Examples of LastNameBasis in in WesternAnimation.

----
* Jimmy and Cindy from ''WesternAnimation/TheAdventuresOfJimmyNeutronBoyGenius'' usually call each other by their last names as a sign of their rivalry. Come the episode "Stranded" Cindy calls Jimmy by his first name as the two get closer, surprising Jimmy and later Carl, Sheen, and Libby. To the point where Jimmy mentions that he wasn't even aware that Cindy knew his first name.
* In ''WesternAnimation/AdventureTime'', every single character (except for [[OldFlame Marceline]]) calls Princess Bonnibel Bubblegum by her last name, Bubblegum.
* (Al) Tuttle from ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDad'' is always addressed by his last name.
* In ''WesternAnimation/{{Amphibia}}'', Sasha occasionally refers to Anne by her last name, Boonchuy.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Archer}}'':
** Despite the fact that the head of ISIS is Malory Archer, nearly everyone except Malory addresses her son Sterling as simply "Archer". Pam and Cheryl used to consistently call him "Mr. Archer", but as of the more current seasons Pam has dropped it completely, whereas Cheryl still does it. Malory, on the other hand, almost always goes by "Ms. Archer" except for when Lana and Cyril sometimes call her "Malory".
** At first Archer refers to Ray by his last name "Gillette" but later as "Ray".
** Krieger's first name, Algernop, is rarely mentioned at all (in one instance, by one of the telepathic aliens in the episode "Nellis"), and even his 401K lists him as "Doctor Krieger".
** The Archers' butler Woodhouse also qualifies. Even when his old war buddies visit him, one of them addresses him as "Large Corporal Woodhouse".
* Miranda from ''WesternAnimation/AsToldByGinger'' is largely dismissive of Ginger and refers to her as "Foutley".
* ''WesternAnimation/BeavisAndButtheadDoTheUniverse'' reveals that Beavis has been this the whole time, since for the first time we see his mother, Shirley Beavis.
* ''Franchise/Ben10:''
** From ''WesternAnimation/Ben10'', Dr. (Aloysius James) Animo is only addressed by his last name Animo and even himself only uses his first name occasionally.
** In ''WesternAnimation/Ben10Omniverse'', Rook Blonko is addressed this way, but that's because his name is introduced with the surname first. Seeing as he is sent to Bellwood in America, and his species doesn't seem to leave their planet often, it could have been [[NameOrderConfusion a mistake on Ben and everyone's part]], thinking they were calling him by his first name.
* ''WesternAnimation/CampLazlo'': Mr. Slinkman's first name is never revealed. Everyone just calls him "Mr. Slinkman" or "Slinkman".
* ''WesternAnimation/CaptainPlanetAndThePlaneteers'':
** According to showrunner Barbara Pyle Wheeler's first name is actually James. Given that a group of people from his neighborhood also refer to his father by "Wheeler", it's seemingly his surname, but for whatever reason, he prefers to go by that and is never referred to as anything else (barring the various insulting names the eco-villains have for the Planeteers).
** The Planeteers only know Dr. Blight as Dr. Blight. When her good twin sister Bambi calls her "Babs", they have no idea who she means until she uses the surname and title.
* In ''WesternAnimation/Castlevania2017'' Alucard only calls Trevor by "Belmont", they're VitriolicBestBuds so it makes sense.
* Ulrich, Jeremie, and Odd of ''WesternAnimation/CodeLyoko'' are this way in "[[{{Prequel}} X.A.N.A. Awakens]]". It's implied Ulrich and Jeremie are this way due to their different social classes at Kadic though no explanation is given for Odd falling victim to it.
* ''WesternAnimation/DangerMouse'' has the title character's partner/sidekick, (Ernest) Penfold.
** Baron Silas Greenback is commonly referred to as simply "Baron Greenback", or just "Greenback", as is seemingly tradition for villains who have more than just [[OnlyOneName one name]].

* In ''WesternAnimation/{{Doug}}'', Roger mostly addresses to Doug by his last name, "Funnie."

* ''WesternAnimation/{{Duckman}}'': (Eric Tiberius) Duckman, (Willibald Feivel) Cornfed, and (George Herbert Walker) King Chicken, although eventually their full names are revealed. Duckman is ashamed of his, and makes fun of Cornfed's name the first time it comes up.
* ''WesternAnimation/Ducktales2017''
** Flintheart Glomgold is rarely referred to by his first name. Even the man himself refers to himself as Glomgold and not Flintheart.
** CFO [[spoiler: and St Canard Mayor]] (Zan) Owlson is rarely called by her first name.

