-->-- '''Date Masamune'''
''Sengoku Basara'' is somehow a copycat of ''SamuraiWarriors'', only made by Capcom. The main difference is the over-the-top presentation of characters, designs, and history, which make the game even more loosely based real life than ''Samurai Warriors''. While still slightly based on history, they decided to throw most historical accuracies out the window and just have an original, fun story. They don't want a history simulation like KOEI, they just want a new-generation HackAndSlash with Sengoku characters! Expect a lot of {{Flanderization}}s here, good or bad, and lots lots of famous seiyuu voicing the characters (SoichiroHoshi and MamikoNoto, for example). Still, it manages to hold a strong fanbase, especially in Japan, and has been considered quite good competition to ''SamuraiWarriors''.
When you think about it, it's essentially ''SamuraiWarriors'' on crack.
Capcom attempted to bring this to the States by giving it a {{Macekre}} treatment in the form of ''Devil Kings'', which changed the characters' names and removed all Sengoku Period references. Safe to say, it bombed and Capcom has been scared to bring the ''Sengoku Basara'' sequels to western audiences (perhaps they should have left in the 'Samurai Warriors/Sengoku' and not just the 'crack'...)
So far two games have been released, ''Sengoku Basara'' in 2005 and ''Sengoku Basara 2'' in 2006. An extension, ''Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes'' was also created for the second game, and a 2-D fighting game ''Sengoku Basara Cross'' followed. Another 3-D fighting game, ''Sengoku Basara Battle Heroes'' was released early 2009. ''Sengoku Basara 3'' has been announced and is scheduled for a 2010 release.
An {{anime}} adaptation of the series started airing on April 1, 2009. A second season is being planned for 2010. {{FUNimation}} has announced that it is picking up the first season to be dubbed...as ''[[CueCullen Sengoku Basara]]'' [[CueCullen rather than]] ''[[CueCullen Devil Kings]]''.
And in the wake of that, recently Capcom announced that ''Sengoku Basara 3'' shall be brought to US once more, now properly instead of [[{{Macekre}} revamping it as Devil Kings]], the title will be ''Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes''.
There is also a manga adaption, ''Sengoku Basara Ranse Ranbu''. The first and second games have also been made into manga.
[[Characters/SengokuBasara Also kindly look at the Characters Sheet.]]
-----
!!This game provides examples of:
*AFatherToHisMen: Motochika, to the degree that his followers refer to him as 'aniki' (big bro). Shingen is a fairly decent example as well.
*AGodAmI: '''"I am the Demon King of the Sixth Heaven, ODA NOBUNAGA!!!"'''
*AbsoluteCleavage, {{Stripperiffic}}: Kasuga. Just. Kasuga.
*AnIcePerson: Kenshin, Itsuki and Hojo
*AnachronismStew: Most of the main characters lived in vastly different periods of the Sengoku Era... Also, Masamune's horse has chopper exhaust pipes and handlebars and his soldiers look like archetypical delinquents, including one with a pompadour.
** Still nothing to be on par on the Stew-ism of [[FanNickname Hon]][[MobileSuitGundam dam]] [[HumongousMecha Tadakatsu]]
** And don't forget Nouhime's HyperspaceArsenal, complete with [[GatlingGood minigun]].
*AnAxeToGrind: Shingen. And it's a friggin' ''huge''!
*AnchorsAway: Motochika
*AnimeThemeSong: '''Crosswise''', by [[GundamSEED T.M. Revolution]]. It's so awesome that as a tip of the hat to ''FistOfTheNorthStar'' (which was partially made by the same company, Arc System Works) it's used as the theme song for the Basara K.O. in ''Cross''.
** The anime, meanwhile, uses JAP by Abingdon Boys School, a J-rock band with T.M Revolution as its frontman.
***It's PSP game theme song too!
** Abingdon Boys School also did "Blade Chord", the song for ''Heroes''.
** And lo and behold, T.M Revolution will be returning to provide the opening theme to up and coming [=SB3=].
*ApologisesALot: Oichi seems to think that ''everything'' is her fault. Nagamasa usually tells her to shut up about it.
*AwesomenessMeter
*AxCrazy: Mitsuhide
*{{Badass}}: All the fighters from the game series. Being a {{mook}} there is not a recipe for a long and happy life, unless your commander happens to be one of said badasses.
**BadassArmy
**BackToBackBadasses: Masamune and Kojuurou, Yukimura and Sasuke
**BadassBiker: Masamune in the anime. Except his bike is a horse with exhaust pipes.
**BadassCape: Nobunaga. His can attack people.
**BadassGrandpa: Shimazu Yoshihiro
**HandicappedBadass: Masamune, Motochika
**LittleMissBadass: Itsuki
**BadassLongcoat: Kojuurou
**BadassPreacher: It's hard to say that Zabii is badass, being a jolly LoveFreak, but...
*BattleButler: Kojuuro
*BattleCouple: Toshiie and Matsu, Nagamasa and Oichi.
