''Soul Eater Not'' is a manga from Atsushi Okubo, the same {{mangaka}} who did the original ''Manga/SoulEater'', and is set in the same universe. In fact its something of a prequel to the main series, though focuses on different characters. It has been picked up for an english release by YenPress.

14-year-old Tsugumi Harudori is a new student entering Death Weapon Meister Academy. She is a Weapon, but is unable to transform just yet. But, after encouragement from Maka, Tsugumi attempts to face her first year in [=DWMA=] with high hopes.

!!Tropes:

* AcademyOfAdventure
* AllThereInTheManual: This actually is the manual for Soul Eater as we learn far more about how life goes for regular students such as dorm rules, money management, why some kids wear uniforms and others don't, and several other things that help to flesh out the world of the original Soul Eater.
* AxCrazy: Misery, the dorm manager.
* {{Bishounen}}: Akane and Clay.
* BladeOnAStick: Tsugumi
* BlandNameProduct: Maka leaves Tsugumi a can of what appears to be "Dr. Pepper" of all things on the top step.
* [[BlondBrunetteRedhead Blond Brunette Light-Brunette]]: Anya, Tsugumi, and Meme.
* TheCameo: Several of the main cast of Manga/SoulEater show up this way, given that it's a {{spinoff}} / {{prequel}} type thing of the series. For instance, Kilik can be seen on a poster [[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/soul_eater_not/c001/16.html here]].
* BigBad: Shaula Gorgon
* CoolBigSis: Despite being the same age, Maka arguably seems to be some form of this for Tsugumi. Also, Eternal Feather-sempai.
* CoolSword: ''SUBVERTED TO HOLY HELL'' with their first opponent.
** Played straight with Clay.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Meme is shaping into one, changing her hair tie from where it formerly was and casually forgetting her name when greeting Tsugumi. Incredibly, she's a weapon user.
* CrashIntoHello: Meme and Tsugumi's first meeting combines this with FunbagAirbag.
* CreepyCoolCrosses: Anya's outfit features these.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Meme can fight people... ''in her sleep''.
* CurbStompBattle: Anya and Tsugumi versus the big guy and the guy who can't change his head only takes three panels.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Tsugumi and Meme.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Anya, who [[TheRunaway fled from a posh religious(?) school]] in order to meet "common people". Of course, it's beneath her to actually admit it.
* TheDitz: Meme.
* MrFanservice: Akane.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Anya in that waitress outfit.
** Tsugumi at all times.
* HairDecorations
* [[spoiler:ExoticEyeDesigns: Akane has Star pupils. Since he trained with the Star Clan.]]
* {{Expy}}: Misery of [[{{Misery}} Annie Wilkes]]. Though she shares the same name as the movie. See ShoutOut below.
* EyesAlwaysShut: Misery, the dorm manager.
* {{Fangirl}}:
** Tsugumi becomes a bit of one towards Maka after meeting her. She even styles her hair into GirlishPigtails.
** Anya is a fangirl for anything "commoner"-related, indicated from her excited reaction to a regular market versus her disappointed reaction to the wealthy-looking Shibusen girls' dorm.
** {{Misery}}-san, head of the girls' dorm, is a fan of a certain book series and adores Tsugumi because she looks like the main character. When she discovers Tsugumi doesn't act like the character she decides to fix it [[ShoutOut with a hammer]].
* FishOutOfWater. Tsugumi. Also, Anya, who seems to come from a wealthy background and isn't used to "common people."
* FirstEpisodeSpoiler: [[spoiler: Tsugumi transforms into a Halberd, and is in a LoveTriangle between Meme and Anya.]]
