* In the first book, when Conn notes to Nevery that he thinks [[spoiler: Keeston is being beaten by his master]], Nevery notes that he probably couldn't get away with anything like that. Conn wouldn't let him--he'd leave. When Conn agrees with him, Nevery gets emphatic:
--->"And that, Conn, is why you are ''not'' a gutter boy or a sneak thief."
** It's doubly potent not only because it's an affirmation of Conn's noble character, but it marks more or less the first time Nevery says something openly nice about Conn.
* Keeston himself [[spoiler: is saved from his abusive master to become an assistant to Nevery]].
* Conn's [[spoiler:[[HeroicSacrifice Heroic Sacrifice]]]] in book three.
--->[[spoiler: [[WhamLine I gave the magics me.]]]]
* Once [[spoiler:Embrewing]] realizes Conn isn't going to make a bid for the Underlord's position, he relaxes and starts to allow himself to become friends with [[spoiler: his cousin, building a new relationship free of Crowe's influence.]]
** He unfailingly addresses Conn as [[spoiler: 'Cousin']] afterwards, probably just because he ''can.''
** In the fourth book, the minute Conn suspects [[spoiler:Crowe may be back in town,]] he goes to Embre because he deserves to know just as much, or perhaps even more so, than Conn.