*BeardOfEvil: Nobunaga has some evil facial hair going on.
*TheBeastmaster: Matsu
*BeyondTheImpossible: This game ''revels'' in its crazy fighting game action.
*{{BFG}}: Zabii
*{{BFS}}: Keiji, Yoshihiro
*BigBad: Nobunaga, [[spoiler:Mitsuhide]]
** Hideyoshi in the second game.
*{{Bishounen}}: Kenshin... and he LIKES posing!
*BladeOnAStick: Yukimura, Ieyasu, Toshiie, Matsu, Oichi, Hojo.
*BlondBrunetteRedhead: The {{Ninja}} - Kasuga = blond, Sasuke = brunette, Fuuma = redhead
*BlueBishonenGhetto
*BodyguardCrush: Kasuga and Kenshin
*BrattyHalfPint: Ieyasu and probably Musashi too.
*BreakTheCutie: Oichi, to a T.
*CallingYourAttacks: Well obviously, it's a fighting game!
*CapcomSequelStagnation: These days, they just milk the continuity around ''Sengoku Basara 2''.
** Subverted with the announcement that ''Sengoku Basara 3'' will be arriving in 2010.
*ChaoticGood: Masamune, Itsuki
*ChangingOfTheGuard: It is obvious that Tokugawa will steal most of the spotlight in ''Sengoku Basara 3''.
*CherryBlossoms: Because it just wouldn't be Feudal Japan without 'em.
*ChurchMilitant: Zabii's goal is apparently the conversion of all Japan to his faith. How you ask? [[{{BFG}} Superior firepower]].
*ColourCodedForYourConvenience: Most notable are main rivals Yukimura and Masamune, who wear [[RedOniBlueOni red and blue]] respectively. Mouri and Chousokabe also sport complimentary colour schemes.
*CompleteMonster: Mitsuhide - at times, he seems even worse than Nobunaga.
*CoolOldGuy: Shingen, Yoshihiro
*CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Keiji
*CrowningMusicOfAwesome: "Crosswise", by T.M. Revolution. Serves as the opening theme of ''Cross'' and also plays during every character's [[FinishingMove Basara K.O.]]
** From the anime, we have "Sixth Heaven Devil King" (第六天魔王), [[BigBad Oda Nobunaga's]] {{Leitmotif}}.
*CuteBruiser: Itsuki, who lugs around a massive hammer.
*DarkerAndEdgier: ''Sengoku Basara 3'' [[spoiler:is promising to be much darker and more serious story-wise than its predecessors]].
*DarkIsNotEvil: If she doesn't really break, Oichi is rather harmless. Likewise the ninja Sasuke, who's quite a nice guy.
*DeadpanSnarker: Sasuke, mostly in reaction to Shingen and Yukimura's HotBlooded antics. Also a case of being the OnlySaneMan.
*DirtyCoward, SissyVillain: Imagawa Yoshimoto, who may also be a case of LightIsNotGood.
*DistressedDamsel: Nobunaga LOVES putting his sister Oichi in this position, mostly to coax Nagamasa. [[YouBastard What an S.O.B]].
*DropTheHammer: Itsuki
*DualWielding: Masamune scoffs at your feeble *dual*-wield and prefers to wield ''six'' swords at a time (three in each hand). Yukimura dual-wields ''spears'', and Mitsuhide dual-wields scythes.
** The {{Ninja}} Sasuke, Kasuga and Fuuma also dual wield. Sasuke with [[FuumaShuriken shuriken]], Kasuga with [[FlechetteStorm knives]], and Fuuma with [[EveryJapaneseSwordIsAKatana ninja-tou]].
*{{Emo}}: Mitsuhide. And his horse.
** And Mitsunari. His hairstyle says it all.
*EnfantTerrible: Ranmaru
*EnsembleDarkhorse: Which is one way to get promoted from NPC to playable character. Motochika and Motonari were popular [=NPCs=] that got promoted into playable characters in the second game. From the second game to the expansion pack, Kojuuro, Nagamasa and Oichi. But mainly '''Oichi''' (the one who spawns the most fanarts between those three).
*EstrogenBrigadeBait: Well, do you need an explanation?
*EverythingsBetterWithMonkeys: Keiji's cute little mascot Yumekichi.
*EverythingsBetterWithSpinning: Kenshin, Nagamasa
*EvilOverlord: OdaNobunaga
*EvilVersusEvil: Nobunaga, the resident EvilOverlord is often pitted against AxCrazy Mitsuhide (appropriate, as Mitsuhide caused Oda's death in RealLife). ''Basara 2'' had evil but WellIntentionedExtremist Hideyoshi as Nobunaga's official rival.
