[[caption-width-right:300:{{Cute Monster Girl}}s, comes [[HornyDevils in]] [[OurVampiresAreDifferent four]] [[CuteWitch different]] [[AnIcePerson flavours]]!]]
Tsukune Aono's an OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent, as they all are. Then, completely by accident, he gets accepted to a school where {{yokai}} attend and are taught how to be human. Before he gets to school, he has a run-in with Moka Akashiya, who sucks his blood. Other than being a little light-headed, Tsukune now finds out he has a [[MagicalGirlfriend girlfriend]]. Thing is, every guy on campus is ''also'' after her. Fortunately, he's the only one who can remove Moka's rosary around her neck, turning her into a powerful, super-vampire, albeit changing Moka into an utter [[DefrostingIceQueen ice queen]]. As a member of the school's newspaper club, he's also surrounded by a harem of {{cute monster girl}}s; life just got a lot more interesting.
While the manga starts off as a harmless MonsterOfTheWeek, it slowly becomes DarkerAndEdgier. One of the two major recurring issues is humans are forbidden in the [[AnotherDimension monster realm]]. This is originally more of a precaution, though the [[AbsurdlyPowerfulStudentCouncil Public Safety Commission]] has reinterpreted the mandate to be an instant death sentence for any [[MistakenForSpies "filthy human spies"]] they find. The second is [[spoiler:Tsukune's newfound SuperMode isn't as side-effect free as he and Moka think. Once he borrows Moka's vampiric blood, it starts leaving residue. The effect is [[BodyHorror he slowly becomes]] a sort of [[UnstoppableRage berserker]] human-vampire hybrid called a "ghoul". Tsukune actually has to get his own [[PowerLimiter rosary]] [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity just to maintain his day-to-day sanity]]]].
The first season of manga ran for 10 volumes in Japan, with the second underway. The series is also being published in America. An anime adaptation aired in early 2008, and a second [[OddlyNamedSequel season]] titled ''Rosario + Vampire [=Capu2=]'' aired later in the year.
----
This series contains examples of:
* AbsurdlyPowerfulStudentCouncil -- The "Public Safety Commission" was originally a good, necessary institution that suffered heavily from MotiveDecay. Now they're comparable to the {{yakuza}} who abuse their literal license to kill
* AdaptationDecay -- By ignoring the second major theme of the manga and focusing instead on a harem comedy, swapping and rearranging chapters at will (see the fight with [[spoiler:Ruby Toujo]] and the early introduction of Mizore Shirayuki), and sticking [[PantyShot panty shots up the ass]], it managed to rub many fans the wrong way. Still, hearing AyaHisakawa as a sadistic math teacher almost makes it all worth it
** YourMileageMayVary this troper liked the anime even before reading the manga he found it decent dispite the lack/altering of stuff from the manga and still likes it even after reading the manga, Some of the anime stuff was so funny that it made up for the decay from the manga seriously stuff like Curry Zombies (no really curry zombies) just made this troper highly amused.
* AdultChild -- Shizuka Nekonome-sensei
* AlmostKiss -- [[OverusedRunningGag A LOONNNG running gag]]
* AnIcePerson -- Mizore
* AngelsPose -- During the second season, one is performed by Moka, Kokoa Shuzen and Ruby [[http://www.onemanga.com/Rosario-Vampire_II/12/04-05/ here]]
* AnimeHair -- Several examples, but the best is probably Mizore's hairstyle in her introductory arc
* AnotherDimension -- Where the Yokai Academy's located. It takes any tunnel and the CreepyMonotone-spouting non-human bus driver to bridge our world and theirs
* ArrangedMarriage -- Mizore being forced to it by the snow priestess
* ArtEvolution -- Early and later issues of the manga might as well have been drawn by different people; compare [[http://www.onemanga.com/Rosario-Vampire/2/04/ this]] with [[http://www.onemanga.com/Rosario-Vampire_II/16/06/ this]], but really, it's...
** No surprise, given that ''Rosario + Vampire'' is Akihisa Ikeda's very first manga. His art style barely beginning to be established when the manga started, so naturally it looks different five years later.
* ArtShift -- Character appearances have noticeably shifted in the manga, particularly Tsukune. In the beginning, he was short and slim, with short, slightly-thick limbs and no special definition to his form. By the current arc, he's a card-carrying {{bishounen}}, perhaps as a reflection of his [[spoiler:ghoul nature]]
* AsideGlance -- Kurumu Kurono appears to have gained awareness of the fourth wall in the anime; everyone else is oblivious
* AxCrazy -- The MonsterOfTheWeek; after all, they ''are'' monsters, and are neither known for civility nor self-control
* BerserkerTears -- Kalua Shuzen
* BewareTheNiceOnes -- Shun-senpai. Holy shit, [[MusicalAssasin Shun-]][[BrownNote senpai]]
* BiTheWay - Yukari is the only one in the harem who's actually rooting for Tsukune and Moka to get together... because she feels this will make it easier for ''her'' to get with ''both'' of them.
