'''theyoshifanboy:''' So True :) Though in my opinion, the bigger they are, the cuter they are :3

Cuteness is often [[FunSize associated with smallness]], but sometimes characters or creatures can look cute despite, or even partly because of, how big they are. This is the essence of the [[TitleDrop cute giant]].

Of course, cuteness is not so much about size as about various physical traits that are hard to pin down. Nevertheless, the association of cuteness with a giant does end up seeming contradictory.

Compare/contrast with GentleGiant, but remember, some giants can be [[CuteIsEvil cute but not gentle]], or [[TheGrotesque gentle but not cute]].

See also CanisMajor and MegaNeko, examples of which tend to double as this for [[PreciousPuppies obvious]] [[CuteKitten reasons]]. A GiantWoman can often be this as well.

!! Examples:

[[folder: Anime and Manga ]]

* An episode of ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanoha'' had a kitten come into contact with one of the Jewel Seeds, which granted its wish of wanting to grow up... and grow it did, becoming as tall as the trees. Despite being giant, it still acted like a kitten, not aggressive at all. Provided the page image for MegaNeko.
* Mana Emiya from ''Manga/SuperDreadnoughtGirl4946''.
%%* ''Anime/MyNeighborTotoro''has Totoro and the Catbus.
* Princess Shirahoshi from ''Manga/OnePiece''.
** Also, a couple of the giant kids during the Punk Hazard arc. They aren't naturally gigantic, since their massive growth is the aside effect of the medicines they took.
* Kyaa from ''Manga/PleaseSaveMyEarth''.
* ''Webcomic/AxisPowersHetalia'': We have [[NationsAsPeople Russia]] [[AnthropomorphicPersonification personified]] as a [[HuskyRusskie buff and strong 6-foot-tall man]], who is also quite baby-faced and has the [[ManChild mentality of a child]]. [[PsychopathicManchild A very cruel, manipulative, creepy child]]...[[CreepyCute but still adorable]].
* Diane, the Serpent's Sin of Envy from ''Manga/TheSevenDeadlySins'', a giant who has the appearance of a beautiful teenaged girl.
* Tio from Manga/DailyLifeWithMonsterGirl, a 227cm (7'4") tower of a girl who works for an extraspecies SWAT Team, goes full on ''GenkiGirl'' at the sight of anything cute, acts as the full on [[TheHeart heart]] of the team thanks to her warming presence, and in general has one of the cheeriest, kindest, and sweetest personalities in the entire series, even managing to make the most obstinate or well prepared characters like Kii and Polt melt like butter absolutely effortlessly in front of her.

[[folder: Films -- Animated]]

* [[GiantWoman Ginormica]] and Insectosaurus from ''WesternAnimation/MonstersVsAliens''.
%%* WesternAnimation/TheIronGiant.
* ''WesternAnimation/PussInBoots'' has the Golden Goose's mother, who is bigger than most buildings in town, yet is essentially a giant goose.
* ''Disney/TheRescuersDownUnder'' has Marahute the giant eagle. Also, to mice, humans are giants, so naturally human children will qualify as cute giants from the perspective of the mice as well.

[[folder: Films -- Live-Action ]]

* ''Film/HoneyIBlewUpTheKid'' is all about this; a toddler is made taller than many buildings due to a mistake with a device.
* Hagrid's brother Grawp in ''Film/HarryPotter'' acts like a child and is much friendlier than he appears.
* [[http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff435/Soundpulse/sglittlegodzilla1.jpg Little Godzilla]], from the ''Franchise/{{Godzilla}}'' films.
* The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from ''Film/{{Ghostbusters 1984}}'' is an adorable mascot, and Gozer's destruction takes on the form of a gigantic version of it.

[[folder: Literature ]]

* In ''More Minds'' by Carol Matas, the heroes realize that the underpinnings of their fantasy realm are coming undone when they encounter a vaguely familiar, strangely cute, towering giant--and then suddenly realize that he's an ''elf'' who has spontaneously become big instead of little.
* The Brobdingnagian from the ''Literature/{{Hoka}}'' story "The Napoleon Crime" is a seven-foot-tall HeavyWorlder. He also happens to be round, fuzzy, and sky blue, with a face reminiscent of a seal pup and a [[GentleGiant demeanor]] that's [[{{Adorkable}} equal parts weeaboo and Eagle Scout]].
* ''{{Literature/Valhalla}}'' features numerous gigantic mutant walruses of an adorable nature. New teams are sent to escort them out when they wander into the titular ravine.

[[folder: Tabletop Games ]]

* In ''TabletopGame/SentinelsOfTheMultiverse'', the appropriately named Sky-Scraper can grow to tremendous size - presumably just under sixty feet, given that she's an Ant-Man {{Expy}}. However, she's also a Starfire {{Expy}}, meaning that she's frequently depicted smiling, is thoroughly loyal to her friends, and uses metaphors that tend to err on the side of the adorable.

