A popular roleplaying board based on BattleRoyale, Survival of the Fittest has been around for roughly three years, and is one of the few [=RPs=] in the fandom with an entirely original plot (though the full details have yet to be revealed). A winner has already been found for "version one" and "version two", and "version three" is approaching its climax, with more secrets behind the mysterious terrorist organization behind SOTF being subtly revealed in the announcements. With a fairly large community, and even a wiki, SOTF looks like it will be around for quite some time.
The roleplay is geared primarily towards intermediate-advanced level writers, so it might not be for everyone, especially if they are new to roleplaying. However, [=SOTF=] ''is'' open for anyone to join - although there is a member approval process in place, as well as a rigourous character acceptance system.
Version three is winding down, with very few students left alive, but that doesn't mean it's too late to join in. Registrations for the version four Pregame are open, and it is proceeding quickly.

For reference, those [=RPing=] characters are called 'handlers' on the board, so if you see [=SotF=] examples using the word, this is what is meant by it.
If you [[IThoughtItMeant thought this page was about]] the slogan coined to summarize the theory of evolution and later appropriated by people who consider themselves fit, you're looking for {{Darwinist}}.

This roleplay provides ''notable'' examples of the following (please add examples to their relevant pages. This article is long enough without every new trope to apply to the series being added to it):
*AbortedArc: Many, which is to expected given the nature of the [=RP=] Board.
*AbusiveParents: This occurs very often, although most of the more obvious examples can be found within the first two games. For some, such as Mariavel Varella, this is a defining part of their backstory.
*AntiHero: Many, the most notable being Bryan Calvert, Hawley Faust, [[spoiler:and as of V3, Adam Dodd.]]
*AntiVillain: Bobby Jacks is an example of this trope. Whilst he does play the game, he is constantly plagued by his guilty conscience, being painfully aware of everything he is doing. Indeed, he compares himself to {{Macbeth}} on several occasions. IDidWhatIHadToDo about covers his justification.
*BulletProofVest: Subverted for the most part - in SOTF, these tend to be treated very realistically. However, this is also played straight in the case of Shannon [=McLocke=], who takes a close range shotgun blast to the chest and gets up with barely a scratch.
*CaughtWithYourPantsDown: This happens to Beth Vandelinder - as Melina Frost walks in her. Particularly squicky as Melina then forces her to ''keep going'' before effectively ''[[RapeAsDrama joining in]]''. DepravedBisexual indeed... Oh, and Melina uses a vase to help.
*{{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Mitch Gunther. V4's Cisco Vasquez is definitely one of these as well.
-->'''Mitch:''' Dog eat dog. Dogs don't eat dogs, they eat birds and cats and Kibblebits if they have a family. Those words are silly. But I would have gotten that right if that silly glasses boy hadn't answered before me. Yes, I would have gotten it right.
** Anna Kateridge.
-->'''Anna:''' Oh dear... I regret to say this, but I feel as though I'm in the uncanny valley right now... oh my, did that inside joke come out alright? I hope I did...
*ClusterFBomb: In V1, Adam Dodd is as famous for this as Jacob Starr is for [[MadeOfIron having too much iron in his blood]]. There are others, but nobody has quite reached his level of profanity.
** Dorian Sanders of V3 is inadvertently gunning for the crown. [[http://z10.invisionfree.com/SOTF_V2/index.php?showtopic=2464&st=15entry14057017 See his rant against Julie Mikan]] for evidence.
*ColdBloodedTorture: Occurs quite often with insane characters, for example, J.R. Rizzolo cruelly tortures Cara Scholte and Laeil Burbank in V3.
*CompleteMonster: Cody Jenson of V1 after his first two kills.
*CrowningMomentofAwesome: Most characters will get one at some point. One of the better examples involves a character being ''dropkicked'' off the roof of a building.
*DesertedIsland: The main stage of Survival of the Fittest.
*DownerEnding: By default - when the game has only one survivor, there's going to be precious little to smile about.
*DroppedABridgeOnHim: Mods are often forced to do this to inactive characters. A massive wave of inactivity in V3 forced the admins to (allegedly) kill off a large number of characters off screen en masse, including major characters such as Neil Sinclair, Julie Mikan, Darnell Butler, and even Adam Dodd.
