{{Moe}}fication of either characters who are not normally moe, or [[CompanionCube objects and concepts which are not even alive]]. Very popular with FanArt and merchandise. Often referred to as "''gijinka''", the Japanese word for "anthropomorphism".

The ''mecha musume'' -- basically, battle vehicles or HumongousMecha rendered as cute girls -- are a common form of moe anthropomorphism. Can also overlap with CuteMonsterGirl if the moefied character is a monster. If the original character is male, GenderFlip may be a component, although boy implementations do occasionally happen.

Could easily be NightmareFuel for some, depending on what is changed, what it looks like, and its gender.

Compare AnthropomorphicPersonification, SexyWhateverOutfit, and [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendShipIsMagic Ponification]] ([[RulesOfTheInternet Rule 85]]). Supertrope to CastOfPersonifications.

See also HumanityEnsues (technically unrelated, but can be compared as an in-universe variant thanks largely to the utilization of MorphicResonance).

* The notorious WebOriginal/OSTan[=s=] are moe versions of operating systems and programs; their boob size is often proportional to memory requirements. Windows ME-tan is the EnsembleDarkHorse, who became a popular character for her good intentions but decidedly unstable nature (and her cute IdiotHair). Windows 2000-tan is a professional, reserved woman, Windows XP-tan has excellent [[UnusualEuphemism graphical capabilities]], and Windows Vista-tan has transparencies and [[GagBoobs even more memory requirements]] (except for Basic-tan who's a {{tsundere}} little girl). Windows 95-tan is a YamatoNadeshiko carrying a {{katana|sAreJustBetter}}, destroying Microsoft's PC competition once and for all, and eats very little memory. Norton Anti-Virus is portrayed as a lecherous, ghostly doctor who makes the girls strip naked even for the most minor ailments; [=McAfee=] as a faith healer; and AVG as a handsome student doctor. ** There are Linux-tans as well. Linux-tan herself is a bit of a ShrinkingViolet, and Slack-tan is a WrenchWench. There are also Unix-tans, with UNIX-tan herself being somewhat a {{tsundere}}. ([[http://juzo-kun.deviantart.com/art/Linux-tan-Lineart-23093548 Here]] is a pretty good lineup of the major ones.)

** Microsoft announced the new [[http://haruhichan.com/wpblog/45709/windows-10-os-tan-revealed/ OS tan for Windows 10]], named Touko Madobe after a naming contest.
** A similar concept can be found in ''[[http://rosel-d.deviantart.com/art/My-Senior-IE-kun-512140410 My Senior IE-kun]]'', a web series about web browsers in a WorkCom setting with "IE-kun" as a ditzy BunnyEarsLawyer. The series typically uses the browser logos as [[SurrealSymbolicHeads the characters' heads]], but the author did make human faces to make the moe more palatable.

* A few Music/{{Vocaloid}} characters have elements of this, and one plays it completely straight. [[http://images.wikia.com/vocaloid/images/a/aa/Illu_Vocaloid_Gachapoid.jpg Ryuto]], also known as Gachapoid, is a male anthropomorphism of beloved Japanese children's tv character Gachapin. Hatsune Miku's design is heavily based on the Yamaha [=DX7=] and [=DX100=] synthesizers. Kagamine Rin and Len have elements from the Yamaha EOS keyboard in their design. Kamui Gakupo has many elements of digital music, such as spectrograms and equalizers, portrayed as samurai gear, and Megurine Luka has elements of brass instruments in her design.
* Fruity Loops (a music synthesizer program) has [[http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/vocaloid/images/1/18/FL_Chan.png/revision/latest?cb=20100207184823 FL-chan]], popular among the Music/{{Vocaloid}} fandom. * Several Japanese railways have their trains Moe-fied.

* Some characters in Anime/AxisPowersHetalia are this. Notably, the Holy Roman Empire, who was one of the greatest powers in Europe for almost a millenium, in the form of an Adorkable child.