*EvenEvilHasStandards: Nobunaga, Hisahide
*EveryoneIsGay
*EyeBeams: In the opening sequence for ''Battle Heroes'', frickin' 100 foot-tall versions of Nobunaga and Hideyoshi shoot frickin' LASERBEAMS out of their eyes! Needless to say, it was awesome. Shame it didn't happen in the game itself.
*EyepatchOfPower: Masamune and Motochika make being half-blind cool. [[FetishFuel And hot.]]
** Though while Masamune was indeed missing his right eye in RealLife, there is no record to suggest that Motochika was in the same situation. It probably just adds to his [[{{Pirate}} piratey]] image...
*FanNickname: [[MobileSuitGundam Hondam]]
** [=MotorHorse=] has been coined for Date Masamune's CoolHorse, for [[NinjaPirateZombieRobot obvious reasons]].
** Nobunaga [[CodeGeass zi Britannia]], anyone?
** [=Hula-man=] for those who can't be bothered to spell Mouri Motonari right.
*FeedMe: Motonari, when introducing himself, gets strangely hammy: '''"I AM THE CHILD OF THE SUN, MOURI MOTONARI!!! NOW COOOOOMMMMEEEE!!!!"'''
*{{Flanderization}}: To the max!
*FightingGame: ''Sengoku Basara X'' and ''Sengoku Basara Battle Heroes''.
*FoeYay: Fills this to the absolute brim. The Anime takes this BeyondTheImpossible.
*FriendlyEnemy: Masamune and Yukimura. [[spoiler:Ultimately, they go back to being rivals.]]
*FullNameBasis: Masamune always refers to Yukimura by his full name.
*FunnyForeigner: Zabii, a foreign missionary who speaks with a strange accent.
*GigglingVillain: Mitsuhide
*GratuitousEnglish: Frequently used by Date Masamune. [[MemeticMutation PUT YA GUNS ON]] indeed.
*GunsAkimbo: Nouhime, and to some extent Zabii. Nouhime takes it to ridiculous extremes, however, pulling out machine guns, Gatling guns, and ROCKET LAUNCHERS [[VictoriasSecretCompartment from her skimpy kimono]]. And her Basara makes you wonder if she has an [[KillSat orbiting laser satellite]].
*GunsAreWorthless: In the game, Nouhime, the gun-user, is one of the weakest characters and Oda's shotgun is one of his weakest attacks, being weaker than his ''cape'' - although it's a very eeevil cape, which may explain it.
*HappilyMarried, SickeninglySweethearts: Toshiie and Matsu.
*HeroicSpirit: The series ''feeds'' on it!
*HighlyVisibleNinja: Kasuga. Hardly surprising.
*HistoricalHeroUpgrade: Everyone gets an upgrade. An UpToEleven-grade in fact.
** YourMileageMayVary though. Ieyasu seems to get Historical Hero Downgrade. Between being a JamesBondage extraordinare in the 2nd series and [[spoiler:unceremoniously killed]] in the anime, it's hard to call it 'Upgrade' for the eventual unifier of Japan...[[spoiler:[[TookALevelInBadass until the 3rd game]]]])
** HistoricalVillainUpgrade: Nobunaga and Mitsuhide of course...possibly also Nouhime.
** HistoricalBeautyUpdate: Chances are slim that the real, historical Masamune and Yukimura were the raging EstrogenBrigadeBait that they are here.
*HorseJump: Forget jumping, these horses can ''fly''!!
*HotBlooded: Yukimura. To a lesser degree, Shingen and Masamune.
--> '''Yukimura''': "My soul is on fire!"
*HoYay: Unlike the ''DynastyWarriors'' series which has a good share of both yaoi and straight doujins, SB is practically flooded with yaoi (with Masamune/Yukimura and Motochika/Motonari being the most popular) with the occasional Oichi/Kasuga hentai. Makes sense as ''Sengoku Basara'' doesn't put in enough women just for sex appeal.
** What's surprising is the lack of Nobunaga/Ranmaru yay, considering how Ranmaru is [[{{Uke}} gay]] everywhere else. Maybe they wanted to give the other characters a chance to be gay as well.
*** Maybe because Ranmaru looks about ten in this adaption?
**** Supposedly, beta testing of the arcade FightingGame was severely hampered by the fact that nothing but {{YaoiFangirl Yaoi Fangirls}} would show up to the location tests, and play nothing but the one or two characters they would constantly pit in their {{Shipping}} duels, and poorly at that. The "ugly" and female characters went untested, making the game largely an unbalanced mess.
*HumongousMecha: Honda Tadakatsu, probably the only HumongousMecha to ever exist in the Sengoku Era!
