* The Browns are impressed when Encyclopedia figures out that a shopkeeper lied about getting robbed. Mrs. Brown tells her son he should become a detective someday. This encourages Encyclopedia to open an AmateurSleuth business out of their garage.
* Sally's first chapter and the television adaptation have this. Encyclopedia solves her riddle flawlessly, that the Great Merko was a woman, so she was Fred Gibson's grandmother and not grandfather, thus the money goes to him. The television adaptation shows her giving him a SmileOfApproval for figuring it out. Come the next chapter in the book, they've become friends and Encyclopedia makes her his partner and bodyguard.
* "The Case of the Oven Mitt". When he figures out that Nancy stole the mixers from the Feinfinger shop, he confronts her quietly so that the party isn't ruined. Encyclopedia tells her he won't notify his dad Chief Brown or the police as long as she returns the mixers. Bella also mentions his dad wasn't mad at her because he understood it was an accident, but she's upset at herself.
* In the epilogue to "The Case of the Missing Watchgoose", Encyclopedia and Sally put a hold on detective duties to comfort Candida about her goose being killed. Encyclopedia feels guilty about having eaten a bit of the goose unknowingly, and feels it's his responsibility. Eventually, Candida says she's inviting them to make a Christopher Columbus Day feast at her house, to honor her goose and the holiday and to thank the detectives for their help in finding the truth.
* "The Case of the Chinese Restaurant." Sally and Encyclopedia go to help a classmate named Oliver, who's being accused of stealing money from a school club. Encyclopedia is not only mad; he's ''livid'' when hearing the accusers Mitch and Kate have such a petty reason to frame him, that they want to take his position as treasurer. With TranquilFury, he busts them for their lie that Oliver opened the envelope with a steak knife because he hadn't ordered, and Chinese restaurants only give certain cutlery with specific meals. It's implied that Vice-Principal Gerard punishes the duo offscreen for very petty theft and lying. Then Encyclopedia tells Oliver not to give up his love of Chinese food, and invites him to try his mom's cooking since she's good at making the dishes Oliver loves.