** For an in-universe example, [[http://wiki.puella-magi.net/Nagisa_Momoe Nagisa Momoe]], also known as Bebe, from ''[[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagicaTheMovieRebellion Rebellion]]'' can be seen as one, [[spoiler: after all, she '''is''' indeed the very same Charlotte.]]
* ''LightNovel/HaiyoreNyarkoSan'' portrays [[EldritchAbomination Nyarlathotep]] from the Franchise/CthulhuMythos as a wacky LoveInterest to the main character, though she prefers "Nyarko". Lovecraft's Nyarlathotep is renowned for his cruelty and alien monstrousness even among a pantheon of terror-inducing gods.
* ''LightNovel/{{Kampfer}}'' does this in its {{eyecatch}}es for the {{Creepy Doll}}s that grant the heroines their powers. While in doll form they look like cute animals that just committed suicide in a variety of ways, in human form they look like PettingZooPeople, focusing more on the cute than the creepy.
* ''Anime/BinchouTan'' is an anime about Anthropomorphic '''charcoal''' in the form of chibi girls.
* The anime series ''Anime/{{Yatterman}}'' did [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIZ_5d6ylZM Obama-kun]] [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrLCNx3hZXM and Hilary-chan]].
* Nanako, the partially-anthropomorphised form of the [[{{BFG}} Seventh Scripture]] in ''VisualNovel/{{Tsukihime}}''. Ditzy little half-unicorn girl that is only visible to those with intense magical potential, have spilled their blood on it, and weird people like Shiki.
* Parodied in ''Manga/NyoronChuruyaSan'' with "Dust-chan", who is shortly disposed of via vacuum cleaner.
** She always comes back. *shudder*
* ''Toei Robot Girls'', which is exactly what it sounds like. Toei Animation {{Super Robot}}s turned into cute girls.
** ''Anime/RobotGirlsZ'' adds even more girls to the lineup, namely ones styled after the titular robots of the [[Anime/MazingerZ Mazinger]] franchise. Its browser game spinoff takes it one step further by personifying some of Toei's non-robot properties, such as [[Manga/DororonEnmaKun Enmako-chan]] or a Anime/CuteyHoney representing the then-upcoming movie ''Cutey Honey: Tears''.
* The "Angel Chromosome XX" line of ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' merchandise portrayed the Angels as cute girls, including portraying Lilith as Rei Ayanami.
** [[spoiler:Tabris is a female Kaworu Nagisa.]]
* ''VisualNovel/KoihimeMusou'' for RomanceOfTheThreeKingdoms.
* ''Franchise/{{Gundam}}'' has ''MS Girl'' or ''MS Shojo'', published in the ''Gundam Ace'' monthly magazine since 1982 by MikaAkitaka, making them the origin of mecha musume. The first collection artbook was released in 1994.
** In 1985, Bandai released the Armored Lady Original Characters for ''Z-Gundam'' and ''Macross'', Mecha Musume that predates the 1994 artbook. [[http://farm1.static.flickr.com/219/483223952_59b7f47b24.jpg]]
** [[Anime/GundamBuildFightersTry Super Fumina]], anyone?
* ''Manhwa/ArkAngels'' features [[PettingZooPeople personified versions of various endangered animals]] as well as of the planets of our solar system (plus Earth's moon).
* {{Genderswap}} a few character from ''Manga/SaintSeiya''... and voila! [[http://www.projectharuhi.net/?p=2470 Moe versions]] of the western zodiac signs!
* [[EquippableAlly The Seven Sisters of Purgatory]] from ''VisualNovel/UminekoWhenTheyCry'' are demonic stakes given the form of [[OlderThanTheyLook teenage girls.]] Plus, they are each an AnthropomorphicPersonification of the SevenDeadlySins. Nightmare Fuel for most, Fetish Fuel for some, including Battler, who refers to them as "the ass nee-chans."
* [[Anime/CControl Money and Soul]] Has [[HornedHumanoid M]][[MsFanservice s]][[FieryRedhead y]][[{{Tsundere}} u]], the moe personification of the protagonist's ''future''. Yes, that's right: This show makes '''''an abstract concept''''' moe.
** Along the same lines, [[spoiler:Madoka Kaname]] in ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'' basically [[InvokedTrope invokes]] this by [[spoiler:[[AbstractApotheosis "becoming hope,"]]]] transforming herself into an adorable law of the universe.
* ''Manga/{{Chintsubu}}'' makes ''penises'' cute. Sentient talking penises possessed by other male spirits. Yeah. They're actually pretty cute.
* ''Sentou Yousei Shoujo Tasukete! Mave-chan'' is an entire show based upon Moe Anthropomorphisms of the aircraft from the anime ''Franchise/SentouYouseiYukikaze.''
* ''LightNovel/HumanityHasDeclined'' has moe deep space probes. Well, [[spoiler:Pion]] is moe, [[spoiler:Oyage is more bishounen]].
* The heroines of ''Anime/StrikeWitches'' become something like this when donning their strike units based on real-life WWII tanks and fighters.
* ''Anime/HisCooolSehaGirls'' features the "Characters/SegaHardGirls", moe versions of Creator/{{Sega}} [[UsefulNotes/SegaGenesis video]] [[UsefulNotes/SegaSaturn game]] [[UsefulNotes/SegaDreamcast hardware]] as protagonists.
* What about rifles and machine guns made into elementary/middle/high schoolers? That is the premise of ''Manga/{{Upotte}}''.
* Even ''Pokemon'' has had plenty of gijinkas created for it. There are comics and more than one group on Website/DeviantArt.
** ''Manga/PokemonReBURST'' is the most prominent example of this. However, the manga subverts this by using technologies to turn humans into Pokemon gijinkas.
*** It is the first official Pokémon manga to have Pokémon gijinkas.
* There are gijinka of ''Manga/ShizukuChan'' characters in the series fandom. During the run of the 2012 anime, there was an official contest where winning gijinka designs would be featured on iPhone covers.
* ''Music/{{Tsukiuta}}'' is about 12 idols who are based on the months of the year. There are actually 24 - a male and female version of each month. The anime only features the boys, though.
* ''LightNovel/ProblemChildrenAreComingFromAnotherWorldArentThey'' has Black Percher being the Moe Anthropomorphism of TheBlackDeath, with her real name being Pestilence/Pest.
* ''Manga/SilverSpoon'' takes place in an agricultural high school. Nishikawa, who is from a crop farming family but also an anime and gaming otaku, tends to use this trope:
** When he's given the task to decorate a sled, he decorates it with anthropomorphized moe ''artificial fertilizers'', and names them "[=NPK48=]", a pun on Music/AKB48 ("NPK" standing for Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium).
** Much later in the story he presents breeds of potatoes anthropomorphizing them as various types of girls.
* Because the fan can't exactly recall the details of ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'' in ''WebVideo/VaguelyRecallingJoJo'', he replaces a few characters with cute anthropomorphic versions.
** Cursed Devo's Ebony Devil looks like a cute little boy with antennae and is wearing a teddy bear costume.
** Jotaro gets another Star Platinum, who is probably a cosplay for the Runaway Girl.
** Mariah's Bastet gets turned into a version of [[VideoGame/BlazBlue Taokaka]] with outlet paws.
* A darker example occurs in the ''Anime/JapanAnimatorExpo'' short ''ME!ME!ME!'', where the main character's depression and guilt over breaking up with his girlfriend are depicted as cute busty girls that [[ImAHumanitarian eat him alive.]]
* ''Manga/SgtFrog'': Thanks to Kululu's [[TransformationRay "We All Live Together" beam gun that turns animals into humans.]]

