Some tropes can be pretty broad in scope, enough to cover one or more {{Sub Trope}}s under them.

Let's say you have tropes for "Scarf Juggling" and "Knife Juggling". Just plain "Juggling" would be the SuperTrope for both of them.

In short, if you took every example of a super trope and combined with every example of its sub tropes, they would all count as examples of the super trope.

This is also important, as a MissingSupertrope can lead to people thinking a trope is broader than it is.

In [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genus%E2%80%93differentia_definition logic terms]], the Super Trope would be the genus, and the sub tropes the differentia.

Do not confuse this with different tropes simply having a common element. That is a standard index. Although a super trope can be an index if it has enough sub tropes.

Compare SisterTrope.

Not to be confused with Administrivia/TheSameButMore, ExaggeratedTrope, SuperheroTropes.

[[index]]

* IdiotBall covers {{trope}}s like HeroBall, VillainBall, and DistressBall. ConflictBall isn't a SubTrope, but a SisterTrope.
* ChekhovsGun covers quite a few {{trope}}s, as does its evil twin, AssPull, which covers {{trope}}s like DeusExMachina (an AssPull to resolve the story).
* BiggerIsBetter covers a... big collection of {{trope}}s.
* TryingToCatchMeFightingDirty covers a number of {{trope}}s that are both CombatTropes (like TTCMFD itself) and not necessarily related to combat. One of those second {{trope}}s, WeNeedADistraction, is a SuperTrope with a number of {{subtrope}}s of its own.
** Which makes TryingToCatchMeFightingDirty a [[{{Pun}} Super Duper Trope]], obviously.
* {{Conflict}} is one of the most super of all {{trope}}s, given any story needs it in some form.
** {{Characters}} is another.
** So is {{Plot}}.
* RemovingTheRival covers tropes like MurderTheHypotenuse and CripplingTheCompetition.
* ShowDontTell covers {{trope}}s such as InformedAttribute and ThatMakesMeFeelAngry.
* {{Badass}} can come in so many forms, because {{badass}} is just too awesome to contain in one.
* ShadesOfConflict covers the various forms of morality vs. morality, from BlackAndWhiteMorality to GreyAndGrayMorality and everything in between.
* Many of the RuleOfIndex {{trope}}s are {{super trope}}s.
* LivingADoubleLife covers several tropes, notably SecretIdentity, which in itself is a super trope.
* PinkMeansFeminine covers tropes such as PinkGirlBlueBoy and PrincessesPreferPink.
* IdealHero covers [[IncorruptiblePurePureness pure-hearted]] heroes such as TheCape, KnightInShiningArmor, CaptainPatriotic and AllLovingHero.
* AppropriateAnimalAttire covers all the animal clothing tropes.
* CloserToEarth covers all tropes where minorities are there to inspire and prop up the WhiteMaleLead, such as WomenAreWiser and MagicalNegro.
* TheFace covers all ensemble characters whose speciality is social skills whether its as TheChick, TheSocialExpert, TheHeart or [[TeamMom Team]] [[TeamDad Parent.]]
* DeathFromAbove covers everything people leaping into the air to attack someone in front of them, on up to artillery strikes and OrbitalBombardment. OrbitalBombardment itself covers {{Colony Drop}}s and {{Kill Sat}}s.