* BishieSparkle -- Ginei "Gin" Morioka
* BishonenLine -- Kuyou's final hybrid form
** Subverted to Hell and back by most other villains. The king would have to be [[spoiler:Hokuto Kaneshiro]], who starts off the bishonen, but his final form can only be described as [[OneWingedAngel "a big, horrible thing"]]
* BoardingSchool
* BodyHorror -- Tsukune's afraid he might turn into a vampire by taking Moka's blood; likewise, her true self informs him it won't happen. [[spoiler:Turns out she was wrong. Oops!]]
** Actually, this happened because [[spoiler: Moka infused vampire blood INTO Tsukune to save his life, which had the unexpected side effect of infusing some of her vampiric powers into him.]]
* BoobsOfSteel -- Animated Moka's breasts go up a couple of cup sizes whenever she transforms into a super-vampire
* BookDumb
--> '''Mizore:''' "What's the difference between addition and subtraction?"
* CatchPhrase -- "Inner" Moka's "Know your place!", guaranteed to be delivered with every kick
** In ''Capu2'', even Ruby gets one: "A lot of things happened" as an explaination of her ever-changing jobs. She becomes sad when Moka [[CatchphraseInterruptus beats her to it]] in episode nine
** In the manga, the new character Ling-Ling Wong (Sister of Fong-Fong) is a zombie, and uses "Because I am dead" (which is not saying much in a school of monsters) to excuse herself for any troubles she causes. Doubles almost as a ShoutOut if she says "Because I am [[FistOfTheNorthStar already dead.]]"
* CatGirl -- Nekonome-sensei
* CensorBox -- Nazo Koumori, the bat, doubles as a censor when he needs to
* CerebusSyndrome -- The manga plays this HARD: it begins almost completely comedy-driven, with Tsukune the gag-hero in a typical harem-style setup. Then Mizore comes along as the first character with a serious, non-gag-driven plot arc comprising her introduction. Ruby's introduction during the Witch War arc doesn't pull any of the punches either. Now that we've hit the second manga serialization, we're getting really serious with the whole Fairy Tale organization
** To put it in better terms, the second manga takes the light-hearted UnwantedHarem, MonsterOfTheWeek format from the first, feeds it strychnine, stabs it in the face, beats it with a claw hammer and buries the corpse in an unassuming corn field on the edge of town
*** Except that the most recent chapters have it wandering back into town, mysteriously healed and wondering aloud what just happened ...
* CharmPerson -- Kotaro Ijuuin, a mysterious {{bishounen}} transfer student whose voice can captivate any woman...and [[EvenTheGuysWantHim some men]]. The only person it doesn't work on is [[spoiler:Kokoa, because Kotaro's none other than Nazo taking human form to toy with the school for a day]]
**Also Kurumu and [[InformedAbility Moka and Kokoa]]
* ChivalrousPervert -- Gin. Also [[{{Lolicon}} Haiji]].
* ChickMagnet -- Tsukune, since female monsters are attracted to him for both his compassion and sweet, sweet human scent.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass -- Kurumu, although completely overshadowed by Inner Moka is surprisingly formidable if you threaten someone she cares about. [[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/rosario_vampire_season_ii/v04/c017/17.html Certainly Kokoa seems impressed]] as indeed does [[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/rosario_vampire/v02/c007/42.html Inner Moka]]
* CuteMonsterGirl -- The whole school's littered with them...well, the the female half, anyway
* ClingyJealousGirl -- Several, but most notably Yukari Sendo and Kurumu
* CreepyCoolCrosses -- The rosaries
* CrowningMomentOfAwesome -- In the manga, [[spoiler:Tsukune's ghoul form fully awakens and stops a hybrid monster that almost kills him and "Inner" Moka with [[http://www.onemanga.com/Rosario-Vampire/23/08-09/ one punch]]. Too bad that WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity and he goes nuts afterwards]]
** In the most recent arc, [[spoiler: Gin pulling off a Xanatos Gambit to get to the "Fairy Tale" headquarters and then beating seven kinds of crap out of the member he tricked. Then deciding to take out the ''entire'' organization when he finds out they threatened Sun, who he considers the most important person in the world to him.]]
*** Don't forget Haiji. Yes, Haiji. The Karate Captain who you thought was a throwaway joke character? He shows up when Gin calls. He also happens to know Sun-sempai. He's also quite irritated that people have threatened her. By the time he shows up, the duo don't even have to try to take apart the enemies and they're growing quite bored of the whole thing. And the kicker? Sun was the strongest ayashi of her generation, which she quite handily demonstrates to the leader of Fairy Tale.
** Tsukune gets one during his [[spoiler: rescue of Sun and Moka. His confidence is destroyed because Inner Moka tells him how much he sucks at fighting and that he'll just get in the way. Later on, while easily dodging knife stabs and bullets, Tsukune realizes that he only sucks compared to Inner Moka. And basically ''everybody'' sucks compared to Inner Moka.]]
***It wasn't so much that he was a bad fighter, it was just that he lacked confidence and aggression, which he quickly got over when Moka was in danger. In fact, physically speaking, Tsukune is probably stronger than Moka, and is not affected by normal vampire weaknesses.
