''Alice 19th'' is a {{Shoujo}} manga written by Creator/YuuWatase, author of ''Manga/CeresCelestialLegend'' and ''Manga/FushigiYuugi''. It's licensed by Creator/VizMedia.

Alice Seno is a shy girl, afraid to speak her mind. Her older sister, Mayura, seems to outshine her in everything. Everything changes when Alice saves a magical rabbit girl, Nyozeka, from being hit by a car. Nyozeka has been waiting for her to carry and use the Lotis Words, magical words that possess great powers.

However, with great power ComesGreatResponsibility, as Alice soon discovers. When she and Mayura both fall in love with Kyo Wakamiya, they argue. Alice angrily wishes her sister would disappear...and she does. Nyozeka tells Alice that Mayura has fallen prey to the Maram Words, words of darkness, and the only way to set things right is for her to use the Lotis Words and save her sister from the dark.

Things soon get even more complicated. Kyo is revealed to be a potential Lotis Master, and Frey, a guide chosen to lead them, seems more interested in catching girls than defeating the Maram. And Mayura may not go willingly...

!!This manga contains examples of:

* AliceAllusion: The main character's name, Alice, and the fact that one of Nyozeka's forms is a white rabbit.
%%* AlphaBitch: Oishi. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]], as she's infected by Mara.
* APupilOfMineUntilHeTurnedToEvil: Darva used to be the best disciple of Master Lotsuan, who lost himself instead of embracing the harmony between light (the Lotis) and darkness (the Maram).
* AttemptedRape:
** Tetsuya to Alice. Kyo stops him at first, and in the Lotis World when he tries it again, Alice herself stops him.
** Oishi tries something similar on Kyo, but he rebuffs her.
* BigBad: Darva, a powerful and ancient entity that is the source of the Maram Words, who is willing to drive the world into its destruction by corrupting the hearts of its inhabitants. He is also using Mayura (while manipulating her) as a [[DemonicPossession body host]] to reincarnate on Earth.
* [[BigBrotherInstinct Big Sister Instinct]]: Inverted. Mayura sets Alice up with a boy she doesn't know personally because she's afraid Alice is becoming too close to Kyo. When the boy tries to ''rape'' Alice--and Kyo saves her--instead of feeling guilt for putting her younger sister in a bad situation Mayura ''blames Alice'' for making Kyo get violent.
* TheChosenOne: Alice and Kyo are the Legendary Neo Masters that are destined to defeat Darva with the power of the Lost Words, ancient Lotis Words that Master Lotsuan created to stop him.
* TheCorruption: The power behind the Mara and the Maram Words is that they can corrupt people's hearts and turning them into evil monsters.
%%* CreepyChild: The Maram demon that looks like a young Alice.
* DarkMagicalGirl: Mayura is portrayed as a counterpart to Alice, not only because of her [[TheAce Ace status]] (although she sees herself as a BrokenAce), but also because she becomes the "villain" once she gets under Darva's influence (she is a Maram Master, while her sister is a Lotis Master). In many colored art pics, she is also often depicted wearing black clothes, while Alice uses more lighter (leading to white) clothes.
* DieOrFly: Alice and Kyo learn "Vimuku", which gives them wings, while falling to their deaths.
%%* DisproportionateRetribution: Mayura engages in this a lot. Though, she is controlled by Darva.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Darva's human appearance is depicted as a long haired man (with some feminine features) that is always using a cloak.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: It takes a lot of struggle and pain for the characters, but the world is saved and they're able to put the words they've learned to good use.
* FaceHeelTurn: Mayura was only a BrokenAce who was jealous of her little sister, Alice. She becomes aggressive towards her once she falls into Darva's influence, and [[FromBadToWorse it gets worse]] when it is revealed that she is being possessed by him as a way to reincarnate and destroy humanity. Alice spends most of the series trying to free her from the darkness of her heart because she still loves her, no matter what.
* FakingAmnesia: In Volume 3, Mayura fakes [[TraumaInducedAmnesia amnesia]] after being rescued from Darva, [[spoiler: as a way to mess up with Alice's good intentions of saving her]].
* TheGenericGuy: Compared to the other international Lotis Masters (Frey and Chris), Billy and Mei-Lin don't have too much CharacterDevelopment, besides their basic traits (being wiser and more experienced than Alice and Kyo), as Watase couldn't expand their backstories in the series.
* GreenEyedMonster: Once Mayura is corrupted by Darva, her envy and [[ClingyJealousGirl jealousy towards Alice and Kyo's bonding relationship]] grows to the extent of desiring to drive Alice into despair, [[MurderTheHypotenuse murder her]], and tempting Kyo to fall into darkness (dead or alive) with her.
