->''"[[AccidentalInnuendo This hole...!]] [[MakesSenseInContext It was made for me!]]"''

A short horror manga by {{Junji Ito}}, located in the back of the second volume of his fish-zombie-apocalypse book ''Manga/{{Gyo}}''. A boy named Owaki, and a girl, Yoshida, meet on Amigara Mountain, where an unsettling discovery has been made. Human shaped holes are scattered across the mountain, and it soon becomes clear that the holes are "calling" to the people they are shaped like. So what happens when they enter the hole? Well, you can be sure that massive amounts of {{claustrophobia}} and NightmareFuel are involved. Can be read [[http://brasscockroach.com/h4ll0w33n2007/manga/Amigara-Full/Amigara.html here]].

Should it seriously disturb you, counter with liberal application of [[http://chainsawsuit.com/2009/12/23/amigara-fault/ this comic,]] or [[http://images.encyclopediadramatica.es/d/d0/Hole2.jpg this one,]] or [[http://local-static3.forum-files.fobby.net/forum_attachments/0027/9798/55893772.png this one,]] or [[http://lupinewarlord.deviantart.com/art/Amigara-meets-Aperture-Science-67463956 this one.]], or possibly even [[http://www.gunshowcomic.com/459 this one]], or [[http://i2.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/001/480/AmigaraDDR.jpg this one]]. !!This manga provides examples of:

* AndIMustScream: The holes are somehow shaped so that you can only move forward[[note]]Don't think too hard about the logic here. AWizardDidIt, move along...[[/note]].
* BodyHorror: There are better ways to go on a diet.
* CatapultNightmare: Provides the trope page image.
* {{Claustrophobia}}: You ''will'' have it by the end of the story.
* DaylightHorror: Most of the creepy stuff happens at daytime.
* [[spoiler: DreamingOfTimesGoneBy]]: [[spoiler: Everyone who has a hole carved for them.]]
* EldritchLocation: There is something seriously wrong with the fault and the holes running straight through it.
* FanDisservice: People usually undress in order to fit into the holes, and [[{{Gonk}} not all of these people are attractive]]. Owaki [[ShirtlessScene stripping to his underwear]] (or less, considering the fact that we only see him from the waist-up) would be fanservice if not for [[spoiler:what will eventually happen to him]].
* FateWorseThanDeath: In Owaki's dream, he is a man from a primitive tribe condemned to a hole for an unforgivable crime.
* [[spoiler:NoodlePeople: Literally - when people enter "their" hole, they are stretched in every direction until their limbs are thin like tentacles, yet are ''still alive''.]]
* OhCrap: The ending.
* PrimalFear: This manages to hit isolation, darkness, the unknown, claustrophobia, and body horror all in one fell swoop.
* SchmuckBait: A prime in-universe example.
* ShownTheirWork: As per [[spoiler:the dream]], there ''were'' [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_Paleolithic people in Japan]] as early as 50,000 BC. [[spoiler:They also developed stone-carving technology remarkably early.]]
* TokenRomance: It was ''really'' unnecessary for Owaki and Yoshida to [[KissingDiscretionShot get together]]. It happened so that we'd get a giant HopeSpot, before things get worse.
* WrittenSoundEffect: The first guy's sounds (in the Japanese version) are ズズ and ズポツ, and the protagonist's is ズズズ. The first two are rendered "S'''S'''LL" and "'''S'''LIP", but the last is the famous, "DRR... '''DRR'''... '''''DRR'''''". Which, apart from being a nonexistent Japanese phoneme (it could be "ZU... SU... ZU"), this transliteration is so obtuse that people are apparently under the impression that this is the sound of [[spoiler:the disfigured peoples' groans]] rather than [[spoiler:the sound of them sliding through the tunnels]]. These are squicky sounds, people!