* CrowningMomentOfFunny -- Gin and Haiji show up [[spoiler: after annihilating the entire Fairy Tale headquarters]] covered in blood. When Kurumu asks why they're covered in blood, Gin reintroduces Haiji. When the (relevant) question is asked again, Haiji states that they were just shopping and deflects the question by creeping on Kokoa.
* CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming -- In the second manga, wherin Kurumu [[spoiler:saves an emotionally destroyed Mizore, who's forcefully kissed in a thankfully unsuccessful AttemptedRape and attempts suicide by jumping out a window. She lovingly kisses the snow girl and asks her with tears in her eyes "a kiss can be nice too, can't it?" The two embraced like sisters while Mizore cries her fear out in Kurumu's arms]]
** This troper thinks the above is a Crowning Moment of LesYay
*** This troper thinks it could also qualify, at least briefly, for SchoolgirlLesbians
** Likewise, this troper thinks it doubles as a CrowningMomentOfAwesome for both Kurumu and the series in general
* CuteWitch -- Little Yukari
* DancingTheme -- ''Capu2'' opening "DISCOTHEQUE"; it's ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin
* DarkMagicalGirl -- Ruby
* DefeatMeansFriendship -- Notice how every girl in the harem after Moka wanted to kill Tsukune before she literally kicks the living daylights out of them? And Gin too?
* DefrostingIceQueen -- Inner Moka, not that she's willing to ''admit'' warming up to Tsukune. She insists she only tolerates him for Outer Moka's sake ... but when somebody hurts him ... ''[[http://www.onemanga.com/Rosario-Vampire/10/30/ while he was defending her....]]''
* {{Delinquents}} -- Almost all hybrid Yokai (localized as "Monstrels") are practically the resident delinquents, but Moka and Kokoa send just as much terror down the spines of the most troublesome gang leaders, more specifically, the "inner" Moka.
* {{Determinator}} -- Tsukune; long before [[spoiler:he gets his PowerUp]], after ridiculously severe beatings, he absolutely refuses to lay down and die like anyone can reasonably be expected to. Of course, then, there's his chance to get Moka's rosary off...
* EmergencyTransformation -- What's that Lassie? Little [[spoiler:Tsukune]] fell in a well? *Bite* [[spoiler:Ghoul Tsukune saves the day!]]
* EnsembleDarkhorse -- The bus driver; for some reason, lots of fans think he's really cool.
** He has glowing eyes, always has his cigar and can drive his bus anywhere. How is that ''not'' really cool?
** As is Mizore, for [[strike:this]] a lot of tropers.
** After the way she [[spoiler:rescues Mizore]] in the second manga, Kurumu immediately shot up to the top of this troper's "I would marry her" list.
** Gin has been involved in a lot more action recently. Probably because Tsukune's recent upgrade to Bishie status didn't quite fill the Bishounen quota for the female readers.
* EroticDream -- Tsukune gets one (of [[spoiler:Inner Moka]], to the delight of many fans) prior to his TrainingFromHell, but Kurumu fantasizes on seducing him during class.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim -- It's finally happened: Tsukune's got a [[{{Bishounen}} dude]] after him. [[spoiler:Said dude, Won Fanfan, also happens to be the son of a Chinese {{Youkai}} mafia boss.]]
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep -- The bus driver. Correct this troper if he's wrong, but the guy never seems to get a name.
** This troper can't recall the School Chairman being given a name either.
*** He does; he is the "Exorcist," one of the three demon lords, and in this troper's opinion also the bus driver. (yes, I know they have been seen together, but he's a demon lord; like that's gonna stop him)
* {{Expy}} -- While his goal and background are quite different, [[spoiler:Hokuto]] definitely brings to mind [[DeathNote Light Yagami]]. There's some visual resemblance, his plan is built around a massive XanatosGambit, and he even uses a couple of Light's better-known lines.
* ExtranormalInstitute
* [[FanNickname/{{Anime}} Fan Nickname]] -- "Daddy Starbucks" for Moka and her sisters' unseen and unnamed father, given the family ThemeNaming
* {{Fanservice}} -- To a minor degree in the manga version, but goes to a considerabe lengths in the anime
* FemmeFatale -- Kurumu, before joining the harem
* FemmeFatalons -- Part of Kurumu's power set
* FingerTwiddling
* FirstGirlWins -- Moka's the only girl who Tsukune actively demonstrates any desire for. Technically, this could be a case of LastGirlWins at the same time, given the fact Tsukune doesn't meet "Inner" Moka long enough to talk with her until much later, especially with the growing hints that [[spoiler:eventually it's going to be "Inner" Moka all the time. But since technically both Mokas are the same person...]]