* IJustWantToBeLoved: This is Oishi's motivation, as her parents never paid attention to her.
* JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind: The most effective way to purify the Mara within any human is going through their "Inner Heart" to defeat it.
* {{Kaiju}}: Darva's true form is a giant beast that towers over cities.
%%* KillEmAll: [[spoiler: Happens to Billy, Frey, Chris, Mei Lin, and Nyozeka. They get better]].
* MagicalGirlWarrior: Instead of being just a MagicalGirl, Alice (and her friends, the rest of the Lotis Masters) is given magical power (through the Lotis Words) as she is expected to fight and defeat the evil within the "Inner Heart".
* NightmareDreams: After Mayura's disappearance, Alice experiences several nightmares due to the guilt she feels about it. It becomes worse once Mayura returns, since she is messing up with her mind.
* NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler: After the rest of the Lotis Masters are seemingly killed by Darva, they regain consciousness not so long after Alice recovers herself from her HeroicBSOD and starts defeating Darva (with Kyo's help) while reciting the Lost Words. When they find out that they are still alive, Billy explains that they "wouldn't die so easily".]]
* ParentsAsPeople: Alice's parents are both affected by the Maram, and after she saves them they try to support her efforts more.
* PoorCommunicationKills:
** Alice being unwilling to speak her mind drives some of Mayura's resentment.
** Mayura wouldn't have been sent away had she not done a full-screening on the boy she was going to let Alice hook up with. Alice was trying her best to explain that the boy was trying to force himself upon her and Kyo stopped him just in time, but she didn't want to listen. Alice then makes her sister disappear.
* PowerGivesYouWings: The word "Vimuku" has connotations of wings, and it gives Alice and Kyo the strength to fly while saving Mayura.
%%* PrecisionFStrike: Mayura lets loose one of these at the end of the second volume, as she has been corrupted by the Mara.
* PrimalFear: Mayura plans to drive Alice into despair as she wants to get rid of ''anyone'' who is important to her, as a way to leave her all alone. She poisons her mother, transports her father to his "Inner Heart", tricks her classmates and friends, and even considers in turning Kyo against her through various means.
* {{Reincarnation}}:
** Darva is an ancient entity that feeds on the humans' darkest desires, and when someone has fallen deeply into the darkness (as Mayura's resentment towards Alice), he will manipulate and possess them to come back.
** When visiting Nyozeka's "Inner Heart", [[spoiler: Master Lotsuan explains to Alice that Nyozeka is planning to be reborn ''alongside her'' soon, since she has loved her ever since they first met. Some time after Darva's defeat, her spirit reveals to Alice that she has already decided to reincarnate and that she has chosen her human form. It's implied that she has chosen to be Alice and Kyo's daughter, as she convinces Alice to confess her feelings towards Kyo in that moment she talks with her.]]
* ShiftingSandLand: Oishi's Inner Heart is a parched desert, reflecting her state of mind.
* ShrinkingViolet: Alice is too shy to say how she really feels in many situations she gets involved into, as she doesn't like any kind of conflict.
* SiblingRivalry: Alice and Mayura fight over Kyo, and later battle for the fate of the world.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS:
** Many of the international translations don't tend to agree on a single option of the following romanized foreign names due to how the katakana works in them -- Mala[=/=]Mara[=/=]Maara, Malamu[=/=]Maram[=/=]Maaram, Dalvia[=/=]Dalva[=/=]Darva, and Lotusan[=/=]Lotsan.
** Mei-lin and Mei-rin are used within the series in the original Japanese, as "Mei-lin" is used in the story but it is also seen romanized as "Mei-rin" in the cover of the sixth volume. Most of the translations go by "Mei-lin", though.
** Frey's name is often seen translated as "Frey" or "Frei", depending on the international translation. Both are correct, since "frey" means "lord" in Scandinavian, and "frei" is just a variant from "frey".
* TongueTied: Mayura magically "forbids" Alice to tell Kyo about her feelings for him through a curse that she [[spoiler: put on Kyo's chest. That curse is the Maram Word "Mudol" (hate) -- if Alice ever tells him that she loves him, he would ''die''.]]
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: The boy that Mayura suggested to be her sister's boyfriend tries to force himself upon Alice. Kyo comes in and saves Alice from being assaulted but Mayura blames Alice for causing Kyo to lash out. Now, again, ''who was the one who set Alice up with the boy?''
* WarriorTherapist: After cleansing the Mara, Alice tells the person their true feelings to help them heal.
* WordsCanBreakMyBones: The Lotis and Maram Words can help or hurt people, respectively, as they are words that come from the heart of a person.
