reina/Hijiri, Reina/Mayami, Manabu/Shiratori, Sumika/Nanami).
* OfficialCouple: Manabu and Reina's relationship is pretty much the entire point of the manga.
* OlderThanSheLooks: [[spoiler: The Principal's ''wife'', she was so [[{{Moe}} young looking]] and {{adorkable}} that most male students fell for her. Of course, it helps that they ''didn't'' realize she was the Principal's wife.]]
* OneNoteCook: Reina and curry. With a lot of help she made cookies one time.
* OpenSecret: By about four chapters in most students realize they're a couple; they're just smart enough not to say anything.
* {{Otaku}}: The Manager. He does know when to turn his enthusiasm off, if necessary.
* PaintingTheMedium: Mayami uses square speech bubbles to imitate narration bubbles and the others acknowledge that because of this they have to follow what she said.
* PaperFanOfDoom: Manabu buys one of these when Reina takes him to a weapons shop.
* ParentalAbandonment: [[spoiler: Manabu.]]
** Reina's grandparents disowned Ran.
* ThePiratesWhoDontDoAnything: Reina's delinquent gang. They're in school every day, don't drink, smoke, or do drugs, and the only gang fight seen in the comics takes place with a felt-tip pen. Naturally enough, this gets lampshaded.
** RuleAbidingRebel: In chapter 42,
** Then Reina goes and lays a full-on smackdown in 27.1.
* PitbullDatesPuppy: Our OfficialCouple, [[GenerationXerox as well as Reina's parents]]. Later, it's revealed that this is the case with the principal and his wife as well, albeit gender-flipped.
* PokeThePoodle: Subverted with Daikichi Ugajin. While his abuse of his Student Council power is just so he can do things, such as flipping up girls' skirts without the fear of retribution and taking all the male students' porn to make a porn room for public access, they're treated as very serious threats by Reina and her friends.
* {{Polyamory}}: Ugajin's groupies seem to have no problem with sharing him, or the fact that he's pursuing Reina.
* PostKissCatatonia: As mentioned under ShipTease below, a kiss on the ''cheek'' from [=Drunk!Hijiri=] was enough to cause this in Shiratori.
* PurelyAestheticGlasses: Manabu's glasses are just for show.
** A whole chapter is actually devoted to exploring the mystery of Manabu's glasses. Long story short, [[spoiler:they're basically a MementoMacGuffin from his grandfather.]]
* RecursiveCanon: The manga and author exist in the manga's universe. None of the main characters know them.
* RefugeInAudacity: What does Reina do, when after she demands to talk with Manabu's mom while brandishing a baseball bat, his uncle threatens to [[MundaneSolution call the cops on her]]? Why, kidnap their father, Azuma, and threaten to bash his head in with [[WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer a baseball bat]] if they refuse! [[spoiler: The kidnapping itself is most likely staged, considering [[NiceGuy Azusa]] and [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Reina]]'s characters. That doesn't stop her from hitting Grandpa with a bat when Manabu's uncle tries to call her bluff.]]
* RelationshipUpgrade: In a roundabout way, chapter 27 has Hijiri and Shiratori acknowledging each other's mutual attraction and going out on a date. Due to their inexperience with such things, though, they don't actually think it was a date or that it makes them a couple.
** Chapter 46 sees [[spoiler:Hijiri]] finally confessing her love. On national television, no less. [[spoiler: In chapter 48, they finally become an OfficialCouple.]]
* TheResenter: Aoi hated Azami growing up simply because she got more praise from other people despite him being the older sibling. Keep in mind that Azami was an absolute saint when they grew up together.
* RetiredBadass: Reina's mom. "Don't worry, if anyone were to badmouth you, I'd show them what it was like when your mom was feared as a human weapon!"
** The flashback chapters to how she and Reina's dad fell in love somehow make her out to be even more violent, feared, and hot-tempered than Reina. There's implications she may have even ''killed'' people.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: Our OfficialCouple, of course. Exaggerated or deconstructed for parody in the case of Reina's parents, with each one being on the other end of the spectrum.
** Interesting case with [[spoiler:Shiratori and Hijiri.]] The problem is that [[spoiler: Shiratori is [[SeriousBusiness too]] [[WrongGenreSavvy savvy]] [[CannotSpitItOut for his]] [[HeroicSelfDeprecation own good,]] to the point that Hijiri had to take a more active role in the relationship, despite her NiceGirl status.]]
* SecretRelationship: At least initially (see {{Tsundere}} further down), but as the series goes on it becomes more of an OpenSecret, if even that, especially with Manabu and Reina not bothering to hide it in front of any named characters, who all know about it.