* {{Flanderization}} -- Kurumu's character is much more noble in the manga: in spite of her love for Tsukune, she also loves her rivals in the harem like sisters and staunchly supports them with warm kindness in their hours of need. Her kind-hearted character is replaced by the bitchiness stereotypical "flirty" character in the anime, making her far less sympathetic
** There's an apparent inversion with some serious character development in the second manga:
*** Kurumu develops from GagBoobs girl to [[spoiler:someone who's tortured inside by the love she has for Tsukune but hides it with her external cheerfulness and who deeply cares about her friends]]
*** Mizori goes from {{yandere}} stalker to [[spoiler:{{kuudere}} with an absolutely tragic back-story, unwanted arranged marriage, attempted rape and attempted suicide from the shame of thinking she's betrayed her friends from being violated and some seriously repressed emotional baggage]]
*** TokenLoli Yukari frets over [[spoiler:being the TokenLoli and wants to grow up like everyone else, to the point that she tries to develop a "grow older" potion]]
*** Moka [[spoiler:appears as if she is losing control to "Inner" Moka, who doesn't seem to be so ready to give up control as often]]
*** Even Gin, the HandsomeLech gets his by [[spoiler:taking the fall for an ex-girlfriend who's suspected of causing damaging "pranks" to other students for reasons he doesn't seem willing to admit even to himself. In the present arc, he plays a XanatosGambit, pretending to get captured so he could find out more information about the "Fairy Tale" group that's threatening the Newspaper Club, then proceeds to beat his captive and make a threat of his own if they ever mess with his friends again. And in the most recent chapter, is attempting to take down ''all'' of "Fairy Tale" (and he's already off to a good start, dismantling the entire 7th Branch) for the simple reason that they threatened Sun, who he considers the most important person to him]]. Whoo! Talk about an inversion...
* FourIsDeath -- In episode 4 of the anime, Tsukune arrives at the bus stop at 4:44 pm and is attacked by rivals for Moka's love. Later, 4:44 pm is the scheduled time for [[spoiler:his execution after he's discovered for being human]]. There's also something to be said for Moka having three sisters, meaning four kids in the family
* FreudianExcuse -- Hokuto has one of these: [[spoiler:My father beats me and monsters at school beat me as well, so I must destroy the world and recreate it in my image!]]
* FriendlyNeighborhoodVampires -- Moka. Inner Moka and Kokoa, not so much. Kahlua, being quite insane, is a mixed bag in this regard.
* GagBoobs -- Kurumu. Hers are G-cups.
* {{Gainaxing}} -- ''Kurumu''; my, do they jiggle
* GenerationXerox -- In ''Capu2'', Kurumu and Mizore's rivalry over Tsukune echoes that of their mothers' over a male student during their time at the academy. Neither won and the guy turns out as a {{Gonk}} over the years
* GorgeousGorgon
* GuiltyPleasures -- To quote WeirdAlYankovic's "Jerry Springer": ''Once you start watching there's just no stopping, your brain shuts down and your IQ's dropping''
* HandsomeLech -- Gin
* HeyItsThatVoice -- Mizore is voiced by {{Rie Kugimiya}}. This troper literally laughed out loud when he found out.
** Kuyo, the SmugSnake from the Student Police, [[ShuichiIkeda he is A CHAR]].
* HighPressureBlood -- Used most often in a gags, usually one where Kurumu hits Tsukune with a MarshmallowHell, only for Mizore to hit Kurumu in the head with a kunai formed of ice. The next panel shows the kunai popping free, complete with lots of blood. Appears in other gags, as well
* HonorBeforeReason -- Kurumu when competing for Tsukune's affections. She absolutely will not exploit anything that would give her a chance to win viewing it as unfair - one of her most endearing and, sadly, tragic traits.
* HornyDevils -- Kurumu (and her mother Ageha)
** They ''are'' succubi
* HotShounenMom -- Kurumu and Mizore's mothers; the anime also reveals Mizore has a HotShoujoDad...at least once he takes off the Yeti mask. ''Don't ask''
* HoYay - Fong-Fong Wong want him Tsukune "work for him permanently".
* IdiotPlot -- Too often, Tsukune and/or his harem have a moment where they go off and do something plain dumb, only to get into loads of trouble. This is followed by an apology...until it happens again, in the next chapter. It seems to be fading as the story goes on, however.
* ImageSong -- A good portion of episode 5 is devoted to showing off Kurumu and Yukari's. The other girls have their songs inserted in, too
* InstantFanClub -- Moka, Kurumu and Yukari have three rather lame fanboys in the first season, but by the second season, they've developed large, screaming, mostly ''female'' fanclubs
** Then again, it's perhaps due to them having made a name for themselves after the end of first year.
* KissOfTheVampire -- "Kapuchuu~"
** Hilariously, the manga as translated for dead-tree gives the sound effect as a loud "Chomp!"
* LesYay -- The aforementioned fanclubs, Yukari's crush on Moka ([[strike:before]] even after she joins the harem) and in the manga, [[spoiler:in order to show Mizore a kiss isn't a scary thing, Kurumu decides to lay one on her - ''in midair'']].
** Let's not forget Yukari and Kokoa's [[http://www.onemanga.com/Rosario-Vampire_II/7/28/ little moment]] after Kokoa takes the "growing drops" in the manga.
* LiteralSplitPersonality -- The Lilith Mirror splits Moka into two separate beings, yet to Kokoa's disappointment, they must rejoin.
* LoadBearingBoss -- At least in [[spoiler:the last episode of ''Capu2''; every time Moka's father leaves the castle, it collapses (also mentioned offhand)]]
* {{Lolicon}} -- Yukari
* LovableSexManiac -- Gin, who wants to grope one of the girls at any chance he gets and Yukari (her stated plans involve her, Moka, Tsukune and a bed).