** Maiden Voyage, indeed.
* Almost half of the ''WesternAnimation/WallE'' fanart on Website/DeviantArt makes them into humans, or at least androids. And they usually manage to make even ''AUTO'' look [[http://schiffercake.deviantart.com/art/Human-WALL-E-Characters-94599797 cute]]. There's also a [[Webcomic/WallETheHumanTouch fancomic]] based around this concept.
* The same can be said for ''WesternAnimation/FindingNemo''.
* Website/{{Pixiv}} has provided Moe Jaegers from ''Film/PacificRim'': [[http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=big&illust_id=37122685 Gypsy Danger]], [[http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=big&illust_id=37140666 Cherno Alpha]], [[http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=37125579 Crimson Typhoon]].
* ''{{Sharknado}}'' [[http://slugbox.deviantart.com/art/Syfy-Sharks-Sharknado-395710929 gets in on the fun.]]
* Unsurprisingly, many Kaiju end up getting this treatment.
* Even ''Film/JurassicWorld'' is getting this! Perhaps helped by the fact that ''Jurassic World'' gave its prehistoric creatures a little more personality than the previous films did (making it easier to anthropomorphize them). [[http://soviet-red-bear.deviantart.com/gallery/54924388/Jurassic-saga A couple]] [[http://crazy-shark.deviantart.com/gallery/55244519/Jurassic-MOE of examples]].