* SeriousBusiness: [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/7597/yandere-kanojo_ch2_by_c-k/7 Bloomers.]]
** Shiratori always takes ''everything'' with such high fervor. Sometimes it's [[{{Adorkable}} endearing,]] sometimes it's [[TheComicallySerious funny,]] sometimes [[TheResenter it's]] [[HeroicSelfDeprecation sad.]]
* SexySantaDress: Reina's employer outfits his female employees with this at Christmas.
** [[spoiler:Hijiri was shoved into a makeover show in Chapters 45-46.]]
* ShipTease: Hijiri and Shiratori, [[HeartwarmingMoment sometimes Awwsome]], [[PlayedForLaughs sometimes humorous]]. [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/7631/yandere-kanojo_ch24.5_by_vexed-scans/8 This example manages to be both]].
** Chapter 18 has Hijiri refuse confession from another guy after Shiratori says "Don't do it." [[ItMakesSenseInContext He's talking about a reference book Hijiri used.]]
** Chapter 27 is focused entirely on their RelationshipUpgrade. Not into a full couple, but pretty damn close.
** Taken even further in Chapter 31, an entire chapter that kicks off with Hijiri admitting that she likes Shiratori. We'll see if this leads anywhere.
** Topped by 4Koma chapter 31.1, where [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/26268/yandere-kanojo_ch31.5_by_vexed-scans/12 Drunk!Hijiri made dirty jokes and kissed him on the cheek]], [[LaserGuidedAmnesia but doesn't remember anything when she's sober]].
** This culminates in Chapter 46, when she [[spoiler:confesses her love on national television]], flooring everyone.
** Mayami and the Manager; their exact relationship is ambiguous, but it does have romantic overtones sometimes, such as the fact that they establish the cafe together. The most significant ShipTease of them so far is Chapter 39, a Manager-centric chapter. The title page has the statement "give flowers to your loved one" and features a smiling Mayami getting a bouquet.
** In Chapter 45, Mayami kept her hair long for the sake of the Manager. Then in 45.1 she's very much conflicted between keeping her GenkiGirl (for the Manager) or YamatoNadeshiko (for her Grandpa) persona, and the Manager decides to go along with the latter. When the Manager asks if he's the grandad [[FatherIWantToMarryMyBrother Mayami had a crush on when she was little]], Mayami looks away while blushing and says there's someone else she likes.
* ShootTheHostage: A ShowWithinAShow has the magical girl heroine [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/7619/yandere-kanojo_ch18.5_by_vexed-scans/12 kill hostages just to get to the villain]]. She even has a specific hostage-killer attack.
* ShoutOut: See [[ShoutOut/YandereKanojo here]].
* ShowWithinAShow: "Princess Mamii", a MagicalGirlWarrior anime.
* ShrinkingViolet: Rare male example, Reina's dad. He got it worse than ''[[KatawaShoujo Hanako]]''!
** Also deconstructed, since his withdrawnness makes him unapproachable by his students, so he's mistaken for a [[PsychologistTeacher Psychologist]] SadistTeacher. [[NiceGuy (He's anything but that.)]]
* SitcomArchNemesis: Kuroko is one to Tsukihitsugi, much to the latter's annoyance.
* SmarterThanYouLook: Mayami and Manager. [[PairTheSmartOnes No wonder]] [[BirdsOfAFeather they got some]] ShipTease.
* SmokingIsCool: Manabu's grandfather smokes, and is as cool as they come.
* SpoofAesop: Beaten into the ground.
* SternTeacher: The Principal. Borderline SadistTeacher if not for the fact that he treats students who follow rules, including "redeemed" delinquents, with utmost respect.
** In chapter 36.1, it is shown that he's quite a ReasonableAuthorityFigure, forgiving Tsukihitsugi for breaking his vase (which is a present from his students) since she apologizes and the vase is fixed (though he still hits Reina for taking supplies from his desk without permission). And from his story, it seems that he also likes to help students who have constructive hobbies.
** He also averts the expected AdultsAreUseless trope in chapter 39.1, where [[spoiler: he sees through Daikichi Ugajin's plan to see the panties of the female students, and [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome neutralizes it by exploiting a loophole, outwitting the normally cool and calculating Ugajin.]]]]
* TheStoolPigeon: Kuroko's "job" at the school, as revealed in chapter 41.
---> '''Kuroko:''' He [the principal] gives me 10-100 yen each time I tell him about a student who was late, skipped class, cheated on a test, ate lunch in class, or broke any of the other school rules.
* StringyHairedGhostGirl: Kuroko's a comical version.