** Heavily subverted with Kurumu; despite her pretenses of sexual confidence and aggressiveness (coupled with HornyDevils), she's very chaste and pure-hearted with endearingly innocent views on love.
*** Did you forget those daydreams...? ''cough''
*** Kurumu's mother even mentions that her daughter is too innocent for a succubus, and gives Tsukune permission to "jump" her.
* LoveBubbles
* MadArtist -- Hitomi Ishigami ; she was already mad in her first appearance, but is mad ''with revenge'' when she returns.
* MagicalGirlfriend
* MagicPants -- [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] in an {{omake}}
* MagicSkirt -- WordOfGod specifically stated in spite of the "other Moka's" penchant for high kicks, her panties will ''not'' be shown, ever. (Yukari specifically laments this fact in one of the {{omake}}s.) Apparently, this doesn't extend to the anime.
*** Subverted in [[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/rosario_vampire/v10/c038/39.html chapter 38]]
* MaleGaze -- ''Default'' of the anime
* ManEatingPlant -- The Witch War arc contains an entire army of these. In another chapter, it introduces the Dorian, a monster plant filled with NaughtyTentacles and a taste for humans and monsters alike.
* {{Masquerade}} -- The whole of point of Yokai Academy is to teach monsters how to blend into the human society. Hence, as a lucky break for Tsukune, their curriculum is directly based on the leading human (Japanese) schools.
* MarshmallowHell -- Kurumu's favorite form of greeting to Tsukune, but only so it annoys the competition; Tsukune's usually too busy suffocating to protest much.
* MasterOfTheMixedMessage -- Inner Moka [[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/rosario_vampire_season_ii/v04/c016/ here]] succesfully confusing not only Tsukune but the rest of the UnwantedHarem as well
* MeaningfulName
* MissFanservice -- In the Manga, Kurumu provides more panty shots and ends up in states of undress more times than all the other characters combined (It certainly seems that way, at any rate).
* MonsterOfTheWeek -- Mostly students, but there have been teachers who're AxCrazy sociopaths with hair triggers.
* MrExposition -- Nazo gives out info on types of monsters and gives the exact number of seconds it takes to defeat an opponent. The manga reveals he's also a MorphWeapon
* {{Nakama}} -- certainly by series two no matter how much Kurumu and Inner Moka would deny it
* NightmareFuel -- Kahlua. [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown Oh.]] ''[[PsychopathicManChild God.]]'' '''[[{{Yandere}} Just.]] [[BodyHorror Kahlua]]'''.
* {{Nosebleed}} -- Interestingly, the victim is Kokoa, in reaction to fanservice from ''women''...
** Time will tell if this develops into [[LesbianVampire another well known trope]].
*** In a recent chapter Kokoa gets a nosebleed from a [[BoysLove boys' love]] manga, so it's hard to say where this is going.
** One noteable example in the anime is episode 11 of ''Capu2'': [[spoiler:Tsukune does this with {{high pressure blood}} when Kurumu *while in a really skimpy outfit* flashs him while under the effects of a magical mirror that not only reveals the monsters of the school true forms but also stops any resistance to their inner desires and natures in the episode]]
** Also happens once in the manga, when a Doppleganger who's taken Kurumu's form briefly incapacitates Tsukune by flashing him.
* OnceAnEpisode -- One can practically time when the obligatory fight and final blood-sucking "kapuchu~!!" will happen by the start of episode 4
* OneWingedAngel -- When the latest student causing trouble reveals their true form, it's time for Moka to go all out.
** Also Kahlua, in a more literal form. [[spoiler:One has to wonder what will happen if she pulls her ''other'' [[CreepyCoolCrosses earring]] off.]]
* OnlyYouCanRepopulateMyRace -- Tsukune is either blessed or ''[[CursedWithAwesome cursed]]'' with the fact Kurumu ''and'' Mizore are able/willing to have father their child.
** Yet slightly averted: they decide to choose ''only'' him and no other guy on campus. Any guy would work, but they're thus far fixated on Tsukune.
* OralFixationFixation -- Mizore and her lollipop; justified that all snow women need to have something in their mouths to stay cool from the heat. But she continues to keep it in her mouth even when in her rather cold homeland, because she likes it.
* OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent
* OT3: This is Yukari's plan for her, Moka, and Tsukune.
* OurHeroIsDead -- Episode nine ends on a cliffhanger with Tsukune apparently dead. [[HeGotBetter He gets better.]]
* OurMonstersAreDifferent -- Most can shapeshift or approximate a human form. One student [[LampshadeHanging hangs a lampshade]] on the fact [[CatGirl Nekonome-sensei]] has the most obviously non-human form. She smiles and proceeds to claw his face off before returning to the lesson.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent -- All vampires are seemingly unaffected by sunlight and clearly aren't [[TheUndead undead]]. Water will paralyzes them, though it's uncertain if it's supernatural or psychosomatic. The titular PowerLimiter rosary's a holy item.
** However, the sunlight aversion might be due to the fact [[spoiler:Moka's biological mother is human, thus she's likely a HalfHumanHybrid]].
