The manga adaption based on the popular RPG VideoGame/MonsterHunter.

Theme Naming Shiki The Hero Ryuuhou is a Forbidden Hunter who is in search of Miogaruna, the forbidden dragon of light, following the death of his master, The Obi Wan Gurelli, several years ago. He is accompanied on this journey by Tsundere Irie, Gurelli's experienced hunter of a daughter, and Sakuya, the daughter of a famous Equipment Technician. Not far behind is Rival Turned Evil Kuron, a powerful hunter who has his eyes set on Irie and decides to become a Forbidden Hunter in order to destroy Shiki for taking Irie away.

Mangaka: Hiro Mashima, who also wrote Manga/RaveMaster, Manga/MonsterSoul and Manga/FairyTail.

Has a Character Sheet.

!This manga provides examples of:

* ActionGirl: Irie and Sakuya.
* BlowYouAway: One reason Gurelli takes Shiki under his wing is because of his ablity to see wind patterns, which he observed when
* BrokenBird: Irie [[spoiler: A backstory reveals she initially was in a party before. But they had used her for their illegel dealings in weaponry, then had the gall to blame her when they were caught (as the police force had let her go due to being found she wasn't intentionally involved). What's more thanks to this incident, she was barred from getting a Hunter's License.]]
* BoyMeetsGirl: More like Boy Meets Girl Who Tells Boy To Get Off Of Her Seat.
* CallingYourAttacks
* CelibateHero: From the looks of it, Irie.
* ChasteHero: Shiki.
* CurbstompBattle: EVERY. SINGLE. BATTLE.
* Expy: Shiki looks like Gray, but acts like Natsu.
** Irie looks like a tomboyish Lucy, and Kuron looks like Seig Hart or an older Leon.
* FanService
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Shiki - color:maroon:sanguine, - color:orange:choleric, Sakuya - color:black:melancholic, Irie - color:green:phlegmatic.
* HopelessSuitor: Kuron for Irie.
* GirlishPigtails: Irie. The ribbons quite possibly double as nekomimi, at least, according to Shiki.
* IWorkAlone: Irie initially. See Broken Bird
* LoveTriangle: Kuron think he has this with Shiki and Irie. He couldn't be more wrong.
* MeaningfulName: Like all of Mashima's heroes who are named after a season, Shiki is no exception - his name means "four seasons."
* ParentalAbandonment: Shiki is an orphan, Irie lost her father, and Sakuya's father went missing and her mother died.
* ThePowerOfFriendship
* PowerTrio: Shiki (Id), Irie (Ego), and Sakuya (Superego).
* TheRival: Kuron sees Shiki as a love rival for Irie, though it is both a one-sided rivalry and a one-sided love.
* s}}. Though by the end of the series he seems to have loosened up and joined their party full time.
* ShipTease: Shiki/Irie, Kuron/Irie, Shiki/Sakuya... Even Kuron/Sakuya. Yeah, pretty much any time anybody gets screen time with someone else. It's probably because there is no OfficialCouple in the series.
* Shounen
* ShrinkingViolet: Sakuya.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Kuron or Kowloon?
* SequelHook: At the end they are seen going off on a quest with new armor and their weapons upgraded.
* TrueCompanions
* Tsundere: Irie.