* SupportingHarem: Daikichi Ugajin's groupies are this in a literal sense.
* ThatCameOutWrong: Reina and Hijiri, while discussing Hijiri's crush (or, rather, lack thereof) in home ec:
-->'''Hijiri:''' "I must say, you look really cute when you're working hard...in fact, I'd say I'd rather love Reina than some guy. *beat* O-OF COURSE I DIDN'T MEAN IT IN A WEIRD WAY! I MEANT AS FRIENDS!"
* ThemeNaming: Reina's flunkies are named Eiko & Biko ("Girl A" and "Girl B"), fitting their largely unimportant to the plot status.
* ToughLove: The Principal is a firm believer of this, especially toward delinquents. Not that he's totally unreasonable, mind you.
* {{Transsexual}}: When several of the students find an old yearbook photo of Sally, the school's janitor, they see her as a male-bodied student in a boy's uniform. Sally laughs it off and says that back then she "hadn't blossomed as a woman yet".
* {{Tsundere}}: Oddly enough, this applies to Reina. She quickly gets shy and tsuntsun with her boyfriend, but wants to hide the whole relationship to preserve her reputation.
** Reina's mother as well; that's where she gets it from.
** Shiratori seems to be platonically tsundere for Manabu, wanting to be his friend instead of significant other.
** Nanami gets a platonically tsundere moment over Reina in 27.1.
** After Manabu saves Reina and Chibita from cats, Reina worries about his injuries. Manabu says [[OldSchoolChivalry it's better than getting a lady's face injured.]] Reina's response to that is... interesting.
---> '''Reina''': Geeeez, you idiot! Moron!!! You're so smug! Trying to act like some cool knight! [[KnightInShiningArmor You prince on a white horse!!]] [[FreudianSlip You glasses-wearing stud!!!]]
* TwoLinesNoWaiting: Is actually two different titles; a web published one (the 4-koma) and a print one (the conventional one). Since most scanlation sites just put the story up in order, it leads to the two-part stories being cut off in between.
* TyrantTakesTheHelm: Daikichi Ugajin and his groupies in Chapter 38.1.
* UglyGuyHotWife: Reina's parents. Justified; having the FaceOfAThug is what attracted her to him in the first place.
* TheUnsmile: In chapter 22 Hijiri's face freezes into a smile when she becomes jealous about Shiratori calling Mayami by her [[FirstNameBasis first name]].
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Daikichi Ugajin, much to the dismay of Reina and [[TranquilFury Manabu]].
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Reina. She's pretty protective of her friends generally, but god help you if you mess with Manabu. [[TheStoic Even if Manabu himself doesn't care.]]
** Like many of Reina's traits, it comes from her mother. In one story, Ran ''crucifies'' a solicitor for wasting Kouichirou's time while they're on a date, while in another, she threatens his entire class if they cause him trouble.
* WeWantOurJerkBack: Chapter 47.1 in a nutshell.
* WhamEpisode: Chapter 65 drops a huge one, when Manabu learns that [[spoiler: his father really did love his mother; he only left her to take care of his sister after her messy divorce since her leech of a husband nearly bankrupted his family.]]
* WhatDoesSheSeeInHim: Manabu's a relatively ordinary-looking guy. Reina seems to think he's on the male supermodel/"legendary man-whore" end of the spectrum.
** [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]], [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/7618/yandere-kanojo_ch18_by_vexed-scans/7 of course.]]
* [[WhenSheSmiles When He Smiles]]: Reina's dad smiled once, and everyone was [[http://www.batoto.net/read/_/7616/yandere-kanojo_ch17_by_vexed-scans/11 surprised.]]
** During the high school days of Reina's parents, Ran (Reina's mom) fainted after Kouichirou (Reina's dad) smiled at her. The effect of the smile was so profound it made her deredere side the dominant one. Note that Ran was one of the most feared delinquents in her neighborhood during her time. [[LampshadeHanging "That line short-circuited her"]] indeed.
* WholeEpisodeFlashback: Reina's parents' first meeting, and Sumika and Nanami's first meeting, both get two chapters.
** Hiromichi's origin in chapter 39.
** The story of Manabu's parents takes up chapters 61-63.
** Chapter 55.1 is a flashback to Manabu's childhood.
* {{Yandere}}: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]], when you consider the title and Reina's personality. An omake reveals that [[WhatCouldHaveBeen Mayami was originally supposed to be a murderously jealous yandere little sister]] before the author decided otherwise.
** Ran, on the other hand, plays this trope straight in chapter 37.
* {{Yonkoma}}
* ZettaiRyouiki: Reina on one of her dates.