*** Unlikely, given that [[spoiler:Moka's half-sister Kokoa also shows no sign of being weakened or harmed by sunlight]].
* PantyShot -- The anime is ''loaded'' with these in just the first episode (roughly one every minute or so). Just look at how short the skirts are in the pictures. According to the official staff blog, each writer's meeting for the show involves serious discussions of character panties
** Lampshaded in episode 8, too!
** Strangely enough, the manga seems to diligently hide any panty shots from Moka and only her. WordOfGod says that Inner Moka's panties will ''never'' be shown, no matter how high she kicks.
*** Ironically, Inner Moka eventually gives a clearly visible panty shot in chapter 38.
* PantyFighter -- The anime
* PointyEars -- Kurumu in her true form
* PowerLimiter -- Moka's rosary necklace and [[spoiler:Tsukune's rosary bracelet, after he becomes a ghoul. And Kahlua's rosary earrings. And Sun's notebook.]]
* RapeAsDrama -- [[spoiler:Mizore, [[TheWoobie that poor, dear girl]]. Not treated as a gimmick or done overly heavy-handed or melodramatic, and in this troper's opinion, one of the most moving, ''emotionally battering'' and awesome arcs of the whole series]]
** [[spoiler:Of course, the whole event never actually did happen because the 'terrible villain' in question decided going through with anything like that would be a little squicky, though he did say it in as slimy a manner as possible.]]
* RedEyesTakeWarning -- Moka's super-vampire side has these
* SayItWithHearts -- Almost everyone in Tsukune's harem, but mostly Moka and Kurumu
* SayMyName -- "Moka-san!" "Tsukune!". Repeat as many times as necessary
* SecretKeeper -- The Newspaper Club, towards Tsukune
* ShallowLoveInterest -- Moka's non-vampire personality (or lack thereof)
* ShoutOut -- [[spoiler:Tsukune's state as a ghoul seems to follow closely to those in TheWorldOfDarkness RPG setting, though he has the benefit of feral vampire-like UnstoppableRage]]
**Also, a certain [[NinjaGaiden someone]] can be seen standing on a pole, in the background of [[http://www.onemanga.com/Rosario-Vampire_II/7/19/ this page]].
***Shiina Tamai and Hoshimaru from {{Narutaru}} also appears in [[http://www.onemanga.com/Rosario-Vampire_II/7/09/ this page.]]
** In the manga, Nekonome-sensei claims to be "thirty years younger", thus "seventeen years old", a joke often used by her voice actor, KikukoInoue. Yes, the ''manga'' shouts out to a ''voice actor''
*** Well, it ''is'' Kikuko Inoue. She's kind of a legend at this point. The joke takes a new form when she voices Mizore's mother.
** In the anime episode ''Body Measurement + Vampire'', when Ruby is playing the doctor, she seems to have been taking fashion tips from [[Characters/NeonGenesisEvangelion Ritsuko Akagi]]
** Chapter 15 of the second manga serialization introduces the magical whip "Belmont", complete with title cover and panel done in the style of an early {{Castlevania}} game, which even features GoddamnedBats. The whip's power of magic canceling is identical to that of the Vampire Killer, the whip the Belmonts wield. Except that Belmont doesn't burn/kill vampires with a touch, like Vampire Killer does. Good thing, since [[spoiler:Inner Moka is the one who uses it.]]
** In episode 5 the soccer players' shirts are nearly identical to those worn by [[CaptainTsubasa Nankatsu team]]
** How about in chapter 23 of part II of the manga: Tsukune [[{{Bleach}} catches a big-ass phoenix by the beak]]. Even some minor similarities - after everyone's finished gaping (because the phoenix is [[TheWorfEffect supposed]] to be really powerful), it's getting ready for another go, and someone else steps in and takes it down.
* SkewedPriorities -- Outer Moka [[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/rosario_vampire_season_ii/v05/c023/31.html here]] considers relationship issues more important than the monster trying to kill them - [[DiscussedTrope the other characters find at least as odd as the audience]]
* SomethingCompletelyDifferent -- Episode eight of ''Capu2'', which is a series of short stories revolving more around the side cast than the main
* SilentBob -- Sun Otonashi, who communicates by SignLanguage
** [[spoiler:Turns out she's a Siren and can talk, but doesn't to avoid the nasty effects of her enchanted voice]]
* StalkerWithACrush -- Mizore, lampshaded endlessly. She even out-and-out says at one point that stalking Tsukune is her ''hobby''.
* [[SuperpoweredEvilSide Superpowered Cold Ruthless Prideful Side]] -- Moka's super-vampire abilities has to be sealed away, released only when the rosary's removed. Doing so reveals her true personality: cold, ruthless and arrogant, but less evil than traditional vampires.
* SuperMode -- Whenever Moka gives some of her blood to Tsukune (think ''{{Karin}}''), he temporarily gains vampiric powers. [[spoiler:[[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity There's just one little problem...]]]]
* TearJerker -- The seoncd manga's starting to throw around some much heavier story arcs, some of which have some very emotional moments:
** [[spoiler:The "Flower Offering" arc, which involves Mizore's attempt to seduce Tsukune so she won't be forced into an unwanted arranged marriage, her subsequent rape and attempted suicide, and TearJerker CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming rescue by Kurumu.]]