[[folder:Based on Folklore]]
* ''Entaku Seitokai'' (''Round Table Student Council'') does this for the Myth/KingArthur legends. Heroic knights of old turned into the cute girls of today. A liberal amount of GenderFlip is also applied in this instance.
** The visual novels ''Knight Carnival!'' and ''12+'' also provide moe versions of Arthurian legends.

* ''Webcomic/AxisPowersHetalia'' is a notable example of male moe anthropomorphism, featuring countries in human form.
* [[http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2009/11/27/national-moe/ This book]] (site has some NotSafeForWork ads) about Moe countries, ''74 Countries Turned Into Bishoujo'', continues the ''Hetalia'' tradition, only all-female. And yes, North Korea is included.
** It's hilarious how England looks almost exactly like [[LightNovel/TheFamiliarOfZero Louise]].
* ''VideoGame/MoeMoeNijiTaisen'' does this for UsefulNotes/WorldWarII ''planes'' and ''tanks''. They battle by causing ClothingDamage.
* Along the lines of ''Axis Powers Hetalia'' the [[WebComic webmanga]] and web novel series ''Miracle Train ~Chūō-sen e Yōkoso~'' about the [[http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2372.html Japan Railways Chuo Train Line]] has five of its major stations (Zero Tokyo, Shintaro Shinjuku, Riku Nakano, Takuto Kichijōji, and Luna Tachikawa) personified as {{bishonen}}. The characters have even been given voice actors.
* There's also an anime called ''Anime/MiracleTrain'', though it focuses on the Oedo line instead of the Chuo line.
* ''Anime/StrikeWitches'': Probably the most well-known example for military Moe Anthropomorphism.
* There's a bunch of models for AP'd [=WW2=] planes as little girls with the appropriate national costumes and plane parts as clothes/prosthetic limbs. Surprisingly not very moe, or at least their eyes aren't.
* ''Webcomic/AfganisuTan'', a Japanese [[WebComic online]] YonKoma about the history of Afghanistan. Infamous for presenting the September 11th attacks as a rogue [[CatsAreMean cat]] ([[KarmaHoudini Al-Nyada]]) biting [[{{Eagleland}} Meriken]].
* Green Dam, the Chinese censorship/nanny tool once said to be a mandatory installation on all the country's new computers (until the government apparently backed down), was Moefied as a protest. Mildly NotSafeForWork link [[http://www.danwei.org/net_nanny_follies/green_dam_girl.php here]].

