Girls With Guns describes a sub-genre of [[ActionAdventureTropes action media]] that focuses on strong female leads being awesome with firearms. May or may not involve HeroicBloodshed. It was developed somewhere in the Hong Kong film industry and has since made itself a genre that is often used in anime. Usually involves gun fights, stunts and martial arts.

SmallGirlBigGun is a subtrope--Girls With Guns aren't necessarily small, and their guns aren't necessarily big. Yeah-heh.

Compare SuperheroPackingHeat. See also TheOtherWiki's page [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girls_with_guns on the subject]].

'''Note that this page describes a genre, not a character trope.''' Individual examples of Girls With Guns go on TheGunslinger.

[[folder: Anime & Manga]]
* BeeTrain and Koichi Mashimo in particular deserve a special recognition for popularizing the genre with their trilogy:[[note]]Mashimo was also the director of the LightNovel/DirtyPair Movie ''Project EDEN''[[/note]].
** ''Anime/{{Noir}}''
** ''Anime/{{Madlax}}''
** ''Anime/ElCazadorDeLaBruja''
* ''Manga/GunslingerGirl'' ([[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin though you should have known that from the title]])
** The title of the intro theme to the image album is "Ragazza Col Fucile". [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin the trope name (singular), in Italian]]
*** More precisely, "girl with a rifle".
** The series could almost count as a {{Deconstruction}} of the genre, with the girls becoming badass {{Child Soldier}}s though extreme mental conditioning and cyberization, drastically shortening their lifespan to the point that none of them will live to see 18. There's a good amount of good old-fashioned ass-kicking, but the series is mostly about playing the premise for all the tragedy it's worth.
* ''LightNovel/DirtyPair'' (probably kicked off the genre, at least within anime)
* ''GunsmithCats''
* ''Anime/{{Kite}}'' (and ''Kite Liberator'', too)
* ''NajicaBlitzTactics'' and ''Anime/AgentAika''.
* ''BurstAngel''
* ''{{Grenadier}}''
* Creator/ShirowMasamune obviously [[AuthorAppeal has a fetish]] for Girls With Guns: though the boys get to play as well, the main characters in his books are usually female, and spend much of their time toting, and being awesome with, guns. (Or in one case, ''tanks''). Some of his works:
** ''Franchise/GhostInTheShell''
** ''Manga/{{Appleseed}}''
** ''Anime/DominionTankPolice''
* ''{{Canaan}}''
* ''Anime/MezzoForte'' and ''Anime/MezzoDSA''
* weborginal rwby features this strongly, focusing on four young girls who use hybrid weapons to hunt monsters.
* ''Early Reins'': [[DieHardOnAnX Die Hard on a train]], in TheWildWest, with six girls with guns as the heroes.
* ''Manga/BlackLagoon'' has Revy, Roberta, Balalaika, and the entire church of violence. Practically every fighter that survives for [[{{Mooks}} more than a episode]] is a woman. Fetish, anyone?
* ''{{Upotte}}'' is about [[MoeAnthropomorphism girls who ARE guns.]]
* ''Anime/GirlsUndPanzer'' has girls playing with very big guns...on tanks!
* ''Manga/TokureiSochiDantaiStellaJogakuinKoutoukaC3Bu'' is about a JapaneseSchoolClub revolving around guns usage and mock battles.

* ''ComicBook/WynonnaEarp''
* ''ComicBook/{{Agent327}}: Olga Lawina, who is a female spy.

* Hong Kong action cinema has many examples of the genre in question.
** ''SoClose''
* ''Battleship''
* Andy Sedaris films are known for girls with big guns and other big things.
* ''[[Film/{{DEBS}} D.E.B.S.]]''
* ''GunCrazy''
* ''Film/SuckerPunch'' (among being [[GenreBusting many other things]])
* ''AssaultGirls''
* ''Film/AngelsRevenge''
* ''Film/TheQuickAndTheDead'' has the Lady, who is commonly remarked upon as she's the only woman in the gunfighting tournament.
* ''Film/{{Colombiana}}''
* Referenced in ''Film/JackieBrown'': we don't see the two female leads packing much heat, but in the scene where [[Creator/SamuelLJackson Ordell]] is introduced he's watching a video of a woman in a bikini shooting an automatic weapon.
* ''Film/{{Mercenaries}}'' is essentially a distaff counterpart to ''The Expendables'' and features copious amounts of guns and girls.

* The short story anthology ''A Girl's Guide to Guns and Monsters'' ([[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin also features monsters]])
* ''Literature/ABrothersPrice'', when it's not being a RomanceNovel, is this thanks to a combination of WorldOfActionGirls and the invention of firearms.
* ''Literature/DamselsOfDistress'': The title comes from the all-female mercenary gang. Of the six members, only two are not familiar with firearms.

[[folder: LiveAction TV]]
* ''Series/{{Revolution}}'': Charlotte "Charlie" Matheson started out as an archer with a bow and arrow. By [[Recap/RevolutionS1E10NobodysFaultButMine episode 10]], she has dropped that weapon in favour of guns.
* ''TheSarahConnorChronicles'': The title character is a girl who's harder than nuclear nails. A female cyborg often acts as her partner.

[[folder: Theatre]]
* ''AnnieGetYourGun'' obviously.
* ''{{Brand}}'' by {{Henrik Ibsen}} has Gerd, the beggar girl, famously carrying a rifle and effectively ending the whole play with a single shot.

[[folder: Tabletop Games]]
* ''MachoWomenWithGuns''
* ''TabletopGame/{{Warhammer 40000}}'' has got an entire ''[[AmazonBrigade army]]'' of them, in the form of the [[ChurchMilitant Adeptas Sororitas]]. Fans occasionally refer to them as [[FanNickname "Nuns with Guns"]] and "Bolter Bitches".

[[folder: Western Animation]]
* ''WesternAnimation/AeonFlux'' is based around the titular hot female assassin.