*** [[spoiler:There was no rape. There was a forced kiss and nothing more. Upsetting to her, [[WhatDoYouMeanItsNotHeinous but...]]]]
** [[spoiler:Kurumu accidentally hitting Tsukune with her "succubus charm". She knows it's the wrong thing to do, but can't bring herself to un-charm him. All she wants is to know what it would be like for him to want her, just for a little while, even if it's not real. Even charmed, she can't get him to even say "I like you" to her, and as she tries, she slowly breaks down into tears over the fact that she can't hear him say it. Finally, knowing he won't remember when she breaks the charm, she tearfully tells him "I love you" over and over anyway.]]
* TenchiSolution - Won Fanfan attempts to lure Tsukune into the Chinese Demon Mafia (no, seriously) by pointing out that this would make it a simple matter for him to marry his entire harem. With the exception of Moka, the girls make it clear that they [[{{Understatement}} don't have a problem with this]]... and [[LovableSexManiac Yukari]] tries to ''put him on a leash and force him to accept''.
** [[http://www.onemanga.com/Rosario-Vampire_II/23/37/ And Kurumu, Ruby, and Mizore dress to fit in with the Chinese]]....
* TheUndead -- Not Moka but [[spoiler:Tsukune following his [[OurGhoulsAreCreepier "upgrade"]]]]
** Also, Chinese zombies.
* ThemeNaming -- The vampire sisters (in order of appearance) Moka/Mocha, Kokoa/Cocoa, and Kahlua and probably their as-yet-unrevealed eldest sister as well. One wonders if their also-unrevealed father also has name to fit the theme...
** In addition, most major characters have a word referencing [[ColourfulThemeNaming color]] somewhere in their names:
*** Red - Moka '''Aka'''shiya, Kokoa '''Shu'''zen, '''Ruby''' Tojou
*** Blue - Tsukune '''Ao'''no, '''Ru'''bi Toujou
*** Black - Kurumu '''Kuro'''no
*** Violet - '''Yukari''' Sendou
*** White - Mizore '''Shira'''yuki
*** Silver - '''Gin'''ei Morioka
*** Orange - Rubi '''Tou'''jou
*** Gold - Hokuto '''Kane'''shiro
*** Grey - '''Ha'''ji Miyamoto
** Some of the characters also have names that relate to what they really are:
*** "Gin" means "silver", commonly linked to werewolves, and Gin's a werewolf
*** "Yuki" means snow, and Mizore Shira'''yuki''' is a snow woman
*** Their teacher's a cat girl, and she has "neko" ("cat"} as part of her last name
* ThirteenGoingOnThirty -- Yukari and Kokoa in the manga, while just Yukari in the anime. The manga version backfires into a FountainOfYouth, while the anime takes place on MeasuringDay
* ThisIsUnforgivable --[[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/rosario_vampire_season_ii/v01/c002/37.html here]]
* TokenLoli -- Yukari
* TookALevelInBadass -- Tsukune, several times
* TooKinkyToTorture -- [[spoiler:Ruby; when Tsukune goes into training and is bound to Ruby by a chain that shocks her whenever he uses his power improperly, it seems like it's to encourage him to learn faster to spare her pain. Instead, she seems rather "disappointed" when she stops getting zapped after a day. She also ties herself up in the chain while he's unconscious, including passing it between her legs at the crotch level, excusing it as being like twisting a phone cord around one's finger when bored - an excuse Tsukune doesn't buy. She also likes the idea of him with the whip, and pleads him to order her around.]]
** [[spoiler:Coupled along with the fact that while fighting, the electrical current seems to give Ruby an orgasm before Tsukune learns to control his power.]]
*** [[spoiler:[[http://www.onemanga.com/Rosario-Vampire_II/15/32-33/ No way is that]] only "seems to".]]
**** [[spoiler:Check the small between-panel text on the left of that linked page. The editor appears to agree with you.]]
** [[spoiler: ...and her dialogue while he's fighting: [[DoubleEntendre "Keep beating it.", "Harder", "Beat it", "His youkai power, it's getting larger and larger"]]...*ahem*]]
** Also the incident where she joins the Newspaper Club as an adviser, and tells Tsukune, "Order me around, I'll do anything."
** When asked in a recent chapter what her relationship to Tsukune was, her answer was "toy".
* TooManyBelts -- Mizore has a couple of extra belts connecting her waist to her ZettaiRyouiki for no discernible reason.
* TrainingFromHell -- In the latest arcs, [[spoiler:Tsukune's getting trained by "Inner" Moka that pushes his limits. Blood leaks from his mouth while Moka belittles his fighting ability, in comparison to her. Tsukune's will breaks at this and he's ready to quit. It's not until later in the arc he gets into a fight and fully unleashes his ghoul-strength without becoming the slightest bit crazed. And after weeks of trying to keep pace with Inner Moka, the humans he has to fight (and even ''the bullets they shoot at him'') seem like they're in slow motion by comparison. Though he still sucks ''compared to Inner-Moka'', he's grown by considerable leaps and bounds.]]
