''Feel like [[SuperHeroOrigin giving someone superhuman abilities]]? It's easy! Just:''

# Make them [[FreakLabAccident wander into a lab and spill some chemicals on themselves]].
# Subject them to [[ILoveNuclearPower otherwise deadly radiation]].
# Have them [[LightningCanDoAnything struck by lightning]].
# Have them [[SpiderMan bitten by a spider]].
# Give them [[{{Cyborg}} cybernetic augmentations]]
# Test that new brand of SuperSerum on them.
# ...but make sure to read the [[PsychoSerum fine print, first.]]
# Give them something to [[DisabilitySuperpower compensate for a disability]].
# ...for example, [[BlindSeer blindness]].
# Reveal that they have been [[HumanAliens an alien all along]].
# Or that [[HalfHumanHybrid one of their parents is]].
# Hand them a [[ClothesMakeTheSuperman cool super-suit]].
** Or just give them enough [[PowerRangers attitude]].
** Bonus points if the suit can be easily accessed by a [[TransformationTrinket belt buckle, watch or cell phone]]
# Establish that they have a [[MetaOrigin genetic affinity]] for superpowers.
# Or can use the [[NinetyPercentOfYourBrain dormant abilities we all have]].
# . . . preferably because they're at a [[EvolutionaryLevels "higher level of evolution"]]. ( I feel deja vu. something about an [[ComicBook/{{X-Men}} X. Or was it men?]])
# Have them [[LegacyCharacter take the mantle of another superhero]].
# Combining the previous two (three, four), why not [[SuperpowerfulGenetics inherit them]]?
# ...especially if the parent had them [[LamarckWasRight acquired, not genetically inherited]], in the first place.
# Subject them to [[CharlesAtlasSuperpower enough hard training]] to make them superhuman, or at least ''seem'' superhuman.
# Establish them as TheChosenOne.
# ...preferably by an [[PowersThatBe ancient and wise being]] just waiting for some [[KidHero clueless kid]] to [[ItsUpToYou entrust the fate of the world to]].
# Let [[TouchedByVorlons Vorlons touch them]].
# Flash forward to their [[PubertySuperpower puberty]].
# If they already have [[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway weaker powers]], put them in a [[PowerCreepPowerSeep crossover]].
# ...or just [[SoLastSeason end the season and start a new one]].
# RetCon them into TheRealRemingtonSteele.
# Cast them in a kid-friendly AnimatedAdaptation. Extra points if it has the words [[RecycledInSPACE "IN SPACE!"]] somewhere in the title.
# Put them in a [[DieOrFly life-threatening situation]].
# Give them a [[DangerousSixteenthBirthday sixteenth birthday]].
# Give them a [[HumongousMecha giant fighting robot]]...
# ...preferably one that can [[TransformingMecha transform]].
# Forget about ''giving'' them a robot, make ''them'' the [[{{SuperPoweredRobotMeterMaids}} robot]].
# ...Or otherwise [[ArtificialHuman made in a lab]].
# Give them a ship. Or, better, CoolStarship!
# Let the government [[SuperSoldier take care of it]].
# Two words: GreenRocks.
# Teach them an empowering ritual.
# Teach them [[FunctionalMagic magic]].
# ...preferably by having them find a [[GreatBigBookOfEverything guide to magic]].
# Or a [[GreenLanternRing magic ring.]]
# ([[ArtifactOfDoom Be selective about]] ''[[ArtifactOfDoom which]]'' [[ArtifactOfDoom ring, though.]])
# Reveal them to be a {{reincarnation}} of a legendary hero.
# Push them to their breaking point and [[SuperpoweredEvilSide see what happens]].
# And don't worry if they ''do'' break; [[WeCanRebuildHim you can always fix them]].
# Expose them to some process that [[GeneticEngineeringIsTheNewNuke alters their very genetic makeup from the ground up]].
# Inject them with {{Nanomachines}}.
# Expose them to [[MutagenicGoo weird sciencey/magical goo]].
# Have them hang around someone else with powers. Eventually [[ContagiousPowers Power Osmosis]] will get them to soak up some of that power. Don't expect it to stick though.
# Have them [[PowerUp fight a boss]] [[MegaManning and take their power]]
# Have someone else ''literally'' [[SuperEmpowering give them superpowers.]]
** Bonus points if the empowerer is named [[Blog/ThingsMrWelchIsNoLongerAllowedToDoInAnRPG "Captain Franchise"]].
** Or a [[HeroicHost critter]].
** Or a [[SuperhumanTransfusion Blood Donor]].
# [[SuperEmpowering It's a gift from]] (insert benevolent spirit here).
# [[CursedWithAwesome It's a curse from]] (insert malevolent spirit here).
# [[DeathActivatedSuperpower Kill them]].
# Leave them [[IronMan in a cave]] [[MemeticMutation with a box of scraps]].
# [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica "Quick, make a contract with me!"]]
# Involve [[AnimalThemedSuperbeing animals]] in some way.
# If he is a BadassNormal without powers, that doesn't stop him from [[EmpoweredBadassNormal getting some]].
** Although he might still [[FightsLikeANormal fight like a normal]].

But really, if you just [[NewPowersAsThePlotDemands feel like it]], why not just [[AssPull pull it out of your ass]]?

Be warned, not everyone [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity reacts well]] to getting super powers.

If you want to boost these powers through the roof, consider using an AmplifierArtifact.

If you want to put a limit on them, give them a finite PowerSource.

When it would take too long to think of a different one for every character, why not try a MassSuperEmpoweringEvent or RandomlyGifted?