** He constantly invokes this trope on (Timmy) Turner (as do Francis, the school bully, Jorgen, Tad and Chad, and the Head Pixie).
** There's also (Sheldon) Dinkleberg.
* (Glenn) Quagmire in ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy''.
** Lois calls him Glenn and a number of other people as well, including his sister. It's mostly his drinking buddies who call him Quagmire.
* Most of the Safety Patrol on ''WesternAnimation/{{Fillmore}}'' refer to each other by last names, despite being middle schoolers. (Though if your first name was Cornelius, wouldn't you want to go by Fillmore?) Ingrid is usually called by her first name, but not always.
* ''WesternAnimation/FiremanSam'': Because of their strained relationship, it's far more common for Station Officer Steele to refer to Elvis by "Cridlington" instead of his first name. Sometimes, he will also drop a "Firefighter Morris" (Penny) or "Firefighter Phillips" (Ellie). However, as the title of the series suggests, he never does with with Sam; Chief Fire Officer Boyce, on the other hand, once referred to him by "Firefighter Jones".
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}''
** The page quote from an episode that introduces Fry and Leela's full names and lampshades this. Leela is introduced as Turanga Leela on the news, and a surprised Fry says, "''Turanga!?''". Amy points out it's her first name and calls him Philip while she's at it, and Bender reacts in the exact same fashion with "''Philip!?''". Although [[SubvertedTrope it eventually turns out]] that "Turanga" [[NameOrderConfusion is actually her surname]] (her parents being Turanga Morris and Turanga Munda), but she/the orphanage presumably never knew that.
** (John) Zoidberg is almost never referred to by his first name, but is known simply by his surname Zoidberg. Even ''he'' calls himself "Zoidberg". Mom, and occasionally Farnsworth, are the only exceptions to call him John.
** (Philip J.) Fry is referred to almost exclusively by his last name Fry. Only his parents and brother call him Philip or Phil. Members of the Planet Express have occasionally called him Philip and he was called Phil during his time as a cop but that's it.
* On ''WesternAnimation/GoldieAndBear'', Bear's real first name is actually Jack. [[SpeciesSurname Bear is his last name.]] When he was little, he came to be known as "Baby Bear" and eventually the name stuck as just "Bear." [[OneSteveLimit And there are at least three other Jacks]] in the show.
* ''WesternAnimation/GravityFalls'': Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durland both go by and call each other by their last names exclusively. Same goes for Agent Powers and Agent Trigger, as well as Old Man [=McGucket=].
* ''WesternAnimation/JimmyTwoShoes'': The eponymous character is usually referred to as "Two-Shoes" by Lucius.
* ''WesternAnimation/KimPossible'':
** [[DarkActionGirl Shego]], who inverts this. [[{{Fanon}} It is suggested that her last name is "Go"]], but she has "She" in front because she [[FaceHeelTurn used to be good]] and part of a team with her brothers where she was the [[TheSmurfettePrinciple the only girl]]. It's also possible their names relate to their first names, but they're never given. {{Lampshaded}} by Ron in ''Go Team Go''.
** Her employer Dr. Drakken (real name Drew Theodore P. Lipsky) is usually addressed or referred to simply as Drakken. The same applies for one of the other villains, (Duff) Killigan, and for Kim's teacher (Steve) Barkin.
** Also, Mr. Barkin addresses students by their last names; it seems to be a mix of formality and gruffness.
* ''WesternAnimation/KingOfTheHill'': Arlen's resident [[MotorMouth fast-talker]] is known simply by his surname Boomhauer. It took 13 seasons for (Jeff) Boomhauer's first name to be revealed.
** Even Boomhauer's family (who also have the surname Boomhauer) call him "Boomhauer" and not Jeff.

* In ''WesternAnimation/TheMrMenShow'', various characters (usually Mr. Grumpy) sometimes refer to a Mr. Man or Little Miss without saying "Mr." or "Miss."
* Coco Pommel from ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' is one of the very few ponies described this way. She's usually called "Miss Pommel" aside from pre-season 6 episodes. This is due to a legal issue involving using Coco Chanel's name.
* Garmadon from ''WesternAnimation/{{Ninjago}}'' is only ever referred to by a title, then his last name. Lord Garmadon when he was evil and trying to take over the world, and later Sensei Garmadon. He has a son named Lloyd Garmadon and a brother, who is only ever called Wu.
* In ''WesternAnimation/OverTheGardenWall,'' everybody addresses Jason Funderberker with either this or FullNameBasis, but never FirstNameBasis.

