[[caption-width-right:270:If you only knew the ''POWER'' of the dark glove!]]

When the BigBad wants to visually flex his power, he shoves his hands into big (usually black) gloves with an upward thrusting motion, then makes an evil fist ([[MilkingTheGiantCow although a clawed semi-fist, as if clutching something unseen, is sometimes also done]]). Putting on the gloves while doing this can be optional (in an upward move similar to a GloveSnap). Actually wearing gloves while making the gesture can be optional, but the gloves seem to add ''gravitas'' to the move. For extra points, we get a scrunchy-leathery-rubbery sound effect as the fist is clenched.

Pretty much a MadScientist staple, but the fisted glove is also a trope of megalomaniacs in general, showing off their power.

Could also be an EvilHand, and include a FistOfRage. When it's a MadDoctor performing it, it might also ''include'' a GloveSnap. When the heroes do it, it's a BicepPolishingGesture. Compare MilkingTheGiantCow. Not related to a [[VictoryPose Victory Fist Pump]], though it may be related to the anime FistPump. Not to be confused with GiantHandsOfDoom. Also not to be confused with the PowerFist. Or the [[AngryBlackMan Black Power Fist]].

[[folder: {{Anime}} & {{Manga}}]]
* When Colonel Roy Mustang in ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'' [[spoiler:prepares to fake the killing of Maria Ross]], there is a scene of him putting on his trademark "ignition gloves" in the classic evil fashion, complete with a closeup of the flame transmutation circle. [[spoiler:Subverted in that he only pretends to kill her to create cover for her escape, using a pile of meat transmuted into a fake carcass as a decoy Ross, and thus does not do anything evil. [[WhatTheHellHero Not that Ed]] [[HeroicBSOD knew that at the time.]]]]
* Sakura Haruno of ''{{Naruto}}'' inverts the trope, usually with a nice GloveSnap to go with it. She's one of the good guys, but if she uses this gesture then [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKKSNEu6TrQ beware]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder: ComicBooks]]
* This is practically a prerequisite for anyone who puts on the InfinityGauntlet, both villain AND hero alike.
* The aptly-named SelfDemonstrating/DoctorDoom does this a lot, both closed- and open-fisted.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: {{Film}}]]
* The prototypical MadScientist, Rotwang, [[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Rotwang_7723.gif does this]] in ''Film/{{Metropolis}}'' (though he never does quite close his fist; his hand was said to have been prosthetic). Possibly the UrExample and TropeMaker.
* [[StarWars Darth Vader]] does this so often he comes close to being the TropeCodifier. "If you only knew the ''[[http://www.gunaxin.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/darth-vader.jpg power]]'' of the Dark Side..." "Luke, ''join me''..."
** For bonus GlovedFistOfDoom, there was a kids' EU novel titled "The Glove of Darth Vader" and it was about the eponymous glove as a MementoMacGuffin. Presumably the bad guy made this gesture some more after he found it.
*** Actually, it really ''was'' an [[ArtifactOfDoom Gloved fist of Doom.]] It burned and eventually drove whoever wore it insane. Naturally the bad guys wanted it anyway.
* In what ''has'' to be an ActorAllusion, Thulsa Doom (played by Creator/JamesEarlJones) does a non-gloved variant in ''Film/ConanTheBarbarian1982'' when lecturing Conan about the uselessness of steel compared to the hand that wields it.
* ''Film/StreetFighter''. General M. Bison (RaulJulia) [[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pax_bisonica_6219.jpg clenches a gloved (red) fist]] in an upward motion as he exclaims, "Pax Bisonica!"
** He also does a double-fisted one when he shouts, "[[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/DELICOIUS_8192.png Game Over!]]". He was almost as fond of this move as Darth Vader.
* Boromir does this at least once while contemplating the power of [[Film/TheLordOfTheRings the Ring]].
** As does the [[TheDragon Witch-King]] during the lead-up to his dramatic reveal in Return of the King.
* ''Film/WhoFramedRogerRabbit''. While in the Acme factory, Judge Doom pulls on a large rubber glove before putting a [[KickTheDog Toon shoe]] in the Dip. ([[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL1PaWQ-BI8#t=3m43s Watch it here, 4:00-5:20]]. He doesn't make the fist, but he does put it on menacingly.
** Of course, it is perfectly reasonable for the judge to don menacing gloves since [[spoiler:it is revealed later that he is a toon himself and the glove is for his protection...]]
*** [[spoiler:Given the chemicals stated to be present in Dip, a normal human would get nasty chemical burns putting their hand in it as well, so this isn't exactly telling on Doom's part. Heck, even standing in the presence of the stuff would likely cause severe tissue damage to the linings of the lungs.]]
* [[http://colewebbharter.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/great-dictator-4.jpg Parodied (sans glove)]] by Creator/CharlieChaplin in ''Film/TheGreatDictator''.
* In ''Film/DeathRace2000'' the Flag of the United Provinces featured a gloved fist with a lightning bolt running up the side. This symbol appears all over the place in the movie.

