->''"It will be called ''Literature/HarryPotter and''... something. Catchy, don't you think? And I think I'll follow the same model for [[Literature/HarryPotterAndTheDeathlyHallows seven]]."''
-->-- '''Creator/JKRowling''' (on the title of the [[Literature/HarryPotterAndTheHalfBloodPrince sixth book]] before it was announced)

This is a standard way to name individual works in a loosely-linked series; it is currently most common in children's books. Frequently the noun phrase in question will be of TheXOfY form.

A common variant is to use the possessive instead of "and the", giving Character Name's Noun Phrase or Character Name and his Noun Phrase.

It's common to [[{{PlayingWith}} play with]] this trope in {{parod|y}}ical works, whether the work itself is the parody (''[[UsefulNotes/ComicRelief Harry Potter and the Secret Chamber Pot of Azerbaijan]]'') or the parody is an in-universe {{Expy}} (''[[{{WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons}} Angelica Button and The Dragon King's Trundle Bed]]''). It's also helpful when writing {{crossover}}s, especially in FanFiction. Just take the "Character Name" part and add the "And The Noun Phrase" part from another series to create a {{Portmantitle}}: ''Franchise/IndianaJones and the [[Literature/CharlieAndTheChocolateFactory Chocolate Factory]]''. Another variation is to add the title of a movie that ''doesn't'' follow this pattern to a Character Name from a series that ''does'': ''Indiana Jones and the Film/MinorityReport''. (Confusingly, there ''is'' a novel called ''[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Jones_and_the_Philosopher%27s_Stone Indiana Jones and the Philosopher's Stone]]'', written before the [[Literature/HarryPotterAndThePhilosophersStone Harry Potter book]] came out.)

While not to be confused with TheFantasticTropeOfWonderousTitles, there can be overlap. See also NameAndName, in which the noun phrase refers to one of the characters.

* Most of the episodes of the ''Manga/CardcaptorSakura'' anime have Japanese titles that begin with "Sakura and..."
* Many of the ''Manga/{{Doraemon}}'' movies have titles beginning with "Nobita and..." The possessive variation is also common (with Nobita), Nobita being the boy who the titular Doraemon has been sent from the future to aid.
* When the third ''Manga/HimitsuNoAkkoChan'' anime was dubbed in Italian, it was given the title "Stilly e lo Specchio Magico" ("Stilly[[note]]Stilly is Akko-chan's Italian name.[[/note]] and the Magic Mirror").[[note]]The first anime had been dubbed as simply "Lo Specchio Magico", while the second was dubbed as "Un Mondo di Magia" ("A World of Magic").[[/note]]
* ''Anime/JackAndTheWitch'', an anime movie made by Toei in the 1960s.
* ''[[Manga/TheLuciferAndBiscuitHammer Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer]]'', the English title of the manga series ''Hoshi no Samidare''.
* ''Anime/MaryAndTheWitchsFlower'', a 2017 anime movie by Creator/StudioPonoc.
* Every chapter and episode title in '' Manga/MashleMagicAndMuscles'' follows this theme, such as "Mash Burnedead and the Magic Scale" or "Mash Burnedead and the Unpopular Classmate." As it's set at a WizardingSchool, this theming was most certainly derived from ''Harry Potter'', albeit most of them are PlayedForLaughs by sounding a lot more mundane.
* This is the case for several of the ''[[Anime/PokemonTheSeries Pokémon]]'' movies and a two-part special (''VideoGame/PokemonRanger and the Kidnapped Riolu!''). The character named in the title is usually a [[SecondaryCharacterTitle secondary character]] exclusive to the film (the main characters are always Ash and his friends), often a rare or legendary Pokemon that would be out of place in a regular episode. ** ''Anime/PokemonGenesectAndTheLegendAwakened''

* ''Anime/UnicoInTheIslandOfMagic''
* The German dubbed version of the ''Literature/VickyTheViking'' anime is called ''Wickie und die Starken Männer'' (lit. "Vicky and the Strong Men").

* ''Series/DoctorWho'': During the classic series, scripts were often titled internally with a "Dr. Who and the..." format to prevent them getting mixed up with the scripts for other shows — so you'd have scripts called things like "Dr. Who and the Slave Traders" (part of [[Recap/DoctorWhoS2E4TheRomans "The Romans"]]) or "Dr. Who and the Temple of Evil" (part of [[Recap/DoctorWhoS1E6TheAztecs "The Aztecs"]]), and, as [[IAmNotShazam the character's name is not "Dr. Who"]], broadcast as "The Slave Traders" and "The Temple of Evil". This practice did leak into the show twice by accident — the first time was when the series abandoned the practice of titling each episode in favour of titling each serial, causing some internal confusion, so the [[OnTheNext Next Episode title]] at the end of [[Recap/DoctorWhoS3E8TheGunfighters "The Gunfighters"]] was shown as "Dr. Who and [[Recap/DoctorWhoS3E9TheSavages the Savages]]", though it was fixed in the serial itself. The second time was just a slip-up, and led to a Jon Pertwee story being called [[Recap/DoctorWhoS7E2DoctorWhoAndTheSilurians "Doctor Who and the Silurians"]] for the whole way through. The "Dr. Who and the..." titles have been used occasionally in the ExpandedUniverse as an IntentionallyAwkwardTitle designed to evoke feelings of FanDumb (such as the audio drama "Dr. Who and the Pirates") as well as the occasional CanonDiscontinuity (as in ''Film/DrWhoAndTheDaleks'', which starred a human time traveller named Dr. Who).
