Fading Echo: Is the official LP forum now closed to non-members? All the threads in the forum now seem to require being a member in order to see.
AceOfScarabs: Looks like server issues for the goons again. It'll probably be back to normal in a bit, I hope, because [=LPs=] are awesome.
----
{{Kaitou1412}} Kudos to whomever edited the Jerusalem San Andreas/MIITW articles I created so that they don't suck, it's looks way more appealing now!
{{Tanto}}: Huh. I could have sworn we already had an entry on this, post-Crash.
{{SynjoDeonecros}}: There was, but apparently it was heavily altered; this new one fails to take into account the non SA-affiliated Let's Players (of which I am a member) that have cropped up and created their own forum for. Needless to say, for the most part, neither side likes the other very much.
DarkSoldier: I didn't know about the non-SA players until just now.
{{SynjoDeonecros}}: I didn't know Let's Plays even ''existed'' until recently, let alone that it was originally an SA phenomena originally.
{{Ununnilium}}: I don't know about "this troper's recommendations".
{{Tanto}}: Yeah, we don't do anything like that on any other pages. It would probably be better to mimic the format in {{Speedrun}} -- a direct link and a description.
{{Nemo2342}}: At the risk of making this article a little too subjective, perhaps we should mention the different types of Let's Play (screen shot, video, and hybrid) as well as the subformat of Let's Fail (basically videos of people playing games for the first time and failing horribly due to them being Nintendo Hard).
DarkSoldier: It looks like SomethingAwful has changed its forums so that non-registered users can't view threads. I was following three LP's religiously until a couple of days ago, when I started getting a "Register an Account" page.
{{fleb}}: I don't think that's it. They've had a "Threads started six months ago or more are members-only" thing for a long time now. So all the threads you cared about just had a hidden Tenbux timebomb strapped around them all along.
DarkSoldier: [[strike:Oddly, I can view them again, and I didn't even sign up.]] Nope, I have to register again. Well, it's only ten bucks; that's not a huge investment.
Slowbeef: You should be able to see SA threads in the Let's Play sub-forum even if you're not a registered member. No signing up should be necessary.
AccountingNightmare: Public viewing of the LP subforum seems to get switched on and off all the time. I'm not sure why, but if you can't view it now, try again in a few more days.
raocow: Actually, viewability is mostly decided, I think, by the amount of users currently on the forums. If there are too many, in order to keep the servers from slowing down they boot out those who are not registered. Or something. So just go back from time to time, really.
Garin: I think the namedropping in this article is a bit strange, and you don't really need to mention people in any kind of Let's Play format. Really, if you're wanting to streamline this article, just talk about what it is and then link the various websites. No need to add in people because some of this comes off as incredibly creepy and just plain '''wrong'''. DeceasedCrab didn't get me started in LPing.
{{Tanto}}: ...Um, what? It's more in the nature of giving the name of an author of a book, which is sort of relevant. It's a lot of work and deserves due credit.
Slowbeef: For the record, not being able to see LPs if you aren't a SomethingAwful member was, in fact, a bug. They are viewable to the public now and in general, always should be. There's a couple of gripes I had in the page. Deceased Crab most certainly brought VLPs to YouTube, but he was actually a relative latecomer to Video Let's Play. (La Mulana was originally going to be screenshot, actually.) - VLP had been around and popular for about three or four months ; its popularity is partly responsible for SomethingAwful creating a Let's Play Subforum. (LPs were cluttering up the Games forum.) He and Proton Jon were the ones who made it popular on YouTube.

{{Kalle}}: Geez, guys, keep the drama ''out'' of the trope page. :P
*Although you might not want to see him now due to some stupid internet drama going on on You Tube that I don't understand at all.
**Said Internet drama is ended now. It was all a sociology experiment guys!
***Said Internet drama is not, in fact, over.
****This is getting silly, but it appears to be over again; last this troper checked, the stupid drama videos were removed from the account.
*****This troper's money is on them reappearing with a big "YOUTUBE SO STUPID" video heralding their arrival.

