[[caption-width-right:265:When this is your wife, it certainly is [[Creator/MelBrooks "good to be the king"]].]]

->''"She's the kind of woman you'd expect to see as the beautiful consort to the corrupt generalissimo of a collapsing Third World country."''
-->--'''Literature/GoodOmens''', on [[LadyOfWar War]]

PowerIsSexy. But nothing says the sexy part has to be one-sided.

When you rule a country, you have a choice of anyone you want to be your spouse. Not to mention that if power tends to corrupt, alongside being sexy, then [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys women are often attracted to such corruption]] anyway. Must be married to them, or something close enough for tax purposes. Also applies to elected Presidents, powerful Prime Ministers and all round tyrants.

Note: being hot is not a guarantee against the husband [[TheMistress having a mistress]].

[[folder:Anime and Manga]]
* Emperor Daibazaal of ''GoLion'' had a concubine who looked a lot like Princess Fala. Unfortunately, he ends up having her killed.
* All the male love interests in ''MermaidMelodyPichiPichiPitch'', although, in the manga, [[spoiler:Hanon and Rina acknowledge that they'll have to eventually leave their human boyfriends to [[RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething rule their countries]] rather than have both.]]
* Marianne, one of Emperor Charles' wives in ''CodeGeass''.
* Henti and Nakia were this to King Suppiliniuma in AnatoliaStory. The main character Yuri Ishtar must pose as the concubine of Prince Kail [[spoiler: and by the end of the story she becomes his legal wife.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Animated]]
* Three of the {{Disney Princess}}es: Disney/{{Cinderella}}, [[Disney/BeautyAndTheBeast Belle]] and [[ThePrincessAndTheFrog Tiana]]. Male examples include Disney/{{Aladdin}}, [[Disney/{{Tangled}} Flynn]], and [[AtlantisTheLostEmpire Milo]], especially that in the case of [[{{Adorkable}} the last one mentioned,]] rather than becoming a prince he actually goes straight to becoming a ''king'' ([[Creator/CreeSummer the princess]] he married at the end of his film was already [[TheHighQueen a queen]] by the time of their marriage).
** In the case of the [[FurryFandom animal]] [[IncrediblyLamepun kingdom,]] there's also Disney/RobinHood, [[TheLionKing Sarabi, Nala, and Kovu.]]
* [[ThePrincessAndTheFrog Tiana]] becomes a princess after marrying Prince Naveen [[spoiler: though they both choose to run Tiana's restaurant instead of living in a castle.]]
* In ''[[WesternAnimation/{{Brave}} Brave]]'', [[HotMom Queen Elinor]] appears to be this to King Fergus... but the three tribes respect her more than him, as seen in the ballroom brawl. All she has to do is walk across the room and they'll bow and apologize.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* Rupert Friend as Prince Albert in ''Film/TheYoungVictoria.''
* Buttercup in ''Film/ThePrincessBride'', even if [[spoiler:she never actually got to be Queen and it was all a publicity stunt]].
* ''Film/{{Enchanted}}'' has Prince Edward and Nancy in a PairTheSpares moment at the end of the film.
* ''Film/{{Thor}}'' falls for HotScientist Jane Forster.
** Not to mention his parents Odin and Frigga.
* In ''Film/StargateContinuum'', in the changed timeline, Ba'al has Qet'esh as his Queen. Qet'esh being Vala with a Goa'uld in her. Not that she's satisfied with being [[TheStarscream just a consort]]...
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
* Arwen of ''LordOfTheRings''.
* Guinevere of the KingArthur legends.
* In ''{{Dune}}'', Paul marries the emperor's daughter, but also has Chani, who is basically his wife in everything but name.
** Paul's mother Jessica is this to her husband Leto. [[SilkHidingSteel Her looks aren't the only reason for this, though]].
* In ''TheWheelOfTime'', [[spoiler: Rand al'Thor]] ends up in a polygamous relationship with three super-hot women - [[spoiler: Elayne, Aviendha and Min]] - as his wives/consorts. It's good to be the [[spoiler: Dragon Reborn]]. Well, not really, but there are perks to it.
** [[spoiler: Faile]] to Perrin.
** Nynaeve (who'd have thought!?) to [[spoiler: Lan]].
** On the male side, [[spoiler: Mat]] is this to Tuon.
** So is Gawyn to [[spoiler: Egwene]].
** Lews Therin Telamon, Dragon Reborn and Lord of Morning, had his pick of this trope. He rejected Lanfear (one of the most beautiful and powerful, though completely egomaniacal, women of the Age of Legends) for Ilyena (equally beautiful and not [[GreenEyedMonster about to go over to the Shadow]]). Naturally, Lanfear is a little resentful. Even more delusional, but hey, that's why Lews Therin didn't stick it in the crazy. She still thinks that she's this trope to the current Dragon, and occasionally tries to warn off or kill the women he's interested in.
** Numerous more-mundane examples from amongst the royalty.
* Laisa in the Literature/VorkosiganSaga.
* [[spoiler:Voyaging Moon]] ("Precious Consort") in ''The Remarkable Journey of Prince Jen.''
* Buttercup in ''Literature/ThePrincessBride''. Humperdinck sought out the most beautiful woman in the world for his wife, and got her.
* Scheherazade in the Literature/ArabianNights
* Esther in Literature/TheBible, as well as the former queen that Esther replaced, Queen Vashti
** This was both a major plot point and their ''primary qualification'' for being queen. Esther is also GenreSavvy to exploit her good looks to favor her people.
* In Creator/DianaWynneJones's book ''Literature/DeepSecret,'' the protagonist meets High Lady Alexandra, one of the least important consorts to an emperor with dozens of wives and mistresses. Given how beautiful and intelligent she is, he speculates that after all his political marriages were accomplished he started picking ones like her for his own amusement.
* Cersei Lannister in ''ASongOfIceAndFire''.
** Later, Margaery Tyrell and for a while, Jayne Westerling.
* In TheRoyalDiaries book ''Elisabeth, The Princess Bride'' the Emperor defied his mother in his choice of who to marry because of Elisabeth's beauty and spirited nature.
* Men who marry the Princesses/Queens of ''Literature/ABrothersPrice'' are not called princes or kings, but consorts. [[HotGuysAreBastards Keifer]] was chosen because the elder princesses were smitten by his looks. Jerin has more going for him, but Ren does emphasize his beauty.
* ''Literature/LegacyOfTheDragokin'':
** Britanian laws says there can only be one monarch which means Kalak does little except look handsome next to Daniar.
** Defied for Rana. Traditionally she would have been this but Finn changed the law so she can rule ''with'' him instead of ''next to'' him.

