* OK, so at the end, the secret base with the world-destroying nuclear missiles is locked, and the only key is dropped into a raging river that not even The Man With The Scarlet Eye can fish it out of. Fair enough. But when he left the base just a few minutes ago, Scarlet Eye did so by turning into energy and leaving through a vent. What's stopping him from doing the same thing in reverse and setting them off again?
** That's a case of FridgeHorror I never would have thought of. Maybe when he's pure energy he can't actually pick any physical objects up.
*** Yeah, but he can turn from energy to "human" again, back and forth. Nothing should stop him from energizing, going back through the vent, turning "human," and setting off the missiles.
*** It was implied earlier in the novel that, although he was capable of individual acts of violence, The Man With The Scarlet Eye mainly serves as a being of evil influence--kind of like a Randall Flagg turned up to eleven. He's good at convincing and influencing others to act, rather than taking the action himself: ''"Lately he’d been on tour, riding the bus from city to city, seeing America. There were so many terrorist groups and armed firebrands in Europe that his influence was hardly needed, though he’d enjoyed helping plant that nice potent bomb in Beirut. He’d stayed a while in Washington, but none of the theaters were showing The Face of Death, Part Four there. Still, Washington held so many possibilities, and when you mixed and mingled with Pentagon boys and cabinet members at some of those parties you never knew what you might stir up."''