{{Citizen}}: Eddie, why did you have to remove the Boatmurdered quote? It was there first. =/
->25th Moonstone, 1063, Early Winter

-->OH MY GOD. [[spoiler:Sankis]] is on a [[UnstoppableRage bloody rampage!]] He mauled a baby and a cow, and now, at this very instant, he's beating the Elite Marksdwarf Kadol Lokumad into paste!

->--[[http://fromearth.net/LetsPlay/Boatmurdered/ Let's Play Dwarf Fortress: Boatmurdered (chapter 2-18)]]
{{Tanto}}: I imagine it's because they don't make any sense out of context, nor do they further understanding of the trope. Thus, not good page-quote material.
{{Citizen}}: I thought it made sense as an example of how [[HilarityEnsues hilarity can ensue]] in the documenting of a Lets Play session... Oh, well.
InsanityPrelude: It does sum up DwarfFortress pretty damn well though.
----
Malicious Illusion: Some editors need to remember ThereIsNoSuchThingAsNotability and stop removing examples for not being "notable". Wikipedia, we ain't.
{{Rogue 7}}: Is it just me, or do you have to be a Goon to access the threads now? I have no intention of paying $10 to join up, and I was reading/watching a few Let's Plays...I'm sad now.
InsanityPrelude: I know, right? I wanted to read the Oregon Trail II one.
FreezairForALimitedTime: I would say that it's a good way to drive people away from your forums, but, knowing SA, that's probably the point. Luckily, I've bookmarked all my favorite VLP'ers' pages, and I can wait for screenshot ones to show up on the Let's Play Archive.
{{Blue_blaze94}}
Read above,it's a bug that happens from time to time,it should be back up in a day or so.
{{Emperordaein}}: [[strike: It's been about 4 days. When will they fix the bug? Or is the LP forum locked for good. If it is, damn you SA. I don't want to wait forever just to have the LP's appear on the Archive.]] Never mind, the forums are back to normal
----
VoodooMaster: I, being stupid, don't quite understand how the Let's Players make these. Do they film themselves playing and add commentary later, or do they talk ''while'' playing?
It depends on the Let's Player. I've seen some add the commentary later, but most people seem to talk as they play.
----
FreezairForALimitedTime: Where would one recommend an LP that ''originated'' on SA, but ''isn't'' available from the archive due to the thread it's on not being archived? (It's from a Short Game Theater post, for the record.) It doesn't quite seem to fit in with either.
But man, "Time Truckin'" is one awesome threefer.

Hello. I am new to Let's plays. What does let's playing something blind mean exactly? Does it entail playing the game while bereft of sight? Or does it mean something else?
FreezairForALimitedTime: Playing a game blind means that you've never played it before, and the LP is your first experience of it. So, say, someone doing a blind Let's Play of, say, ''MadWorld'' had never played through ''MadWorld'' before.
Thank you. I see a blind Lets Play of Eversion. Oh dear. This should be interesting

{{Emperordaein}}: [[http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2987798 Ouch.]] That SUCKS. It's a shame too. TheDarkId was my favorite LP author and this was one I was looking forward to. I did not mind the 6 month wait either, just saw his Onimusha 3 LP as a tide over. Oh well, be careful what you wish for.....
EDIT: Okay, this is messed up. All of TheDarkId's LP's have been banned from the archive. This does not feel right.....
{{Lupine_Volt}} Don't worry, they're back.

Is this page really necessary?
I have to ask.
I mean, Let's Play isn't really a trope, now is it?
RobertBingham: It's mainly a type of NewMedia, and showcases a lot of videogame-related tropes. Plus it's a great source of [[CrowningMomentOfFunny Crowning Moments of Funny]], particularly when PlatformHell gets involved. As such, I've restored the page.
