-> ''"Just decided I would write this as a showing of my NEVER-ENDING HATRED for WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents. ^-^ they TOOK. AWAY. MY. DEAREST. GIR! I do not own WesternAnimation/InvaderZim or The Fairly Odd Parents"''.
-->-- '''Invader Cakez''', ''[[https://web.archive.org/web/20120422133133/https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6955222/1/Invader_Zims_Revenge Invader Zim's Revenge]]''

Simply put, Hate Fic is RevengeFic on a series-wide scale. The author sets out to deliberately attack an entire show, either through simply mocking it and its characters or by the techniques of {{Deconstruction}}.

Done well, this could lead to a DeconstructorFleet as the author breaks down what exactly ''didn't'' work in the original show. When done poorly, this often takes the form of a badly-done UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny, which attempts to discredit a show based on unfavorable comparison with another rather than by any serious examination of the target series's actual flaws; instead, they tend to abound with heinous characters (including the protagonists), {{Straw Loser}}s, [[TimeToUnlockMoreTruePotential massive powerups]], {{plot hole}}s, [[AuthorFilibuster long lectures of what sucks]] from the {{canon}} and why, torturing/mutating the characters into copies of how they "should be" (if not plain [[ColdBloodedTorture torturing/mutating the characters]], period) and loads and loads of cynicism.

Invariably, this leads to cries of "If you hate the show so much, [[DontLikeDontRead why bother writing about it]]?"

When this is done in commercially-published work, it's an extreme example of an ExternalRetcon.

Note: It is a Hate Fic '''only if it covers an entire series'''. Examples that focus on a single character belong under RevengeFic.

!!Examples:

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Anime and Manga]]

