!!This Story Contains Examples of:
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Doctor Emmett Sartarik. Despite reading stories to toddlers about [[ItMakesSenseInContext angels who makes people hit themselves]], he later shows surprising reflexes in stopping a boy from stealing a book...[[ScaryLibrarian with his fist.]]
* DeathByOriginStory: Implied, in Claudia's case. She only seems to have died because of Savian's kidnapping, and since the kidnapping ''is,'' in this case, an OriginsEpisode...well, you get the idea.
* GovernmentAgencyOfFiction: The Silean Seekers pay Wylar's wages, gave him training, and provide him with the authority to take control of the investigation into Claudia's death.
* TheHero: Both Wylar and Kara.
* JackBauerInterrogationTechnique: Used by Wylar.
** Attempted, more like. He later admitted to Savian that [[TortureAlwaysWorks not only does torture not always work]], but that he never did it again.
* MamaBear: Kara is a cross between this and BigSisterInstinct. She's Savian's nanny, not his mom, but judging by the way she acted when she first met Wylar, in the third installment, she might be a motherly figure towards "Savi," but she's also a badass.
* SecondHandStorytelling: Fields of Foreboding has, ''so far,'' three types of narration: there's the main character Wylar, talking to Savian, in "934 AS," with the story being told in third person, there Narration mode, in which Wylar monologues, and there's Wylar living through the events of the story, almost 40 years previous, in "895 AS."
* UnreliableNarrator: Wylar seems to be pretty good, ''usually'', but on one occasion he claims that having Kara accompany him was his idea, to which Savian responds, "Cedar made you take her, didn't he?" Wylar then admits he lied.
** "...Maybe."
