''Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion'' might dabble in a lot of PsychologicalHorror like the original, but that doesn't mean they aren't some laughs by the way.

* Mari's comment about the 12th angel, near the end of ''3.33'': "Besides, after defeating the last angel we don't know what kind of evil could appear. Are you not worried?". It's hilarious on a meta level, given how ridiculously elaborated the apocalypses can get in this franchise.
** Some translations make her say "Besides, I'm curious to see what will happen once the final Angel is destroyed.", which makes the scene less funny and more ominous.
* The last line of the trailer for ''2.0'': "Oh, and lots of fanservice!"
** Echoed for ''3.0'' where it comes off as MoodDissonance.
* When Kaji gets [[{{HoYay}} a little]] [[{{NoYay}} TOO]] [[{{AlmostKiss}} close]] [[{{Squick}} to]] [[{{HaveIMentionedIAmHeterosexualToday}} Shinji]], [[{{BigNo}} the scream]] [[CellPhonesAreUseless is heard down the hall]] [[{{JustIgnoreIt}} by a few other people.]]
** There's also Shinji's startled reaction to Kaji holding a drink by his face.
** Kaji's idea of a date: tending watermelons. No wonder Misato warned that Kaji is nothing but bad news...
** Just the idea of Kaji continuing his RunningGag of putting the moves on every female member of NERV with ''[[DudeLooksLikeALady Shinji]]'', even if it's just as a joke.
* Shinji and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fracw_Ddbo8 Asuka discovering Pen-Pen in the shower]]. Complete with straws and toothpicks.
** Funnier when Asuka learns of Pen-Pen because when Shinji turns around, [[AccidentalPervert he sees Asuka naked and gets kicked in the face]].
** Both times, Misato pick up her cup that was placed exactly where it covers the children's private parts... only to reveal there's something else behind it. For Asuka it was just a ''straw''.
** Even funnier is the odd thought that Misato has never had a straw with her beer before...then you see that it's for Pen-Pen! The penguin drinks too!
* The shell casings of the chaingun that Unit-01 uses on the fifth angel raining down on and crushing a car was somehow very funny when looked on from a MoreDakka perspective.
* Mari's covert infiltration into Japan... [[ComicallyMissingThePoint via parachuting]].
* Kaji [[CovertPervert taking advantage]] of Misato's phone call [[https://66.media.tumblr.com/f705fe4c7a389344f44e54a031647f98/tumblr_n1fkk19Eyb1tpfyz5o1_500.gifv to check out]] [[EatingTheEyeCandy her figure]].
* The kids decide to head to the aquarium (conveniently shaped like the Tree of Life). Since Second Impact, a massive red tide has poisoned all of Earth's oceans, so the aquarium has ''very'' strict measures about sanitation. Everyone basically has to go through a hyper washing machine, getting tossed around and scrubbed raw.
** Especially Rei and her complete lack of reaction.
*** [[Series/DoctorWho "Watch out for the disinfectant!"]]
** [[OverusedRunningGag Organic Compound Electrolytic Dissociation Re-Re-Sterlization Pool Treatment Room]]. Yes, they went through it ''three times''.
* Rei says Good Morning. [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness The entire class flies into a panic]].
%%* BALLSBALLSBALLS.
* Unit 02 does a highly-complicated acrobatic maneuver, lands feet-first, ''and sends Misato's car flying arse over tit'' in the process. ''While Misato and Shinji are still inside''.
** And the car gets stopped by Unit 00's foot.
* You will not be able to take Sahaquiel seriously if you have seen the "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFUIUx8grSY Double Rainbow]]" version of it on Youtube prior to watching the real version.
* A bit off narm here, but the name Wille (wrongly pronounced Will-y) can be stupidly hysterical if it catches you off guard. It doesn't help that under the logo, there's a big white paint splotch to go with it.
** This being another case of GratuitousGerman, it should actually be pronounced more like Willeh (like the Japanese exclamation "eh?"), it just comes off as funny that Japanese organisations keep insisting on using words they can't pronounce correctly.