--> '''Ieyasu:''' "Honda Tadakatsu! Prepare for launch!"
*IdiotHero: Oh, Yukimura. Maybe all that getting punched in the head finally got to him...
*ImplacableMan: Honda Tadakatsu
*ImprobableWeaponUser: Pick a character. Any character...
*IncomingHam: The game is like a food fight in this regard, and the anime too. Masamune starts the show with his.
*IncurableCoughOfDeath: Hanbei
*InstantAwesomeJustAddMecha: Well it would still be awesome without Tadakatsu, but I mean COME ON!
*InstantFanClub: I-TSU-KI-CHAAAAANNNN!!!
*IWasQuiteALooker: Oda Nobunaga. Allow us to present [[http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-09/sb-oda-nobunaga2.html this image]] as evidence.
*JamesBondage: Tokugawa Ieyasu...er, I mean Matsudaira Takechiyo. Matsunaga Hisahide also tends to turn your squad into THIS trope.
*JapanesePronouns: And ''how''. Aside of the usual assortment of ''watashi'', ''washi'', ''watakushi'', and ''ore'', it includes such gems as ''soregashi'', ''sessha'' (Yukimura), ''maro'' (Imagawa), ''ware'' (Motonari) and ''yo'' (Nobunaga). Oichi, Matsu and sometimes Nouhime refer to themselves in the third person. Second-person pronouns are equally oddball, with the archaic ''onushi'' (Shingen), ''kiden'' (Nagamasa) and ''sonata'' being thrown around a lot alongside of ''anata'', ''omae'' and ''temee''.
*JapaneseHonorifics: Most notable is Yukimura who speaks quite archaically and extremely politely towards everyone, addressing them with the suffix '-dono' which is more polite than '-sama' and expresses great respect. He even speaks like this to Masamune's soldiers!)
** Yukimura calls Masamune '-dono' [[spoiler: but funny thing is he drops it after they become rivals again.]]
*JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Masamune, who's a great guy... once you get to know him that is.
*JustAStupidAccent: Arslan/Motochika and Puff/Itsuki in ''Devil Kings''. WTF was that all about?!
*JusticeWillPrevail: Azai Nagamasa, lover of justice!
*{{Keigo}} words like '-sama', '-dono' are almost everywhere.
** Yukimura is the most polite character in the series who speaks with an archaic version of {{Keigo}}.
*{{Kiai}}: Yukimura loves doing this.
*KilledMidSentence: Hideyoshi at the end of Nobunaga's campaign in the second game.
*[[spoiler:KilledOffForReal: Since ''3'' is much more true to history than the other games, it appears that characters like Nobunaga, Nagamasa, Mitsuhide and Hideyoshi, whose deaths are important to the new plot, are not coming back.]]
*LaResistance: [[RebelLeader Itsuki]] and the peasant revolt.
*LargeAndInCharge: Hideyoshi, Shingen
*TheLastDance: Hanbei's reason for wanting to help Hideyoshi take over Japan.
*{{Leitmotif}}: Most of the characters have some sort of theme associated with them, though mostly it's just their Stage theme. Oichi gets her own ImageSong.
*LightIsNotGood: Mouri Motonari. Child of the Sun? ''Yeah, right''...
*LoveFreak: Zabii, preacher of LOVE!
*LoveItOrHateIt: Poor Oichi.
*LuminescentBlush: [[http://www.wolfhurricane.com/images/screens/sengoku_basara/sengoku2_01.jpg Aaah...Kenshin-samaaa...]]♥
*{{Macekre}}: The game was called ''Devil Kings'' in the U.S, the producer attempting (and failing) to make a DarkerAndEdgier version.
*ManipulativeBastard: Hisahide. It's really no wonder he's called the "Villain of the Sengoku Era".
*MaskPower: Hanbei adds a cape to complete the look.
*MasterOfDisguise: Sasuke. During [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buOihgf8c7s Yukimura's training]], he helps out by disguising himself as "a friend of Sasuke" and letting Yukimura ([[IdiotHero who was completely fooled]]) beat the crap out of him. At one point he even transformed into Yukimura himself to fight his master head on!
*MegatonPunch, PunchedAcrossTheRoom: Shingen does this a lot to Yukimura.
*MightyGlacier: Hideyoshi, who is very big and has a lot of grappling moves...though he's surprisingly not quite so slow and yet doesn't quite qualify for LightningBruiser status. Shingen and Zabii play this trope straight.
*MisaimedFandom: Has about [[strike:twice]] three times as many female fans as it does male fans.
*MiyamotoMusashi
*MoralEventHorizon: Done regularly by the Oda, as well as the other villains.