* ''WesternAnimation/RandyCunninghamNinthGradeNinja'':
** Howard Weinerman rarely calls the titular character by his first name.
** On the villains side is (William) Viceroy.
* The names of the Color Kids from ''WesternAnimation/RainbowBrite'' are treated as their full names. Shy Violet is usually referred to as "Violet".[[note]]On the other hand, since "Violet" is also a common girls' name, "Shy" could just as easily be an adjective instead, making her a possible subversion of this trope.[[/note]]
* Mr. Peterson from ''WesternAnimation/ReadyJetGo'' refers to ''everyone'' by their last names. And yes, this includes his own son, Mitchell Peterson.
* After Enzo Matrix from ''WesternAnimation/ReBoot'' undergoes a PlotRelevantAgeUp, [[OutgrowingTheChildishName he decides to just go by his last name]].
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Recess}}'':
** Ashley Spinelli is just Spinelli to everyone besides her parents and siblings. She kept her first name a secret from the other kids at school to differentiate herself from "The Ashleys," a posse of {{Alpha Bitch}}es that she hates.
** T.J.'s main rival Lawson, as well as some minor characters (Skeens, Gelman, Mundy, etc.) are mostly known by their last name. This is lampshaded when Gretchen appears at Lawson's house and doesn't know his given name (Erwin).
** Speaking of Lawson, he usually calls people by their last name himself.
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheRenAndStimpyShow'', Commander Hoek, although he doesn't mind simply being addressed as "Ren".
* ''WesternAnimation/RoughnecksStarshipTroopersChronicles'': Brutto is known by his last name only for the most part because he considers Francis to be an EmbarrassingFirstName.

* ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'':
** Smithers is also rarely referred to by his first name, Waylon.
** Homer calls Ned Flanders by his last name. {{Justified|Trope}} in a {{Flashback}} when Ned introduces himself to Homer the day the latter moves into the neighbourhood, and having immediately rubbed him the wrong way by being himself, says
--->'''Flanders:''' Hi-diddly-hey, new neighbour-ino. My name's Flanders, but my friends call me Ned!\\
'''Homer:''' [[StealthInsult Hello, Flanders.]]
** Flanders also addresses Homer as "Simpson" early on. [[{{Flanderization}} As he transforms from a perfect neighbor into an ultra-pious nice guy]], he later starts calling Homer by first name (and any number of vari-diddly-ations thereof).
* Fondue in ''[[WesternAnimation/KaBlam Sniz & Fondue]]'' is this. His first name is Squeaky.
* Almost none of the kids (besides Butters and Jimmy) in ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark'' call (Eric) Cartman by his first name. Only the adults call him that. Kyle calls him "Eric" [[EarlyInstallmentWeirdness in the pilot episode]]. ("Come on, Eric, we're gonna go play at the bus stop!"). As a rule, fewer characters do as time goes on; by now, it's mostly just the adults.
* ''WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarePants'':
** (Sheldon) Plankton is referred as to Plankton by everyone by his SpeciesSurname, aside from his cousins. Even his own grandmother calls him Plankton. {{Justified|Trope}}, since "Plankton's Army" shows that it's an EmbarrassingFirstName; Karen breaks out laughing when she learns that it's his name, and takes every chance to humiliate him with the name behind his back (until Plankton catches on and unplugs her).
** Ditto for his {{Archenemy}}, Mr. Krabs, who is seldom referred to by his first name (Eugene). Like Plankton, he seems rather embarrassed by it.
** In a strange subversion, Mr. Krabs has called Squidward "Mr. Squidward" since the pilot, which suggested [=SpongeBob=] was referring to him by his last name. It quickly turned out Squidward's full name is "Squidward Tentacles", leaving Mr. Krabs' use of honorific rather strange.
* ''WesternAnimation/StarTrekLowerDecks'' reverses the trend toward FirstNameBasis seen in (chronologically) recent shows such as ''Series/StarTrekVoyager'' by having the characters refer to each other by last name at almost all times, even if they're close friends. This is lampshaded in "[[Recap/StarTrekLowerDecksS2E03WellAlwaysHaveTomParis We'll Always Have Tom Paris]]" when (Beckett) Mariner is shocked to learnt that (D'Vana) Tendi has a first name at all, having previously assumed that she had OnlyOneName.

** Obi-Wan Kenobi's [[ArchEnemy archenemies]], especially General Grievous and [[spoiler:Darth Maul]], tend to address him only by his last name, and usually in [[ChewingTheScenery spectacularly]] [[LargeHam hammy]] [[SayMyName fashion]].

** Asajj Ventress is always addressed by her last name by allies and enemies alike.
* ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsRebels'':

** [[Recap/StarWarsRebelsS3E18TwinSuns "Twin Suns"]]: [[spoiler:Maul keeps up the habit mentioned above when he confronts Obi-Wan on Tatooine seventeen years later. Even Ezra only calls him "Master Kenobi". Well, Obi-Wan ''did'' say [[Film/ANewHope it had been a long time since he'd heard that name ...]]]]
%%* The same is true of Hal Needham from ''WesternAnimation/StuntDawgs''.

* ''WesternAnimation/{{Supernoobs}}'': (Jennifer) Shope.
* ''WesternAnimation/TimeSquad'': Otto and Larry always refer to Buck Tuddrussel by his last name, with his ex-wife Sheila Sternwell being the only main character to call him by his first name.

* Initially played straight in the ABC Saturday Superstar movie ''[[WesternAnimation/YogiBear Yogi]]'s Ark Lark'' with Smitty, the Jellystone Park maintenance man, until he reveals that his first name is Noah[[note]]Get it?...[[/note]], after which, he is referred to by his first name Noah for rest of the special.