* TransformationSequence -- It seems the production company spent so much money animating the ''awesome'' fights in the closing credits they have to use this '''exact''' stock footage every damned episode just to get the cash back.
* TheTriadsAndTheTongs: Fong-Fong Wong is the only son of the boss of the biggest (Youkai) one in all of China. It's unclear whether his undead sister is part of it as well.
* {{Tsundere}} -- [[http://www.onemanga.com/Rosario-Vampire_II/23/38/ Just]] [[http://www.onemanga.com/Rosario-Vampire_II/23/39/ THIS]]
* TugLoverWar -- How Tsukune is not literally snapped in half by now is an unfathomable mystery
** Probably because even before his PowerUp, he was MadeOfIron: smashed into the ground hard enough to break rock, thrown onto vending machines...he just ''[[{{Determinator}} keeps getting up]]''.
* UnwantedHarem -- Doesn't help that you want to cheer for each girl
* UnstoppableRage -- [[spoiler:Tsukune]]
* WallOfWeapons -- Mizore's mother seems to have...interesting hobbies.
* TheWatcher -- This seems to be at least one role the [[http://www.onemanga.com/Rosario-Vampire/15/25/ bus driver]] plays
* WeaksauceWeakness -- Vampires can be weakened with just a splash of ordinary water, though oddly, herbal water has no effect.
** It's even pointed out vampires have far more weaknesses than any other monsters to compensate for their extreme power: silver, water, the rosaries...
** Indeed, this is one of the advantages [[spoiler:Tsukune's ghoul form]] has over Moka; there are ''no'' weaknesses (except for a spell-binding crucifix and [[spoiler:[[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity the risk of permanent insanity]]]]).
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotHeinous -- [[spoiler:The manga set up a situation that made it seem like Mizore was about to get raped and nobody was around to help her... but the bad guy didn't go through with it because ''in his own words'' the idea of sleeping with a girl that was crying freaked him out. After setting that situation up it becomes much more difficult to find a kiss against her will as terrible as the good guys treat it.]] YourMileageMayVary
** [[ValuesDissonance Actually, stealing a kiss from a girl is a big deal in Japan (Especially if it's her first one)]].
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotSymbolic -- Tsukune...''on a giant cross''. You don't get more symbolic than that.
* WhyDoYouKeepChangingJobs? -- In ''Capu2'', Ruby continues to change jobs at the school frequently.
* WolfMan -- Gin
* TheWoobie – All the girls have their own woobie moments, but the one that takes the cake would be Mizore. Spurned by her childhood love because she's not human; assaulted by the teacher she had a crush on, only to get the reputation of being violent from defending herself and became anti-social; [[spoiler:forced into a loveless marriage because her race is unable to bear children when they're not young anymore, with her fiancé from an organization that would destroy her entire race if they don't agree]]; and to top it off, no matter how much she loves Tsukune, he will most likely never return her feelings.
** She cements this position in the second manga after [[spoiler:her near-rape by aforementioned fiance, attempted suicide because of it, Kurumu saving her and Mizore breaking down into hysterics in Kurumu's arms. The whole event showing that she has very, very deep emotions behind her {{kuudere}} exterior, and making anyone want to hug her and tell her "it's all ok" like Kurumu was able to.]]
*** [[spoiler:She gets an in-universe woobie moment when, in the events leading up to the rape, she tries to seduce Tsukune into making love with her so she wouldn't be forced into an arranged marriage she doesn't want -- he sees how scared she is about whatever is going to happen and tries to hold and comfort her, despite her being naked and lying on top of him.]]
** Kurumu gets her own woobie story when [[spoiler:she accidentally charms Tsukune but can't bring herself to un-charm him, just so she can know what it would be like if he wanted her. Even when charmed, she's unable get him to say to her a simple "I like you". All that heartbreak and all those tears...]]
*** [[spoiler:Even more heart-wrenching is that this comes after the arc with Mizore. Kurumu puts up a front that she and Mizori are nothing but adversaries for Tsukune's love, but she ''unhesitatingly'' leaps out the window to save Mizori when she tries to kill herself. Kurumu has so much love in her heart, and she keeps it bottled up so it won't hurt her even more when it isn't returned.]]
* XanatosGambit -- [[spoiler:Hokuto]]
* {{Yandere}} -- Mizore, at least at first, though Kokoa seems to have taken the spot ('course, not for Tsukune but for dear Moka onee-sama~!)
** Mizore's definitely yandere at her introduction, but since being admitted into the UnwantedHarem, she's more {{kuudere}} who, as mentioned above, finds it fun to continue "stalking" Tsukune.
** It sends shivers down the spine to even ''[[NightmareFuel imagine]]'' '''what''' manner of royally fucked-up brainwashing it took to produce a sociopath like Kahlua.
* YaoiFangirl -- Yukari and Kokoa, [[http://www.onemanga.com/Rosario-Vampire_II/23/09/ made clear]] after they hear of Tsukune's success with men.
* YouAreTooLate -- [[spoiler:Hokuto]] explains his master plan as a distraction to keep Moka and Tsukune away from him long enough to pull it off.
* {{Yokai}}
* ZettaiRyouiki -- Kokoa, Mizore and Yukari