*MoreDakka: Nouhime can pull out a minigun from under her skirt as a technique. In ''Sengoku Basara 2'' it can be upgraded to have a second barrel.
*MsFanservice: Kasuga
*TheMusical: [[http://www.capcom-fc.com/basara_info/2009/05/basara_7.html No, really.]]
** And the DVD is available in Japan now.
*NamesToKnowInAnime: Where do we START!?
**KazuyaNakai (Masamune)
**SoichiroHoshi (Yukimura)
**NorioWakamoto (Nobunaga)
**TakehitoKoyasu (Sasuke)
**MamikoNoto (Oichi)
**MasakazuMorita (Keiji)
**RyotaroOkiayu (Hideyoshi)
**AkiraIshida (Hanbei)
**DaisukeNamikawa (Musashi)
**RomiPaku (Kenshin)
**ToshiyukiMorikawa (Kojuuro)
**KeijiFujiwara (Hisahide)
**TomokazuSeki (Mitsunari)
**FumihikoTachiki (Yoshitsugu)
*NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Tiger of Kai, War God of Echigo, One-Eyed Dragon, Demon King etc.
*TheNeidermeyer: Motonari, a rare example of an effective and likable Neidermeyer.
*NietzscheWannabe: Hisahide, especially in the anime.
*{{Ninja}}: Sasuke, Kasuga, Fuuma
*ObviouslyEvil: Nobunaga, Mitsuhide...just look at them!
*OdaNobunaga: Depicted as ObviouslyEvil complete with SpikesOfVillainy aplenty and lots of...
*OminousLatinChanting
*PeekABangs: Mitsuhide
*PigeonholedVoiceActor: Let's just say, whoever chose the voice cast for this game knew to pick voice actors by role - about the only one ''lacking'' is NobuyukiHiyama.
** ...Who already plays [[TheNapoleon Masamune]] and [[ChaoticEvil Kotaro]] in SamuraiWarriors.
** SoichiroHoshi, however, might be PlayingAgainstType, since his more known type is the likes of [[GundamSEED Kira Yamato]]. They probably know Kazuma of ''{{Scryed}}''.
*{{Pirate}}: Motochika, complete with PirateParrot.
*PlayingWithFire: Any HotBlooded character or anyone packing firepower.
*PowerFloats: The SB characters laugh in the face of gravity.
*PowerGlows: The more the characters power up, the more brightly they glow.
*[[PreAsskickingOneLiner Pre Asskicking One Liners]]
*PsychoForHire: Mitsuhide
*PsychoSupporter: Nouhime. And why?! Nobunaga doesn't even like her.
*RedOniBlueOni: Masamune as the Blue Oni, Yukimura as the Red Oni. The Shingen/Kenshin rivalry also sorta counts (with Shingen as Red Oni, Kenshin as Blue Oni.)
*RefugeInAudacity
*TheRival: Masamune/Yukimura, Shingen/Kenshin, Sasuke/Kasuga, Motonari/Motochika, to name a few.
*RuleOfCool: And how! The whole franchise follows this rule!
*SarutobiSasuke: Our favourite wise-cracking [[{{Ninja}} ninja]].
*SayMyName: Used for humor, but technically one-sided, because the other one doesn't say the name...
-->'''Shingen''': ''"Yukimura!!"''
-->'''Yukimura''': ''"Oyakata-sama!!"''
-->'''Shingen''': '''''"Yukimura!!!"'''''
-->'''Yukimura''': '''''"Oyakata-sama!!!"'''''
-->'''Shingen''': '''''"YUKIMURA!!!!"'''''
-->'''Yukimura''': '''''"OYAKATA-SAMA!!!!"'''''
-->''And so on...''
** '''"TADAKATSUUUUUUU!!!!!"'''
*ShockAndAwe: Masamune, Kojuurou
*ShoutOut: The characters can wield weapons from the first ''DevilMayCry'' game, with Masamune wielding six Alastors, Yukimura DualWielding Sparda and Nouhime using Ebony and Ivory.
** Also Tadakatsu is a blatant shoutout to {{Gundam}}.
*SinisterScythe: Mitsuhide
*TheSmurfettePrinciple: In the spinoff fighting game, the only female main fighter is Oichi. Kasuga, Nouhime and Matsu are limited to support only, and Itsuki doesn't appear at all.
*SpikesOfVillainy: Nobunaga and Mitsuhide.
*TheStarscream: Mitsuhide
*StartOfDarkness: Hideyoshi in Keiji's Gaiden.
*StraightArrow: Ranmaru
*SwordAndGun: Nobunaga pulls this off with a SawnOffShotgun.
*[[SwordBeam Sword Beams]]
*TearJerker: [[spoiler:The deaths of Nagamasa and Oichi, particularly in the anime]]. For the game, just try and play Oichi's story mode.
