->Jayne: Captain, can you stop her from bein' cheerful, please?\\
Mal: I don't believe there is a power in the 'verse that can stop Kaylee from being cheerful. Sometimes you just wanna duct tape her mouth and dump her in the hold for a month.\\
Kaylee: I love my captain.
-->--Series/Firefly

The Cutie is a character who is known for being sweet and lovable, more comic relief than anything, who likes nothing more than to pet little puppies. They make you adore them, root for them and love them.

They are known for being very idealistic, cute and innocent. Some of them even may act in a childlike manner to emphasize their innocence with an upbeat and positive attitude. They also tend to be genuinely nice, loving, caring, and kind to whoever is with them. They tend to take the most peaceful solution to a conflict and hardly ever (if ever) harm others in any way. They're most often female, though younger boys can also be this.

Their innocence and purity draws the sympathy of the audience for them. For this reason they tend to become TheWoobie when bad things happen to them.

* Twentyfifth Baam the main character from TowerOfGod. He is merely a WideEyedIdealist trying make friends while he is looking for his lost best friend. Despite that, he gets a lot of flak. Somewhere along the line he meets Miseng, who is another straight example.
* From Anime/CodeGeass, Nunnally Lamperouge, Shirley Fennette and Princess Euphemia.
* Manga/AzumangaDaioh's Chiyo Mihama is this in spades. So much so, that she seems to exist for the sole purpose of having everyone fawn over her. Not that we can blame them, since calling Chiyo "cute" amounts to calling the ocean big.
** Speaking of Kiyohiko Azuma, his manga after Manga/AzumangaDaioh has Chiyo's green-haired, 4 pony-tailed expy, Yotsuba.
* Momo Hinamori from Manga/Bleach, sweet, innocent, trusting (to a fault). You can't help but feel for her when things go horribly wrong for her; particularly when [[spoiler: she was betrayed by Aizen, who tried to kill her and later, during the FKT arc, he adds insult to injury by duping Hitsugaya into doing it for him]].
* Madoka Kaname from Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica. And you better believe she gets put through the wringer, though . Also, [[spoiler:Homura was originally an Adorkable version of this, but after going through several timelines worth of BreakTheCutie, she takes several levels in badass in her bid to protect Madoka]].
* Chi from Manga/Chobits is arguably the cutest animé character ever made. Not only is she absolutely gorgeous, she is unbelievably innocent and sweet. Add the fact that she has the mind of an innocent baby , and her saying "Chi?" at least eight times per episode and you have a serious overdose of cuteness in one lovable character.
* Tomoyo of Manga/CardcaptorSakura, despite her rather *ahem* notable fondness for Sakura, is near infallibly charming and innocent. Sakura herself leans more and more into this as the series goes on (especially if Syaoran is involved).
* In Manga/SangatsuNoLion, Hina's probably one of the cutest characters, second only to her younger sister, in the cast of an otherwise realistic, and sometimes even depressing, series. She constantly approaches life with cheer, kindness, and optimism.

* Betty Cooper from Archie Comics, a competitor for Archie's affections. Betty often takes time for caring about others especially nurturing Archie. In an episode, she had to excuse herself as she was tutoring elementary students at the local library. Veronica discovers this as spies on her thinking Archie was cheating on her.

* Michael manages to be this in the KnightAndRogueSeries while also being the muscle, because his personality consists of such high levels of naivete and he's so chivalrous and innocent that he can't even tell a white lie. It helps that the other main character is a snarky con man.

* Literature/Pollyanna is all but the TropeNamer of this. She lives in a town of bitter and angry people and slowly makes them cheery. Too bad about the ending where .
* DespicableMe has Margo, Edith, and Agnes, the most innocent of Gru's adopted daughters.
* CharlieChaplin's most famous character- The Little Tramp. D'awwwwwww!!!!!!

* BBC Radio One has many younger presenters that fall into this category: Current examples include Phil Keet Taggart, Alice Levine, and especially B.Traits.

* Kaylee from Series/Firefly is by far the most cheerful and idealistic character on Serenity's crew. River was also this before her BreakTheCutie ordeal, and had the show continued and not been ScrewedByTheNetwork, it's practically a given that JossWhedon would have given Kaylee the works.
* Elsewhere in JossWhedon works, Willow Rosenberg of Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer was all over this trope.
* Annie Edison from Series/Community.
* Izzie from MyMadFatDiary.
* Raj and Bernadette from the Series/TheBigBangTheory.
* Series/Scandal: Quinn and Huck.
* Merlin and Guinevere in . Both are sweet, kind, wide eyed idealists, socially awkward, and are the first casualties to BreakTheCutie when the series gets DarkerAndEdgier.
* Series/MurdochMysteries: Anna Fulford is a very sweet and very kind young English woman and Detective Murdoch's TemporaryLoveInterest. She receives the BreakTheCutie treatment, being targeted by "Black Hand" organization as a punishment (her fiancé worked for them and stole money from them). Lots of crap is going on in her life but she manages to stay relatively upbeat and is cute as ever. Even Julia, who should be jealous of her, says that Anna's lovely and seems to really mean it.