* Gwendolyn Post, the evil Watcher, does this after putting on the magical power glove in the ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'' episode "Revelations".

[[folder: VideoGames]]
* Shockingly, Yuna does this in a moment of rebelliousness in Final Fantasy X-2.
* Magus in ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'' adjusts his gloves like this while charging a spell. There is no discernible reason why he would need to do this, but damned if it doesn't look cool.
* Ansem / Xehanort's Heartless ends his "Darkness is the heart's true essence" speech in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI'' with one of these.
* ''[[CityOfHeroes City of Heroes]]''' first expansion--''City of Villains''--had boxart that featured PresidentEvil Lord Recluse in the open-fisted pose. Moreover, [[PuttingOnTheReich Nazi-inspired]] villain (and [[StreetFighter M. Bison-lookalike]]) Reichsman raises a gloved fist ''in the middle of a fight'' before punching the ground with enough force to knock out PlayerCharacters' HitPoints and [[ManaMeter Endurance]]. [[GlovedFistOfDoom Gloved Fist of Doom]], indeed.
* Illidan Stormrage does this in the opening cinematic of ''VideoGame/WarcraftIII: The Frozen Throne''. He's conjuring up a storm to summon minions from the bottom of the sea.
* Liquid Snake does this so frequently in ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid'' one can tell when he's doing his whole SplitPersonalityTakeover didjeridoo when Revolver Ocelot [[http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/File:LiquidOcelotMGS4.jpg starts posing in this fashion]] in ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid2'' and ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid4''. [[spoiler: Or faking it, in the latter case.]]
* Not surprisingly, many of the Empire [=NPC=]s in ''VideoGame/StarWarsTheOldRepublic'' do this often.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Original]]
* DoctorSteel does this near the beginning of ''The Dr. Steel Show'', [[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/experimenttime_4442.jpg episode 2]] (actually pulling gloves on over his gloves!), and is sometimes depicted that way in his propaganda art and [[www.doctorsteelarchives.com/wp-content/gallery/dr-steel/3644.jpg photos]].
* [[WebVideo/DoctorHorriblesSingAlongBlog Dr. Horrible]] does it at least once, at the end of the Sing-Along Blog, [[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/horriblefist_4964.jpg just before he enters the room to join the Evil League of Evil.]] Symbolically, they look just like Captain Hammer's gloves.

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* [[GIJoe Cobra Commander]] often does this.
* Dr. Drakken does this in ''KimPossible'', often two-fisted.
* Though he never dons gloves, [[WesternAnimation/DespicableMe Gru]] does this when he announces his plans to steal the moon.
* Syndrome does it in ''TheIncredibles'', with a [[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/syndrome1_9808.bmp semi-closed fist]] (reversing the trope with ''white'' gloves).
* Jaffar in Disney/{{Aladdin}} makes the move - sans gloves - when he turns into a genie. "ULTIMATE COSMIC POWER!"

* Recent studies have shown that clenching one's fist in this manner does indeed increase one's sense of power and increase willpower. Especially if you're thinking evil thoughts while doing so. (see: Schubert, T.W., & Koole, S.L. (2009). The embodied self: Making a fist enhances menís power-related self-conceptions. Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, 45, 828Ė834.)
* BenitoMussolini loved to do this gesture during speeches, [[http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/9440/mussolini2.jpg though not always wearing gloves]].
** AdolfHitler [[http://www.hirhome.com/israel/hitler.jpg was known for it too]].