*TechnicalPacifist: Keiji. He may not like violence, but if forced he has a {{BFS}} and he knows how to use it!
*TestosteronePoisoning
*ThisIsADrill: Tadakatsu's Tonbogiri [[TengenToppaGurrenLagann will be the drill-spear that pierces the heavens!]]
*ThisIsYourPremiseOnDrugs: SamuraiWarriors on crack...lots of crack.
*TokenLoli: Itsuki
*TookALevelInBadass: Motochika's premise. [[spoiler:In the 3rd game, Ieyasu finally grows up and becomes one of the main focuses of the game.]]
*ToyShip: Itsuki and Ranmaru, who are both about 10 years old.
*TrainingFromHell: Yukimura seems to believe that all the punching and shouting Shingen puts him through is a ''form of training''.
*{{Tsundere}}: Nagamasa is a male example.
*VideogameHistoricalRevisionism: ''Major'' revisionism...
*ViewerGenderConfusion: Kenshin. It doesn't help that [[CrossDressingVoices his voice actor is a woman]].
*TheVoiceless: Tadakatsu, Fuuma
*WalkingShirtlessScene: Yukimura and Motochika. [[{{Fanservice}} Can't imagine why...]]
*WarriorMonk: Kenshin, maybe Zabii too.
*WellIntentionedExtremist: Despite his cruel, ruthless attitude and methods, Hideyoshi wants to shape Japan into a strong, prospering nation.
*WhipSword: Hanbei's weapon.
*WhiteHairedPrettyBoy: Mitsuhide, Hanbei, Motochika, [[spoiler:Ishida Mitsunari]]
** As weird as it sounds, the manga turned Masamune into a WhiteHairedPrettyBoy. Kojuurou also became a total {{Bishounen}}. [[http://myanimelist.net/manga/7195/Sengoku_Basara_Ranse_Ranbu/pic&pid=9675 Just look!]]
*** That's because that manga is based off the first game, in which Kojuurou ''is'' a pretty boy.
*WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: Nobunaga, Hideyoshi
*TheWoobie, {{Yandere}}: Oichi. Her campaign in ''Heroes'' basically depicts her [[spoiler:finally taken over by [[TheDarkSide her dark powers]] after Nagamasa is killed and going on a [[KillEmAll creepy, murderous rampage]] (complete with EvilLaugh) against her brother, who brought it upon himself (proudly)]] with a [[TearJerker/{{Videogames}} tragic fate]] topped by a [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcWhR22m3Ho tragic song]]. She occupies much the same role in the anime.
*WoodenKatanasAreEvenBetter: Did someone say [[MiyamotoMusashi Musashi]]?!
*WorldOfBadass: Where even the ''horses'' are BadAss.
*WorldOfHam: Everything is done in as Epic and as RatedMForManly way as possible.
*WorthyOpponent: Masamune/Yukimura, Kenshin/Shingen.
!!The AnimeOfTheGame includes examples of:
*AbsurdlySharpBlade
*AnimationBump: The animation seems to change a little every single episode.
*AnyoneCanDie: [[spoiler:Safe to say that if you're not named 'Date Masamune', 'Sanada Yukimura' or 'Maeda Keiji', then just be ready to get killed under the banner of Oda. This may as well take a jump to [[KillEmAll the other territority]]]].
* ApologizesALot: In the anime, it is eventually revealed ''why'' Oichi thinks [[SorryIFellOnYourFist everything is her fault]]. Turns out [[spoiler:Nobunaga married Oichi to Nagamasa to act as TheMole in preparation for an eventual attack on the Asakura and Azai clans. She [[BecomingTheMask really fell in love with Nagamasa]] and was trying to strengthen their bond, ''knowing'' the entire time that her brother was planning to kill Nagamasa all along]].
*BattleAura: All the time. Takeda even disintegrates an opponent in a giant wave of BattleAura, in what may be a ShoutOut to [[spoiler:Kittan's death]] in ''TengenToppaGurrenLagann''.
*BattleInTheRain: Episodes 2, 3 and 9
*BeamOWar: Happens '''a lot'''. Particularly between Masamune and Yukimura.
*BigNo: Episode 9, courtesy of Kasuga.
* CallOnMe: Subverted. After Sasuke realizes he can't stop Kasuga from trying to pull a one-woman RoaringRampageOfRevenge on Nobunaga, he instead gives her a flute and tells her to blow it should she find herself in danger. When the time ''does'' come to use it, [[spoiler:it turns into a ''rocket-powered glider'' instead of summoning the other ninja]].
-->'''Kasuga:''' I thought ''you'' were supposed to appear when I blew into it.
-->'''Sasuke:''' Well, that's obviously impossible. But hey, I'm here now!