** The English dub cast pronounces it more like "Veal" half the time.
* Toji being chased by Pen-Pen when he takes Rei's (unwanted) meal.
* Kaji's GratuitousEnglish in the prologue of 2.0 was just rolling on the floor funny. Watch it [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN9GiMFWKPE here]].
** The other guys in the control room are like "What the hell did I just hear?" And their faces are priceless!
* Almost ''every'' fucking Shinji/Kaworu scene in 3.33, where the dialogue sounds ''suspiciously'' like a yaoi. Goes into SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments because their relationship is a lot more balanced this time around.
** [[http://moarpowah.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Kaworu.jpg Kaworu says hi.]]
* Mari's response to all the carnage happening at the climax of ''3.33'' in the English dub is a delightfully playful "Hoooooooooly crap." Understatement of the year, Miss Makinami.
* The arm controls of Mari's technologically advanced EVA in ''3.0+1.0'' being reduced to a fancy ''hand crank'' in the opening. And it works, despite it all.
* There are some [[BlackComedy dark humor]] going on in ''3.0+1.0'' when the film paints the grown-up Kensuke and Toji as someone ''more sane'' than the pilot trio.
** Toji who was a delinquent has turned into a village doctor and ''doting papa'' to his own child.
** Asuka walks around Kensuke's hideout practically naked when she vents her anger at catatonic Shinji. Kensuke comes in and ''without batting an eyelid'' just plops a towel over Asuka's head to cover herself.
* This is more of a roll-your-eyes than a laugh-out-loud moment, but pay attention to Kensuke's driving when Shinji is in his car. Despite living in the AfterTheEnd world following the Near Third Impact and driving one of the few if not the one running car left in their DomedHometown with no other people remotely close to where they are, Kensuke still uses his turn signals and makes a full stop before turning left at an intersection.
* Shinji, having done a great deal of soul-searching and finally recovering some of the person he was before the events of ''2.0'', announces to Asuka that he wants to return to Wunder with her. Asuka replies with, "Fine. Here are the rules." and then from seemingly out of nowhere draws a taser pistol and zaps Shinji, knocking him flat out and completely ruining what would have been a very dramatic moment. Also, Kensuke [[PassThePopcorn may have filmed the entire thing]].
* During Shinji's reunion with Sakura, one line from Asuka injects some humour into an otherwise somber moment:
-->'''Shinji:''' Sakura... Miss Sakura Suzuhara...\\
'''Sakura:''' ''[slaps him in the face]'' I said "don't pilot anymore Evas", but you ran away and did just that! [[WhatTheHellHero You jerk! You absolute jerk!]] [[BigStupidDoodooHead You're a jerk, Mr Ikari!]] ''[[[CryIntoChest breaks down crying into him]]]''\\
'''Asuka:''' [[MoodWhiplash What are you]], [[DeadpanSnarker his wife?]]
* Final battle between Shinji and Gendo culminating in two [=EVAs=] battling inside... [[{{Bizarrchitecture}} school classroom]]? [[ScifiWritersHaveNoSenseOfScale Over the dining table inside Misato's old place]]? [[IndecisiveMedium On a filming set]] with [[{{Toku}} Tokyo-3 buildings casually flung around]] [[PeopleInRubberSuits by the actors like cardboard boxes]]? BattleInTheCenterOfTheMind alright.
** After their conversation Gendo is suddenly startled and looks up demanding to know what it is. Shinji just gives a casual "Oh it's Ms. Misato". Cut to Misato grinning like a mad woman as she pilots the Wunder into the giant Rei with "Joy to the World" of all songs playing.
* Shinji's last conversation with Rei not only has a TitleDrop to ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'', but the logo of it even appears. Really seals the deal with the ending being meta.
* One of the final sequences in the film, with Mari meeting Shinji on the beach, features a deliberate animation deterioration process as a stylistic decision. As Creator/SpikeSpencer once said in [[HilariousOuttakes a blooper reel]], they ran out of ink, those bastards!
* The fact that in the middle of the movie, despite having long ago moved on from their television roots, there is ''still'' an EyeCatch.
