* For all his own sins, Nicholas is particularly angry at Amin's son Mackenzie's near-exile from his father's court due to Mackenzie's epilepsy, asserting the condition is perfectly manageable.
* At the very end of the film, Nicholas has been beaten to a pulp and hung from the ceiling by hooks through his skin. He escapes onto a plane meant for refugees of a hijacking. As Nicholas walks to the plane, he has a refugee on either side holding him up. On the plane itself, the woman sitting behind him has her hand on his shoulder. After the shocking atrocities we've seen man do to his fellow man, largely through Amin to his "friends" and "loved" ones, seeing people help and comfort a bloody and broken stranger is almost worthy of tears.
