Film/TheMightyDucks movies were a popular series of films, reminiscent of TheBadNewsBears, where a RagtagBunchOfMisfits kids play hockey and get into various misadventures and manage to work things out just in time to win the championship game or whatever.
Well, Disney being Disney, it was soon announced that an animated "Mighty Ducks" series was on the way. (This was around the same time the popularity of the movies peaked and when Disney created a real Mighty Ducks professional hockey team. By a remarkable coincidence, to be sure.)
The Mighty Ducks animated series was, to put it gently, rather a surprise for viewers expecting a comedy series about misfit kids playing hockey.
It was instead about (sit down for this) a team of super-powered anthropomorphic ducks who fight aliens with hockey-themed gadgets. Yes, somewhere in space there were two dinosaur-derived races. Interestingly, the race descended from Ceratopsians, led by Lord Dragaunus, were evil and the Therapod (well, more specifically, duck) descended race was good. By an incredible coincidence, the Duck's entire culture was based upon hockey. When Lord Dragaunus pursues the Ducks to Earth, the Ducks form an NHL team where they can hide in plain sight.
It is very possible that whomever came up with all this did so after suffering serious head trauma, or after watching a few too many episodes of TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles. (We also cannot rule out the possibility that they'd suffered serious head trauma and then watched a marathon of [=TMNT=] whilst recovering.)

!!This series contains examples of:
* AbnormalAmmo: Hockey pucks.
* AdaptationDecay: Really.
* AnimalSuperheroes
* AnimatedAdaptation
* AnotherDimension: The HeroicFantasy-ish version of Anaheim seen in "Dungeons and Ducks" and "The Return of Astroth".
** Technically, the ducks and Saurians also came to Earth from (another) another dimension.
* BetterThanItSounds: Seriously.
* ConspicuousCG
* TravelCool: As the premise demands:
** CoolCar: The Migrator, borderline BaseOnWheels
** CoolPlane: The last of the military's Aerowings.
** CoolBike: Enough for each Duck.
* DinosaursAreDragons: Writ large (look at the Big Bad's name), at least for all the dinosaurs who aren't hockey playing ducks.
* EarWorm: The ThemeSong.
* FakeDefector: Duke in "To Catch A Duck"
* FemmeFatale: Lucretia [=DeCoy=] in "A Traitor Among Us".
* FieryRedhead: Mallory.
* FiveManBand: In this case, a Six Anthropomorphic Duck Band.
* GadgeteerGenius: Tanya.
* GentleGiant: Grin.
* GretzkyHasTheBall: Although hockey is accurately portrayed, the Ducks don't respect a few prerequisites for a team...
* HeelFaceTurn: Duke L'Orange started out as a GentlemanThief before using his skills for good.
* HeroicSacrifice: In the pilot, the Ducks' original leader throws himself into an interdimensional vortex to save the rest of the team.
* HeyItsThatVoice: TimCurry voices Lord Dragaunus.
* IKnowMaddenKombat: The ducks and their hockey based combat.
* IceCreamKoan:
-->Grin: Pain is an illusion... an illusion that really hurts!
* IncredibleShrinkingMan ("Microducks")
* Jerkass: Phil Palmfeather, the Ducks' money-grubbing manager.
* MindControl ("Phil in the Blank")
* TheMostDangerousGame ("The Most Dangerous Duck Hunt")
* NoFourthWall
* NonMammalMammaries: One of the most ridiculous examples yet.
* PettingZooPeople: The Ducks are basically bulky humans - complete with hair and breasts - with variants of Donald Duck's face slapped on.
* PunnyName: "Duke L'Orange".
* LaResistance: The Mighty Ducks, after Dragaunus took over Puckworld and before everyone came to Earth.
* SeriousBusiness: Puckworld's entire culture is based around hockey, if it wasn't obvious from the name. Though the Ducks don't have much trouble fitting in on Earth after a while.
** Just in case any of the viewers missed it from the premise and name, there is a field of puck-shaped asteroids near it, along with a nebula shaped like a hockey mask.
* ShoutOut: "Puck Fiction" is an AffectionateParody of PulpFiction.
** Puckworld... Duckworld...
** When a dissolutioned Wildwing temporarily leaves the team, Nosedive gets to wear the leader's mask and tells his worried comrades "Hakuna Matata" (which, as you know, means no worries for the rest of your days).
* SquishyWizard: One of Dragaunus' two Squishy minions is a conventional version of this, the other is a tiny ShapeShifting creature who turns into a Big Guy during combat. Rounding out the Four Bad Band is... another Big Guy.
* SoBadItsGood: In a weird way, you can't not love that premise.
* TownWithADarkSecret ("The Human Factor")
* WeaponOfChoice: Each Duck (and each of the villains) has their own personal weapon. Wildwing has his IKnowMaddenKombat explosive puck launcher (essentially a grenade launcher), Duke L'Orange uses a laser sword, Tanya has various gadgets on her wrist device including a small chainsaw, and the rest of the ducks mostly use pistols.
* WhereDidTheyGetLasers: For some reason, the local donut-loving CowboyCop Klegghorn also has a blaster pistol.