* One of the most famous examples is the Creator/EyrieProductionsUnlimited fanfic ''FanFic/NeonExodusEvangelion'', written in response to Gryphon's disgust for what he felt was the [[TooBleakStoppedCaring pointless nihilism]] of ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion.'' The man receives so much hatemail from enraged fanboys that if it were all paper, the rain forests would be screaming. [[{{Troll}} He considers the fanfic a success.]]
** There are even a few fanfics written that are hate fics against hate fics. An example includes ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6362692/1/Kyrie_Eleison Kyrie Eleison]]'', which from the first paragraph states it was written to deconstruct fics like ''Neon Exodus Evangelion''.
* One day, an angry ''Anime/VoltesV'' fanboy decided to take ''Anime/{{Voltron}}'' and its characters, replace their canon heroic personalities with countless [[TheWarOnStraw straw attributes]], mostly the {{demonization}} kind; get Voltes V and countless other [[SuperRobot Super Robots]] plus ''Series/SpaceSheriffShaider'' to always hand the Voltron Team's asses to them; repeat the same formula for the next 84 chapters; and the internet got ''Fanfic/VoltesVVersusVoltronTheGodaikinWars''.
* Although most of ''WebVideo/DragonBallZAbridged'' is an AffectionateParody, some of the abridged versions of the various movies fall into this, though the results [[Administrivia/TropesAreTools tend to be well-received regardless:]]
** ''Anime/DragonBallEpisodeOfBardock Abridged'' completely skewers the original by having the narrator outright state it only exists for merchandising, having Bardock shown to completely loathe the Saiyan ancestors to the point of going in a violent rage against them, and has Bardock turn Super Saiyan not because he's upset at Chilled attacking the alien rage but because he's angry at how stupid the plot is. It also ends with the reveal that [[spoiler: it was all a story made up by Goku to tell Gohan, which in turn was just something Gohan was just dreaming.]]
** ''Anime/BrolyTheLegendarySuperSaiyan Abridged'' isn't quite as scathing as ''Episode of Bardock'', but it still doesn't hide Creator/TeamFourStar's contempt for Broly, with Vegeta spending the back-half of the film having a breakdown over [[DisappointedByTheMotive how stupid Broly's motivation is]], and all the main characters being completely sick of Broly by the end of it, bringing up all of the past movie villains and wishing they could fight them instead.
** Subverted by ''[[Anime/DragonBallZDeadZone Dead Zone]] Abridged'': Although most of the humor comes from lampshading the heavy amount of {{Plot Hole}}s in the original, and ends with a reveal similar to the one in ''Episode of Bardock'' ([[spoiler:where it was all just a movie being pitched by Krillin to Nappa]]) but TFS have praised the movie and gave it a very high ranking on their list of the best DBZ films (Number 5, ahead of ''Anime/DragonBallZFusionReborn'' and ''Anime/DragonBallZResurrectionF'')
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* ''ComicBook/{{Three}}'' started as an open Hate Fic of Creator/FrankMiller's ''ComicBook/ThreeHundred''. Being aware of the existence of the Helots and the abuse they got from their Spartan masters (even by Ancient standards), writer Kieron Gillen was incensed by the [[HistoricalHeroUpgrade glorified portrayal of the Spartan warriors]] in ''300'' while the Helots weren't even mentioned, and decided to do a comic series where the image of Sparta would be as [[HistoricalVillainUpgrade over-the-top negative]] as the one Persia got in ''300''. However, while [[ShownTheirWork doing more research]], Gillen realized that he actually found real history more interesting than this approach, and decided to go for a more neutral view, picturing the Spartan characters as flawed, three-dimensional human beings, who were almost as much victims of their nation's [[ProudWarriorRace militaristic culture and expectations]] as the Helots were of their slave condition.
* This trope happens frequently when Pat Mills (''ComicBook/MarshalLaw'') and Creator/GarthEnnis (''ComicBook/TheBoys'') are working on comics about superheroes. Ennis' ''ComicBook/ThePunisherKillsTheMarvelUniverse'' is pretty much thirty-nine pages of Frank Castle curb-stomping all superheroes [[spoiler:and committing suicide when he discovers [[ComicBook/{{Daredevil}} one of them]] was a childhood friend of his.]]
* Creator/JoeQuesada's ''ComicBook/OneMoreDay'' and ''ComicBook/OneMomentInTime'' are essentially responses to "The Wedding!" (''Amazing Spider-Man'' Annual #21). His dislike for the marriage between ComicBook/SpiderMan and ComicBook/MaryJaneWatson (if not necessarily either or both characters) extends to repeated diatribes about the marriage being a mistake, and also snide putdowns on famous moments in that annual. For instance a panel image in "The Wedding" Annual where Peter, Harry, and Flash raise a toast in celebration to Peter's nuptials (three hands raising glasses above) becomes reused for the end of OMD where Peter and others raise a toast to a ComicBook/BrandNewDay celebrating the single life, snidely inverting the original emotional context on its head.
* ''ComicBook/TransformersDeviations'' is an officially licensed one to the movie and season three of ''WesternAnimation/TheTransformers''. Every Bot and Con who would've been in season 3 dies unceremoniously while the Junkions are pretty much ignored. Hot Rod gets verbally abused and keeps screwing up until the very end, where he at least gets to open the Matrix and is remembered as Rodimus Prime posthumously. It's telling that Website/TFWikiDotNet calls it an "embarrassing 1994-era [[UsefulNotes/{{Usenet}} alt.toys.transformers]] fanfic in official comic form".
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* ''Fanfic/AtTheFoodCourt'' was written as one to the works of controversial ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'' fanfic writer Cori Falls, though it specifically targets ''The Prodigal Parents'' by showing a more sympathetic side to Ash's [[{{Manchild}} condition]] in that fic (as well as condemning Jessie and James, {{Designated Hero}}es in the original, for putting him in that state).