[[folder: Video Games ]]

* The ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' series often invokes this with giant versions of small characters.
** [[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cutesy01_6278.jpg Yoshi]] in ''Brawl'' was a memorable case of this.
** Via a glitch, it is possible to get Jigglypuff to be absolutely huge in ''Brawl''.
* ''VideoGame/DoshinTheGiant'', though his game never made it to North America, did have a trophy in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosMelee''.
* Several Franchise/{{Pokemon}} can fall under this:
** [[GentleGiant Snorlax]] in particular looks like a big cuddly bear-cat thing.
** Wailmer and Wailord are large baleen whales with BlackBeadEyes. Wailord is also the largest Pokémon discovered.
** Celesteela is a giant Pokémon that resembles a spaceship and a Japanese princess.
* Suika Ibuki of the ''VideoGame/{{Touhou}}'' series is normally pretty small and adorable, but has the ability to change her size at will. She's still adorable when she's huge, but you're probably not thinking such as you're trying to avoid getting squashed by her!
* Trico, your companion in ''Videogame/{{The Last Guardian}}'' is a rather large dog-cat hybrid seemingly relative to the size of an elephant that, in addtion to [[spoiler: being capable of flight (albeit with huge wings due to the {{SquareCubeLaw}} and exhibiting other qualities reminiscient of birds]], can be very rambunctious, at other times gentle and early on the game you can even catch Trico taking a bath!
* [[spoiler: Asgore (who looks like a giant goat)]] in ''VideoGame/{{Undertale}}'' might look menacing at first with his armor and is probably the biggest monster out of the whole populace, but his puppy dog eyes (especially when he's sad) and his smile makes him look like a "big fuzzy pushover" as some people in the game call him. What also makes him more apparent in the trope is his love for gardening, making tea, and attempting to bake pies, which are qualities not usually seen with someone who is large and imposing. In the GoldenEnding, he trades his armor for a pink floral shirt and blue jeans as he trims some hedges.
* Half-dragon optional boss Crossbreed Priscilla from ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'' is about twenty feet tall with MysticalWhiteHair, [[LittleBitBeastly small horns and a furry tail]].
* Cala Maria in ''VideoGame/{{Cuphead}}'' is a giant and sexy mermaid/gorgon that vaguely resembles Betty Boop.

[[folder: Web Comics ]]

* [[http://bobadventures.comicgenesis.com/d/20091201.html Djali ("Jolly") the Giantess]] in ''Webcomic/TheInexplicableAdventuresOfBob''.
* Ruby from ''Webcomic/RubyNation'', [[BewareTheNiceOnes unless provoked]].

[[folder: Western Animation ]]

* ''WesternAnimation/CliffordTheBigRedDog'' more or less relies on this.
* Played for laughs on ''{{WesternAnimation/Futurama}}''. The episode ''Mother's Day'' reveals that Farnsworth and [[CorruptCorporateExecutive Mom]] used to be in a relationship...until she tried to make his latest toy, Cutey [=McWhiskers=], 18 feet tall with lasers, causing him to angrily proclaim, "Eighteen-foot-tall things aren't cute; that's why my Colossal Tammy Tinkle doll was such a flop! You don't understand me!" and break up. Later they reconcile, Farnsworth admits they're still cute at 18 feet tall [[spoiler:then Mom reveals that there's an even taller model and he gets angry again...[[SlapSlapKiss at first]]]].
* WesternAnimation/BabyHuey is giant compared to his peer group.
* ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'': Has Appa, elephant koi, and badger moles
* SequelSeries ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'' has Naga the polar bear dog.

[[folder: Real Life ]]

* A lot of the float balloons in the Macy's holiday parades.
* Many animals in real life:
** Bears. Why else would they be so commonly [[BearyFunny portrayed as]] [[BearyFriendly endearing]] and have the most popular form of plush toy based on them? Of course, this is easily {{subverted|Trope}} [[BearsAreBadNews from time to time]].
** [[BigFriendlyDog Some breeds of domestic dog]]. (St. Bernards, for example, are rather large while still remaining endearing.)
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDW2ZYbZTHY This]] rabbit, which comes from a species known as the Grey German Giant.
** [[TurtlePower Giant Tortoises.]] [[http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DdckqUnOGwY Just look at this tortoise having his neck scratched!]] Heck, even sea turtles are some of the gentlest animals you can come across in real life.
** Whales. [[http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/03/090304-newborn-baby-blue-whale-missions.html Baby blue whales!]]
** Dolphins. Nearly all of them have this huge dopey smile plastered on their face. It's this, along with their quick learning that makes them the star of Aquarium shows.
** Horses. They're like giant puppies that usually weigh around 1,200 pounds.
** Cats are usually considered pretty cute to begin with, but many of the largest breeds (like Maine Coons and Ragdolls) tend to also be among the very sweetest.
** Capybaras, the [[RodentOfUnusualSize largest living rodents.]] They're basically giant semi-aquatic guinea pigs, even making similar chirping noises when pleased.