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* The ''Series/StargateSG1'' series begins with Apophis raiding Earth and Abydos, looking for beautiful women he can implant with his queen Goa'uld.
* In ''Series/DoctorWho'', when the Master takes over Earth in "The Last of the Time Lords", he has a sexy wife. [[spoiler:Who shoots him dead and then sabotages his resurrection]].
* Anne Boleyn on ''Series/TheTudors''.
* In ''Series/{{Chuck}}'', Costa Gravas is a BananaRepublic ruled by the Communist Premier [[ArmandAssante Allejandro Goya]] after a coup in the 70s. His wife is shown to be a hot SpicyLatina. Subverted in that they were together even before the coup. After she attempts to overthrow him due to their marriage going sour, they reconcile, and he makes her Secretary of State.
* In ''Series/{{Blackadder}} Back and Forth'', [[spoiler: King Edmund III]] is married to gorgeous [[RobinHood Maid Marian]]. Lampshaded in the ending theme: "At last, a king who looks the part/ At last, a queen who looks good naked".
* Looks like Blair is going to be one in ''GossipGirl'', though it's anyone's guess if she'll actually go through with the marriage.
* ''Series/GameOfThrones''
** Queen Cersei Lannister for King Robert Baratheon.
** Margaery Tyrell for King Renly Baratheon [[spoiler:and later King Joffrey.]] Incidentally, played by NatalieDormer, who also played the aforementioned Anne Boleyn on ''The Tudors''.
* As of series 4 of ''Series/{{Merlin}}'', Guinevere has become Arthur's Queen Consort.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Videogames]]
* Depending on your choices at the [[SuccessionCrisis Landsmeet]], the ''player'' can become one of these in ''VideoGame/DragonAgeOrigins''. Or, depending of the gender, have one. [[TheMistress Or two]], if he plays his cards right.
* Some of the endings to the ''PrincessMaker'' games have her being a consort in some way. To either the DirtyOldMan King, the much younger and more handsome Prince (doubing as ChildhoodFriendRomance since they meet as kids [[spoiler: though she only knows him as a cadet of the realm]])... or [[{{Satan}} Lucifon the King of Hell]].
* ''Franchise/FireEmblem'' gives us many, many cases, often crossing into BattleCouple, BodyguardCrush, and/or ChildhoodFriendRomance. Also, it should be noted that not ALL of these cases are set in stone -- it mostly depends on your game strategies:
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemAkaneia'': For Marth, Caeda. [[spoiler: For Hardin, Nyna -- but this one ends up ''horribly''.]]
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemJugdral'': For [[spoiler: Emperor Arvis]], [[spoiler: Deirdre... but she was BrainwashedAndCrazy and he didn't know she was ''his half-sister''.]] For [[spoiler: Emperor Seliph]], potentially almost all of the girls but [[spoiler: Lana and Larcei]] get more chance. Also, any girl who romances a guy who gets to reign over the family's lands.
*** In ''Thracia 776'', [[spoiler: Nanna becomes this to Leif, provided she doesn't die in the game. If she perishes, [[TheFirstCutisTheDeepest Leif stays single for the rest of his life]].]]
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemElibe'':
*** ''Blazing Sword'': For Eliwood, it can be either [[spoiler: Ninian, Fiora or Lyndis]]. For Hector, either [[spoiler: Farina, Florina or Lyndis.]] It all depends on the support system. In the backstory, Helene is this for Desmond... but they're VERY unhappy.
*** ''Sword of Seals'': Either Sue, Lilina, Lalum, Cecilia, Sophia or Shanna, for Roy. (Lilina and him also manage to unite Ostia and Pherae in a single territory)
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemTheSacredStones'': For Ephraim, Tana or L'Arachel. For Innes, either L'Arachel, Vanessa or Eirika. For [[spoiler: Joshua]], either Marisa or Natasha.
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemTellius'': For Elincia, [[spoiler: Geoffrey]]. For [[spoiler: Micaiah]], [[spoiler: Sothe]]. [[spoiler: Almedha was this to Ashnard, but it's way more complicated.]]
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening'': For Chrom, either: a girl Avatar, Sumia, Sully, Maribelle, or Olivia.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender''
** Princess Ursa never did get to be Fire Lady, since she was banished before Fire Lord Ozai's coronation [[spoiler: for assassinating the previous Fire Lord and therefore putting Ozai on the throne.]]
** It's heavily implied by the show's finale that Mai is set to become one for Zuko, now that he's been crowned Fire Lord and though the identity of her mother hasn't yet been confirmed, in ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'' Zuko's daughter is the reigning Fire Lord, and her son is one of the generals of the United Forces. Named after [[CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming Zuko's beloved uncle, Iroh]].