* A strange case with ''FanFic/BrewdeningLove'' and its [[FanFic/BrewdeningLoveExpandedUniverse Expanded Universe]]. The fanfic in question is a TrollFic by a ''[[Literature/TheTwilightSaga Twlight]]'' fan who hates Bella. ''Twilight'' anti-fans took this fic and wrote [[RecursiveFanfiction fanfic of it]], mostly featuring [[SlashFic Brugo slash]]. So we have Hate Fics of a fanfic that hates on Bella and Jacob. ''Then'', Author Erin Locklea added RevengeFic chapters that put internet critics into the story and had them killed, so the circle is now complete.
* The controversial ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' fanfiction ''FanFic/TheConversionBureau'' has ''[[https://www.fimfiction.net/story/31216/The-Conversion-Bureau%3A-Thus-Saith-The-Lord The Conversion Bureau: Thus Saith The Lord]]'', where the Old Testament God proceeds to go on a rampage against Princess Celestia and the Ponies.
* Keyseeker's ''WesternAnimation/MiraculousLadybug'' fanfic ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/25474393/chapters/61793125 Divergent Points: ML Salt]]'' is a TakeThat towards the FandomSpecificPlot of "Salt Fics", demonstrating just how much [[RonTheDeathEater twisting of character is needed for them to work]]. A special emphasis is put on their tendency to [[DisproportionateRetribution overpunish]] characters for their flaws.
* ''League of Angels: The Devil's Gambit'' is a fanfic that was written by the author to get revenge on a group of people who MST'd his previous work, which was ''also'' a RevengeFic against the same people for mocking some other person's fic. The whole fic becomes a barely-comprehensible mess that combines reckless hate against his critics, a fanfic author that rejected his offer at revenge on the group, and the Trump Administration with the hero of the fic getting sexed up by multiple girls across multiple games and anime, including ''Franchise/FireEmblem'' and ''Anime/AkameGaKill.''
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
%%* ''Right Behind'' and its sequel ''Supergeddon'' for ''Literature/LeftBehind''.
* The ''Literature/{{Gor}}'' series is infamous for its depiction of a world based on sex slavery and how the heroes are the ones enforcing it. As such, [[https://archiveofourown.org/tags/Gor%20Chronicles%20-%20John%20Norman/works nearly half]] of its fics on Website/ArchiveOfOurOwn qualify as this, with a popular plot focusing on a [[ShowyInvincibleHero deliberately overpowered]] female character being transported to Gor, murdering the slavers and rapists, and smashing the whole system to bits.
* ''Literature/InheritanceCycle'' has attracted a lot of fanfiction dedicated to bashing the hell out of it, with ''FanFic/TheStormDragons'' among the most well-known examples.
* ''[[Literature/TheTwilightSaga Twlight]]'' has been the subject of a lot of this, especially in the heyday of its ''breathtakingly'' massive (and vocal) PeripheryHatedom. For example, [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5954408/1/Killing_the_Cullens one]] about [[Manga/DeathNote Light Yagami]] killing the Cullens and Bella.
* ''FanFic/TheLastRingbearer'' for ''Literature/TheLordOfTheRings'', which whitewashes Mordor and demonizes the good races, the protagonists and magic in general.
* ''Roleplay/VictoriaFalls'' is this for ''Literature/{{Victoria}}''. The ''entire premise'' of the quest is destroying Victoria and all it stands for in an effort to revive the United States.
* Niel Gaiman's short story ''Literature/TheProblemOfSusan'' is a blunt expression of how much Gaiman despises ''Literature/TheLastBattle''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* [[Series/BarneyAndFriends Barney]]'s PeripheryHatedom spawned many vitriolic hate-fics of varying quality (much of them {{MST}}-worthy). Perhaps most prominent is the FanFic/DayOfTheBarneyTrilogy, wherein Barney is an EldritchAbomination who brainwashes the children of the world into murdering their parents so he can TakeOverTheWorld.
* The Federation from ''Franchise/StarTrek'', especially after ''Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration'', is frequently portrayed as a [[RedScare semi-communist dystopia]], only averting the worst horrors of the stereotype due to their AppliedPhlebotinum. The website [=StarDestroyer.net=] is famous for [[FlameWar advocating and supporting this view]], as seen in [[http://stardestroyer.net/Empire/Essays/Trek-Marxism.html this essay]].
** This [[http://bbs.stardestroyer.net/viewtopic.php?t=75690 fanfic(?)]] shows how the Federation could go from the ''TOS'' to ''TNG'' in a disturbingly realistic way.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live-Action Films]]
* ''Fanfic/CoolCatAndTheBeautyOfWarAndDestruction'' was clearly written by someone who despises [[Film/CoolCatSavesTheKids Cool Cat]] and [[Creator/DerekSavage Daddy Derek]], portraying the former as an incompetent buffoon who's the reason his mother [[TheAlcoholic is an alcoholic]] and the latter as a {{Manchild}} who's roasted in a rap by [[Film/AmericanPsycho Patrick Bateman]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Animation]]
* ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}''
** The author of ''WebVideo/RWBYAlternate'' has a lot of distaste for the original story and sees his videos as "better" than it, to the point that the series was initially called "RWBY But Better" when it started. SmallNameBigEgo much?
** ''WebVideo/FixingRWBY'' is much the same. The author refers to it as ""a show with infinite potential left to squander in a desert of idiocy." The fic consistently diverts from the themes present in canon, alters characters to the point that [[InNameOnly they bear no resemblance to their canon counterparts]], and includes [[AuthorTract tracts]] about the failings of the original show and how his version is superior.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Comics]]
* Pretty much all ''Webcomic/{{Sonichu}}'' fanfics are this, the most famous being ''Webcomic/{{Asperchu}}''. Most portray the city of [[{{Egopolis}} CWCville]] (where the comic takes place) as [[{{Dystopia}} a totalitarian state]] with AuthorAvatar Christian Weston Chandler as its dictator.