*CoolHorse: Masamune's infamous Harley Davidson Motor-Horse.
*CrowningMomentOfFunny: Episode 5: [[EliteMook Naoe Kanetsugu]] getting WTFPWN'D by Tadakatsu.
*CrowningMusicOfAwesome: The anime soundtrack.
*CueTheSun: Happens twice. The first time is in Episode 1 when Yukimura and Masamune battle each other to a standstill. The second is Episode 12, after [[spoiler:Nobunaga is finally defeated]].
*DancingTheme: The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrAvrK5s3_k OP]]
*DeadlyClosingCredits: Episodes 5 and 11.
*DespairEventHorizon: Episode 10. Until [[spoiler:Masamune]] comes along. [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome Then it's a different matter.]]
*DiabolusExMachina: Does the anime loves this or what?
*DramaticThunder: Whenever Nobunaga is on the scene.
*DramaticWind: Where would we be without it?
*DucksInARow: Takes this one further by introducing the ''entire cast'' in the first episode!
*EliteMooks: Four of Date's retainers (Bunshichi, Yoshinao, Samenosuke, and the fat one) get quite a lot of attention in the anime.
*EmpathicEnvironment
*EnemyMine: Kenshin, Shingen and a reluctant Masamune form a temporary alliance against BigBad Nobunaga. The theory is that with him out of the way, they can be free to fight amongst themselves.
*EyeScream: In Episode 12, when Nobunaga has Masamune cornered, he torments the poor boy by threatening to gouge out his other eyeball ''with his [[{{Squick}} finger]]''.
*FacePalm: Sasuke, whenever Yukimura does something [[IdiotHero particularly stupid]].
*FoeTossingCharge: Seriously, this is the only reason those {{Mooks}} exist at all...
*FoeYay: While the games were rife with this, the anime practically makes it ''canon''. Of particular note is the moment in the fourth episode when, after Yukimura declares his desire to fight Masamune again, Sasuke comments that it:
--> '''Sasuke''': "Looks like you've fallen for him. And he for you".
*GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Sasuke hauls off and slaps Kasuga in Episode 10.
** Later on in the same episode, Masamune is forced to beat some sense into Yukimura after he becomes too scared to fight.
*GlowingEyesOfDoom: Shingen, as well as Masamune when he [[BloodKnight gets excited]].
*HeroicBSOD: Yukimura has one after [[spoiler:Mitsuhide wounds Shingen badly enough that his survival is questionable]], which he blames himself for not being able to prevent. Only a manly RousingSpeech from both Masamune and Kojuuro is able to snap him out of it.
*HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Honda Tadakatsu]]. ''Twice''.
*HollywoodHealing: Subverted with a gunshot wound Masamune obtains in the anime, which renders him bed-ridden for two episodes and [[spoiler:serves as a major handicap in the FinalBattle]].
*HonorBeforeReason: This trope basically explains why Nagamasa and Ieyasu remain allies of Nobunaga despite being an [[ObviouslyEvil Obviously]] EvilOverlord.)
*HumanShield: Mitsuhide attempts to use [[spoiler:Ranmaru as one against [[WouldntHurtAChild Kojuurou]]. It doesn't work. Kojuurou just throws Ranmaru out of the way and kicks Mitsuhide's ass]].
*LeaveHimToMe: [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome Kojuurou vs Mitsuhide]], Episode 12.
*LightningReveal: How Nobunaga makes his anime appearance.
*LoveAtFirstSight: Masamune and Yukimura's first meeting can be described as nothing but this. Afterwards, Yukimura even ''falls to his knees'' and tells Sasuke that he has a funny feeling in his chest:
--> '''Yukimura''': "It burns"
--> '''Sasuke''': "What?"
--> '''Yukimura''': "My heart...it burns. Such force of will. Such fighting spirit. Such strength!"
--> '''Sasuke''': "Did you burn yourself?"
*MauveShirt: Those four Date soldiers who are kidnapped in Episodes 7 and 8.
*MoodWhiplash: Episode 5: After that CrowningMomentOfFunny above, we're presented with...[[spoiler:Nagamasa's dramatically tragic death, all to [[BreakTheCutie make Oichi suffer]]]].
** And in the very next episode, [[spoiler:Tadakatsu goes BOOM, much to Ieyasu's despair.]]
*NeckLift: Nobunaga does this in the last episode. Masamune must weigh about as much as a bag of sugar.
*NeverTrustATrailer: "[[spoiler:The Tiger of Kai Dies at Midaigawa]]," my ass!
*NoOneCouldSurviveThat: Notice that the smoking black crater where [[spoiler:Honda]] used to be is suspiciously lacking a dead body at its center...
** Also, Kenshin gets [[spoiler:shot ''twice'' in the chest by Nouhime and lives to fight again]]. Sengoku Era medicine must be very good.