*ExplosiveLeash: Following the story of BattleRoyale, collars are fitted to every character. They go off if they are in a dangerzone, if attempts are made to remove them, if the character attempts to escape, if they piss off [[BigBad Danya]]...
*{{Expy}}: Some of the characters are blatant clones of either past SOTF characters or characters from Battle Royale.
*{{Flashback}}s: Loads of them.
*FridgeLogic: A fair bit. Any number of cool scenes can fall into this trap. Say for example, Adam Dodd's killing of terrorist Elijah Rice. Basically, Adam cuts his opponent in half. ''Awesome.'' But wait, this guy is wearing body armour, it isn't a particularly strong sword and Adam is an exhausted, not very muscular teenager. The whole scene falls down.
* {{Gorn}}: Rather...''prevalent''.
*HeroicBSOD: Adam Dodd, after the deaths of Madeleine Shirohara and Amanda Jones and a few other characters.
*HeroicMime: V4's Ivan Kuznetsov is something of an example of this. He tries to get through every situation by saying the least amount of words possible, often settling for elipses.
*HeroicSacrifice: Notably, ''handlers'' can do this, using their 'Hero Card' to have their own character killed off in order to save someone else's.
*HopeSpot: Several. For example Ricardo Chee's death or Elsie Darroch's.
*KarmaHoudini: Even though the survivors had pledged to kill Danya, the mastermind of SOTF has so far managed to avoid any major punishment (like a well-deserved KarmicDeath) at the end of each version. We'll just have to wait and see how the endgame of Version 3 plays out...
*KilledOffForReal: ''Everyone'' - except for Andrea Vanlandingham, Burton Harris, and Denise Depuis (the ''first'' time each of them were 'killed', that is)
*KillEmAll: The whole point of the game, being based on BattleRoyale, is to force the involved students to kill each other off until there is only one survivor.
*LampshadeHanging: Has proven to be quite common over the three year history and thousands of posts of SOTF.
*LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: Each game has over one hundred students, and one of the test runs had two hundred, as does v3.
**By the looks of things, V4 is turning out to have numbers around 250 so far.
*MadeOfIron: While there were other examples, Jacob Starr was the most egregious example to the point where the SOTF community has their own name for this trope: the Jacob Treatment.
*MarySue: Plenty of them show up in the application process.
*MoralEventHorizon: Cody Jensen raping and murdering Madelaine Shirohara, and then accidentally killing Amanda Jones.
*NightmareFuel: The gore of some scenes is simply unbelievable, and others are ''incredibly'' creepy.
*ParanoiaFuel: This troper finds himself constantly wondering which of his classmates would end up murdering him after browsing the forum for too long.
*OutWithABang: Happens to a few characters in V1 and in V2. As Mr. Danya put it during his announcements.
-->Danya: She took him to Heaven before she took him down to Hell.
*SinisterSurveillance: The cameras all around the Island, along with the collars track everything the students are doing.
*TearJerker: Several, although given the [[KillEmAll premise]], that isn't really surprising.
*TheTetrisEffect: Just find a few characters you're interested in, and watch the hours whittle away.
*ThePowerOfFriendship: Subverted to hell in many, many instances. Sydney Morvran, winner of V0 (the final 'test run') is the most prominent example of this. He ends up being the sole survivor of his first game by using his best friend as a human shield after all the rest of his friends started attacking one another in a paranoid fit. Then Syd was put into the next game as punishment for not killing anybody.
*WebOriginal: While the RP is based on Koshun Takami's BattleRoyale, it has entirely original characters and a very different setting and plot. While a FanWork, it also originated on the web and has branched off in a different direction from the original BattleRoyale. It used to be based in the same universe as BattleRoyale, but was retconned in v3 to be set in an original setting.
*WriteWhoYouKnow: There are a large number of self insert characters or characters who are basically people the handler knows in real life. These characters are typically portrayed realistically, however.
*YourHeadAsplode: Collar detonation. Stay in a danger zone too long, try to remove the collar, suffer an unfortunate impact, get used as an example by Danya to try to scare off [=SADD=]...