* [[http://www.pennyandaggie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3547 This one]] about ''Webcomic/PennyAndAggie'' is ridiculously homophobic, racist, and otherwise hateful and violent... but the comments left by Penny and Aggie's readers make it worthwhile.
* ''Fanfic/CWCollateralATaleOfTheResistance'' is one of the infamous ''Webcomic/{{Sonichu}}'' comic. It depicts the source material as in-universe propaganda put out by the mayor of [=CWCville=] to legitimize his oppressive regime, and follows the exploits of the struggles of the resistance organization PVCC to free their homes and the human race from the rein of the Chus.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* The DeadFic ''[[https://web.archive.org/web/20120422133133/https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6955222/1/Invader_Zims_Revenge Invader Zim's Revenge,]]'' which provides the page quote, was written in response to the cancellation of ''WesternAnimation/InvaderZim'', focusing on Zim attacking ''WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents'', believed by the author to be the show responsible for the cancellation.
* A truly bizarre case with ''FanFic/MyBravePonyStarfleetMagic'', a ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' [[MindScrew fanfic-that-isn't-a-fanfic]] written by an author who makes no secret of his loathing for the show and its themes.
* From the [[Creator/DakariKingMykan same author]] is ''Fanfic/FriendshipIsFailure'', a series of fanfics entailing Twilight Sparkle and co. setting out to solve friendship problems but [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin failing every single time]] because most of the characters refuse the concept for one reason or another. The author makes it more clear than ever that he despises the themes of friendship, believing the show to be saying that it's the only way to happiness and "brainwashing" people into believing in such. Some stories entail the ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans'' and have one of his many {{Revenge Fic}}s involving the show play out, and he's gotten Equestria destroyed quite a few times doing this.
* ''Fanfic/EmbersVathara'' absolutely brutalizes ''everyone'' in ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'' except the [[RootingForTheEmpire Fire Nation]] in general and [[DracoInLeatherPants Zuko]] in particular (though the [[SecretPolice Dai Li]] also get a few inches of whitewashing). Strangely for a Zuko-centric fic, [[LauncherOfAThousandShips Katara]] not only doesn't end up falling for the [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys brooding Fire Prince]], but gets tortured ''even worse'' than every character save [[TakeThatScrappy Aang]] (whose Nation is {{Retcon}}ned to be EvilAllAlong and his canon relationship with Katara is [[BrokenPedestal severely damaged]]), stated ''InUniverse'' to be punishment for hating Zuko.
* ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse'':
** ''Fanfic/TheDarknessBetweenStars'' is an odd version of this. The authors state that they actually ''loved'' the show... right up until the episode "A Single Pale Rose" turned all the story's themes on its head and proceeded to let the villains be EasilyForgiven for their genocidal and authoritarian actions. The story is a DeconstructionFic [[AlternateUniverse diverging from that episode]] that addresses criticisms the authors had with the canon and provides what they believe to be a more thematically consistent resolution. Several scenes from canon are directly referenced with very pointed criticisms.
** ''VideoGame/FlawedCrystals'' is by the same authors as the above, and is a similar DeconstructionFic, this time even more directly: [[spoiler:The canon ending is revealed to be AllJustADream, and is subjected to ''scathing'' criticism by the characters in the story, portraying it as a nonsensical mess of {{Plot Hole}}s and CharacterDerailment that can only be explained as a sick wish-fulfillment fantasy of Steven's.]] Steven in particular is portrayed as a self-centered narcissist with a god complex who only helps people to fuel his fantasy of being a beloved savior. [[https://archiveofourown.org/works/21257453/chapters/56586208 The author commentary]] outright calls him "a terrifying, awful person" and that "no one but the diamonds deserve to suffer his twisted, possessive, controlling idea of 'love'." (They do, however, go on to say that they liked Steven before his character took this turn in the final episodes, and his CharacterDevelopment in the fangame is something of a FixFic in this regard.)
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Multiple Media]]
* ''FanFic/ChuninExamDay'' and ''Fanfic/PartiallyKissedHero'' by Perfect [=LionHeart=] (aka Jared "Skysaber" Ornstead) are both this in their core (for ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'' and ''Franchise/HarryPotter'' respectively)... at least when they are not [[AuthorTract spewing his morality]] [[EvilVersusEvil (given a deeply twisted definition of "morality")]] and [[DisproportionateRetribution sense of "justice" and revenge]]. Fans are divided between those who believe the guy is a genius-level writer (both fics have over 10,000 reviews) and the rest who believe he is pure evil and a deranged psychopath with very few touches of the actual canon.
** His newest fic, ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11359049/1/Stepping-On-Worm Stepping on Worm]]'', does the same for ''{{Literature/Worm}}'', and the title speaks for itself.
* ''FanFic/ThePrayerWarriors'' is essentially any hardcore [[TheFundamentalist fundamentalist]] wackjob's fantasy. The entire narrative (if you can even call it that) is devoted to vilifying and brutally murdering characters from "pagan" [[note]]read: [[InsaneTrollLogic tenuously]] contrary to [[UsefulNotes/{{Christianity}} the Christian faith]][[/note]] franchises such as ''Literature/HarryPotter'' and ''Literature/PercyJacksonAndTheOlympians''. [[PoesLaw It was confirmed to be]] a TrollFic in 2021.
* The ''Fanfic/MRATrilogy'' is a series of {{Troll Fic}}s involving a FemaleMisogynist who fights for the MRA. She and her allies journey to twisted versions of [[WesternAnimation/Frozen2013 Arendelle]], the ''Franchise/MassEffect'' universe, and ''WesternAnimation/TheLandBeforeTime'' to destroy all "feminazis".