*NoOneGetsLeftBehind: After Hisahide [[spoiler:kidnaps his men, Masamune is determined to rescue them, despite being wounded]], on the grounds that the Date Army can't afford to lose anyone.
*NothingButSkulls: Nobunaga's throne is made up of a pile of skulls in the anime. He even uses one for a cup.
*NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler:Tadakatsu]]
*ObviousTrap: In Episode 11 Masamune decides to walk into Nobunaga's trap, confident that he'll be able to figure something out once he gets there and kick butt. It turns out that the trap was [[spoiler:actually set for Mitsuhide]].
*OneHitKill: Shingen [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomping]] Hojo in Episode 2 with his [[IncendiaryExponent flaming fist]] [[KillItWithFire attack]].
*PostDramaticStressDisorder: Masamune is miles away from the battlefield before anyone even ''realizes'' that [[spoiler:he was shot in the side after the fight with Nagamasa]].
*TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Nobunaga spends a good ten minutes informing Masamune and Yukimura how foolish they are for thinking they could defeat him. [[spoiler:Naturally, they defeat him]].
*RivalsTeamUp: [[spoiler:Episode 12, when everyone comes together for the FinalBattle against Nobunaga]]
*RousingSpeech: '''"PSYCHE UP GUYS!!!!"'''
*SceneryPorn
*ShirtlessScene: Masamune received a rather [[{{Fanservice}} obligatory]] shirtless scene in Episode 8, much to the [[EstrogenBrigade viewers delight]]. The writers probably thought that with Yukimura going round [[WalkingShirtlessScene half-naked all the time]], they should give Masamune a chance to be shirtless as well (not to mention improve their ratings.)
*SparklingStreamOfTears: Oichi and Ieyasu do this [[spoiler:as they cry for Nagamasa and Tadakatsu, respectively]].
*StuffBlowingUp: Oh ''hell'' yes.
*SuperDeformed: Mini Sengoku Basara: Chousokabe-kun and Mouri-kun. One night, Motochika invites Motonari over for a [[strike:sleepover]] drink, and they decide to watch the anime together. HilarityEnsues. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHua6mGPe5s&feature=related See here.]]
*SwordLimbo: Mitsuhide does this during his fight against the two heroes in Episode 11.
*SwordSparks: Complete with ''[[AudibleSharpness Shakeen!]]''
*WhatDoYouMeanItsNotAwesome: So many to count, but most prevalent would be Shingen using two horses to ride to the battlefield, all while standing up, each foot stepping on each saddle. And he can get the horses to ''run on walls''.
** Speaking of horses, Yukimura rides only one, but to dodge bullets, he stabs the ground with one spear and spins around it, ''while still riding the horse''.
** Masamune rides without handlebars. On a [[CoolHorse motorbike-horse]]. He's that cool.
*WhatDoYouMeanItsNotSymbolic: One of Uesugi Kenshin's nicknames was "Dragon of Echigo". His main rival in SB is Takeda Shingen the "Tiger of Kai". In Ancient Chinese mythology, the dragon and the tiger are depicted as bitter rivals, however their strength is evenly matched and neither is able to defeat the other. Coincidence? [[ThereAreNoCoincidences I THINK NOT!]] Incidentally, Sanada Yukimura is referred to as the "Young Tiger", and ''his'' rival happens to be the "One-Eyed Dragon" Date Masamune. In Episode 12 of the anime, leading up to the FinalBattle, a [[ColourCodedForYourConvenience blue dragon and a red tiger]] can be seen flying through the sky above our young heroes, guiding them to their destination.
*WhatWereYouThinking: What Takeda asks Yukimura after learning that [[spoiler:Yukimura let Kojuurou (who, along with Masamune, was under their care) confront Hisahide alone and with only half of the demanded ransom]]. [[DopeSlap He did not like the answer he got]].
*WorthyOpponent: A conversation between Shingen and Kenshin in the anime implies that the two of them collaborated to arrange for Masamune and Yukimura to meet in battle specifically in the hopes that the two of them would become {{Worthy Opponent}}s.
*YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: When Oichi tells Nobunaga that she has [[spoiler:accidentally killed his wife]], Nobunaga calmly responds by saying that [[spoiler:a woman like Nouhime can only go so far]]. He then [[spoiler:[[MoralEventHorizon kills Oichi]] for the same reason]].)
** And this is after he has already [[spoiler:sent Mitsuhide to die against the heroes by giving both him and them a false location of his stronghold. Though to be fair, Mitsuhide was going there to kill him as well.]]
*YouFailHistoryForever: No one dies in the historically correct time, place or way. Also, everything else is just wrong. But hey, RuleOfCool is God.