* FortuneTeller: Kana Altair, who looks nothing like your [[EmotionlessGirl typical]] [[{{Moe}} fortune]] [[UnusualEars teller]].
* FunbagAirbag: This is how Tsugumi first meets Meme.
* ImagineSpot: Tsugumi claims she's surrounded by [[{{Bishounen}} pretty boys]] at the academy, but she snaps out of her thoughts once she sees Black☆Star punching a guy in the face.
* InLoveWithLove: According to Tsugumi, anyway.
* {{Irony}}: Sid hits Maka with a book: "Sid Chop" in chapter 4 and then she returns the favor latter in the original manga.
* JerkAssFacade: [[spoiler: Kim Dhiel]], but we already knew that.
** Leans more to JerkWithAHeartOfGold.
* LadyOfWar: [[DefrostingIceQueen Anya]], in all probability.
* LighterAndSofter
* LittleMissSnarker: Kana snarks with tarot cards.
* LoveTriangle: Tsugumi had a desired ImagineSpot of being in a sort of "threesome" with two boys vying for her as their weapon, but it didn't quite go as planned, as Meme and Anya want Tsugumi to be ''their'' partner.
* {{Megane}}: Akane.
* {{Meganekko}}: The female [[SempaiKohai sempai]], [[UnfortunateNames Eternal Feather]] introduced in Chapter 2.
* MoodDissonance: Anya tends to look pleased while saying seemingly insulting things and annoyed while saying seemingly approving things due to her inability to be honest about what she likes.
* [[NiceHat Nice]] [[InTheHood Hood]]: Kana has cat ears on them.
* NotWhatItLooksLike: Anya wakes up one morning to find Meme in bed with Tsugumi, who is tied up with rope, all for totally non-sexual reasons. She of course assumes something kinky was going on.
* {{Ojou}}: Anya.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: It's specified that many DWMA students may choose (or unwillingly receive) a nickname that's treated as their actual name. One particularly unlucky student had Kim rapidly get everyone to call her "[[FailOSuckyname Eternal Feather]]."
* PeekABangs: Akane
* PowerTrio: Id - [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Meme]]; Ego - [[OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent Tsugumi]]; Superego - [[DefrostingIceQueen Anya]].
* {{Prequel}}: Given Sid isn't a zombie yet and Medusa is still a nurse.
** And Kim and Jacqueline haven't formed a team yet.
* SempaiKohai: Maka, Eternal Feather and others are sempais to Tsugumi, Meme and Anya.
* SeriousBusiness: Misery and her favorite novel.
* SchoolUniformsAreTheNewBlack: The Academy has as many school uniforms - female students can even choose between sweaters and sailor-style - and casual clothes are fine too.
* ShoutOut: Misery-san, looking like [[{{Misery}} Annie Wilkes]] and is a huge fan of a novel, similar to how Annie was. She was obviously named for the book/movie and designed to look like Annie. Of course, it's not surprise that Ohkubo is a Creator/StephenKing fan.
** Kana '''''Altair,''''' who wears a light-colored [[InTheHood hood and cape.]] [[Franchise/AssassinsCreed Hmm.]]
** Check out the bottom left of page 181 - Where's Wally? Oh, wait, there he is.
* ShroudedInMyth: "The Witch of the Dorm." Is it the psychotic housemistress Misery? The enigmatic and rude fortune teller Kana? It's actually the relatively normal [[spoiler: Kim Diehl, who saves Tsugumi from Misery and then demands her week's allowance as payment. 'Course, this is before we learn she's an actual witch...]]
** [[spoiler:Also Harudori saw a {{Tanuki}} statue and it immediately reminded her of Kim, who AnimalMotifs is said animal.]]
* {{Spinoff}}: Of ''Manga/SoulEater''.
* TheRunaway: Anya
* TitleDrop[=/=]FunWithAcronyms: 4 chapters in we find out "NOT" is the abbreviation for "[[GratuitousEnglish Normally Overcome Target]]", the name of the class taken by the majority of the students who aren't actively fighting.
* {{Tsundere}}: Anya appears to be a Type A towards Tsugumi.
* ZettaiRyouiki: Those waitress outfits.