* Both incarnations of Bianca from the Franchise/Pokemon series.
* Nanako from Persona 4.
* Bioware tends to include one of these as a love interest -- Aerie in BaldursGate II, Tali in MassEffect, Leliana in VideoGame/DragonAgeOrigins, Merrill in VideoGame/DragonAgeII
* Flonne from VideoGame/Disgaea is so sweet and wholeheartedly lovable that she is a WideEyedIdealist LoveFreak.
* Nanashi in VideoGame/DuelSaviorDestiny is probably the cutest/cutesiest and most innocent character in the story. She frequently uses the third person and has her own verbal tic. She's very hands on and affectionate. She's also undead, so the main character wants nothing to do with her or her affections.
* Moira Brown, Megaton's shopkeeper and tinkerer in science in VideoGame/Fallout3. She particularly sticks out for being perpetually cheery and upbeat in a blasted post-apocalyptic wasteland.
* Rinoa from VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII. Reportedly, Tetsuya Nomura, the head character designer for Square at the time, specifically wanted her to give off a "cute" vibe, and pretty much built her entire character around this idea.
* Vanille from VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII all but skips through the game. She's easily the motivator of the team (along with Snow) and has various moments of BadassAdorable. But then there's her backstory.
** Don't forget about Serah who's a sweet girl but then she's turned to crystal.
* Sora from VideoGame/KingdomHearts is a male variant.

* Pearly, from the AceAttorney series. Maya is also a milder version.
** Trucy as well. And Regina Berry from the much hated case 2-3.
* Komari from VisualNovel/LittleBusters has HairOfGoldHeartOfGold and InnocentBlueEyes, adores sweets, is often distracted from conversations by things like dandelions blowing in the breeze, and just plain wants to make the world a better place for everyone.

* In SlightlyDamned, Kieri and Buwaro. both are drawn to look absolutely adorable (except when the other threatened), and Kieri turns into a bunny at random moments.

* Ringo represent the more cheerful, optimistic side of Luke in Film Conscience.
* Jane Bennet in WebVideo/TheLizzieBennetDiaries corresponds to the description of this trope. She's universally loved and admired. She's adorable and nice to everybody, and genuine in her sweetness. Interesting how a woman in her mid twenties can pull this off.
* Nella from WebVideo/TheNostalgiaChick, to contrast with the other oft-psychotic BrokenBird characters on the show.
* Clover of the WhateleyUniverse. One of the youngest kids at SuperheroSchool Whateley Academy, she's a naive wizardess-wannabe with the cutest puppy ever. And a witch hat she's sure will give her magic powers. She also happens to be a powerful RealityWarper and her puppy Buttons can turn into a monstrous dog the size of a pony.

* WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic:
** Fluttershy is a ShrinkingViolet known for her kindness. Ends up being broken at some point, as well.
** Pinkie Pie, a GenkiGirl known for being very cheerful and positive. Ends up being broken at some point, as well.
** Apple Bloom's stint in a bunny suit puts her here.
** Sweetie Belle is this in every way. Voice squeaks? Adorable mane? Cute face? yup, definitely fits with her.
** Scootaloo as well, especially in "Sleepless in Ponyville". She's implied to be an orphan too, so that makes her all the more tragic.
** In a show with adorable ponies as the main cast, the Mane Six in general have their moments of being total cuties. Even Rainbow Dash.
* Beast Boy from WesternAnimation/TeenTitans is an (unconventional) Cutie, but decides to grow up in the fifth season.
* Harvey from WesternAnimation/SabrinaTheAnimatedSeries is a rare male example.
* Dee Dee from WesternAnimation/DextersLaboratory.
* Kuki Sanban/Numbuh Three from WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor.
* Bubbles from WesternAnimation/PowerpuffGirls. The theme song says she is "the joy and the laughter".
* Ty Lee from WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender -- though as an agent of the Fire Nation, she's also a PerkyFemaleMinion.
* Cornchip Girl and Miss Grotke from WesternAnimation/Recess.
* Mabel Pines, from WesternAnimation/GravityFalls.
* Orko, and to a slightly lesser extent, Cringer from WesternAnimation/HeManAndTheMastersOfTheUniverse.
* Gorillaz gives us an interesting example with 2D; whilst his wholly black eyes and UncannyValley appearance can make him look terrifying, he's actually a harmless KindHeartedSimpleton. Being TheWoobie helps.
* Miss Martian in WesternAnimation/YoungJustice [[spoiler: invokes this trope. Though genuinely kind, her mannerism and appearence was constructed from a short-lived cheesy sitcom called "Hello Megan", and her true form is a horrific monster. She almost betrayed her friends to keep the truth hidden, and in the second season develops a very dark tendency for MindRape.]]
* Butters from WesternAnimation/SouthPark.
