* The reporter Beckworth taking some time to help with the humanitarian work the soldiers do, making friends with a little girl and giving her his necklace. Sadly becomes a TearJerker later.
* All the scenes with Sergeant Petersen and Hamchunk.
** Such as Peterson comforting the boy when his pet dog is killed. Gently taking the boy to safety with the other refugees, but only after giving Hamchunk a moment to respectfully bury his faithful companion.
* Near the end of the film. Kirby finding Hamchunk crying while running from helicopter to helicopter, searching for Petersen. Kirby, then walks over to the boy and tells him of Peterson's death. Holding hands, the two walk along the beach into the sunset. Also counts as a TearJerker.
--> '''Hamchunk''': What will happen to me now?
--> '''Colonel Kirby''': (''places Petersen's green beret on him'') You let me worry about that, Green Beret. You're what this thing's all about.