* [[http://nocturna.noor.jp/n-n/noctnavy.htm Japanisches Kaiserriech Mitternacht Marine]] is a webcomic revolving around the various personifications of UsefulNotes/WorldWarII weaponry, like planes and tanks.
* Hitler had already gotten the moe-treatment, but [[http://knowyourmeme.com/photos/650508-rule-63 other dictators aren't safe either]].
* As an extension of the above, some World War II generals like Eisenhower, UsefulNotes/DouglasMacArthur, Rommel and Zhukov are also given the treatment, from the same company that brought the "Moe Dictators" series.
* ''VideoGame/ToukenRanbu'' has the player bring historically famous Japanese swords to life as a CastFullOfPrettyBoys - SpearCounterpart to ''VideoGame/KantaiCollection'' (and it does have actual spears).
** Color nobody surprised when ''Touken Ranbu'' got cute sword ''[[DistaffCounterpart girls]]'' to rival them: enter ''Shinken!!'' and ''Tenka Hyakken'', which pull from the same pools of historical swords.

Since the whole thing started as a joke against Flat-Earthers, she's usually portrayed as a small-chested girl suffering serious ACupAngst, but she's occasionally a buxom beauty instead (a joke on "Mother Earth"). Other planets and the Sun have been anthropomorphized as well, but Earth-chan is still the most common, with other common targets including the Moon, Pluto, [[TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers and NASA.]] Occasionally, [[ShapedLikeItself all of Humanity]] is portrayed as an [[TheGhost unseen person]] Earth-chan talks to, who either gives her trouble or is a generally friendly companion.

** Even the quote for the CoolPlane page says, "If Kim Basinger was a plane, this is what she'd be." [[InvokedTrope Thanks, Tom Clancy!]]
* [[Manhwa/FlightHighschool Flight Highschool]] features a [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin high school]] populated entirely by anthropomorphized military aircraft of various nations from the UsefulNotes/ColdWar to the modern day. Attributes of each character's appearance such as their hair style and height are references to the aircraft they represent. They also have their plane on their back which is sometimes used for visual gags.

* The video game ''VideoGame/KantaiCollection'' and its [[Anime/KantaiCollection anime adaptation]], based on UsefulNotes/WorldWarII IJN, Kriegsmarine, Italian, American, British, French, and Russian ships. A defining feature of the said game would be the riggings of most ''kanmusu'' designed much like those found on their real-life counterparts.

Jokes about "Save-tan" developing sentience abounded, and several more messages were added acknowledging Save-tan as a character in her own right - including the ever-popular "Dammit, Save-tan!"

It works surprisingly well, particularly the {{Tsundere}} Ocelot and {{Meganekko}} Otacon (who was always [[TheWoobie a bit of a moe character anyway]]).
* ''VideoGame/{{Moemon}}'', a notorious GameMod for ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}} [=FireRed=] and [=LeafGreen=]'', converts the 'mons into {{Cute Monster Girl}}s, which only breaks down a little for Nidoran M. The mod also converts the Trainer to a {{Meido}}, and she flies instead of runs when she gets the Running Shoes.
** Male Pokemon do exist, and are very common, but the starters are usually female. There's a general 75%-25% ratio in the games, which has been [[GenderFlip flipped]] in the hack.

The series also features anthropomorphized versions of companies like Gust and Nippon Ichi, and later games add in girls representing specific game franchises like ''VideoGame/PacMan'', ''VideoGame/DynastyWarriors'', and ''VideoGame/StreetFighter''.
** The AnimatedAdaptation adds in a CanonForeigner character, Setag, who's a Moe Anthropomorphized version of Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

* Nearly all the characters in the ''VideoGame/Fallout4'' fan comic ''Deathclaw Desu Ga'' are shown as {{Cute Monster Girl}}s[=/=]boys. The cast consists of an Intelligent Albino [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Deathclaw]], several [[BigCreepyCrawlies Radroaches]], a broken-down [[WetwareCPU Robobrain]] with a goldfish living in "her" [[BrainInAJar brain module]], and the goldfish himself. However, it does the ''Calvin and Hobbes'' thing where different characters are percieved diffetently. For example, the Deathclaw looks like a 12-year old girl with horns and a tail to the audience, but to Redeye at the time he invaded her vault, looks like a regular Albino Deathclaw. While only shown once, the Robobrain sees herself as a fish-hat-wearing girl in a wheelchair. The Radroaches, to each other, look like blond Bishounen in bug costumes; except for their Queens, a Glowing One and a SassyBlackWoman respectively, and like giant cockroaches to the Deathclaw and Robobrain. Finally, the goldfish looks a Latino man in a gaudy lounge suit to the radroach queen, and a fish to everyone else. The only characters who don't get in on this are Mirelurks and bloatflies.

* There's an {{eroge}} called ''[=MonoGokoro MonoMusume=]'' that has moe-anthropomorphized objects as most of its principal cast. Objects turned into cute girls include a computer, a pillow, a HumongousMecha toy, a washing machine, and a pair of panties.
* A good portion of ''VideoGame/{{Touhou}}'' characters feature this to some degree or another; for example, Nitori, a Kappa, having the turtle shell and head plate of the actual mythological beast turning into a backpack and a cap, or Yamame, a giant spider monster, being a girl with no monstrous features except for design elements of the dress she wears. Some of the girls, like [[{{Karakasa}} Kogasa]], the Tsukumo sisters and Hata no Kokoro, are [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsukumogami tsukumogami]], which are basically personifications of inanimate objects, so they are kind of this in-universe as well as out.
* There's also the free-to-play MMO TPS ''[[http://www.cosmicbreak.com/home/ Cosmic]]''[[VideoGame/CosmicBreak Break]], where a part of robots are your usual mechs while others are mecha musume.
* Played with in ''VideoGame/GirlsFrontline''. The game is noted to have used some InsistentTerminology in Chinese adverts to not imply it as a game about anthropomorphized weapons, but somewhere along the lines of "just" GirlsWithGuns. Despite this, design elements are still mixed with moe anthropomorphism aspects, and most of the T-Dolls under your command are personification of various firearms. This is also justified, as historical and combat data of a weapon are used to determine the ideal physical shape, personality, and even mannerisms to best wield their specified weapon.
* The Triggerhearts from ''VideoGame/TriggerheartExelica'' are designed to resemble mecha musume.
* All of the RealRobot series in VideoGame/SuperCosplayWarUltra is done by a girl with only the ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Gundam Wing]]'' cosplay being the only exception.
* There are humanised versions of the romanceable birds in ''VisualNovel/HatofulBoyfriend'', visible in a brief portrait when you first meet them. The game claims this is the work of the ICPSS system showing the "birdiest bird" as human, though it fails with Okosan. It's clear from the text that the characters are still birds, and the manga [[http://mangafox.me/manga/heartful_kareshi/c001/2.html even states]] that the human appearances are just there to help beginners feel the bird-moe, but this doesn't stop some fans.

* ''[[http://crazygum.tv/gumkare/ Gum Kare!]]'' personifies ''chewing gum brands'' into hot, dateable young men. Played with in terms of the protagonist- She's supposed to represent the mouth eating the gum, so she's portrayed as a moe [[NonstandardCharacterDesign photorealistic tooth]].
* Mobile game ''[[http://www.kadenshojo.com/ Kaden Shoujo]]'' turns household electronics into cute girls.
* In ''VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX'', such a depiction of the Verus [[HumongousMecha Skell]] model is one of the numerous [[AnInteriorDesignerIsYou wall decals]] unlocked upon maxing out your BLADE level.
* The {{Yuri}} VisualNovel ''VisualNovel/HerTearsWereMyLight'' features time and space [[spoiler:plus nothingness]] as cute girls.
* The mobile RPG-turned-anime ''Anime/KemonoFriends'' originally had magic turn all the female animals in the world into cute girls.
* ''VideoGame/OshiroProject'' follows in the footsteps of ''Kantai Collection'' and ''Touken Ranbu'' by personifying castles as cute girls.
* ''VideoGame/UmaMusume'' personifies horses and has them compete in track-style events.

* [[Webcomic/DanAndMabsFurryAdventures Mab]], queen of cute things, is a fan of the webcomic ''Webcomic/{{Jack|DavidHopkins}}''.
