* A shout-out in the first chapter of the series to Harry Dresden, when Alex's narration mentions rumor of a mage in Chicago who is in the phonebook under "Wizard".
* In the first book Alex and Arachne are discussing how hard Alex is on clothes. A discussion which includes the line "Besides, that thing with the inferno elemental was not my fault!" They both refuse the explain when Luna asks what they're talking about.
* In Cursed, while under attack by a hidden sniper, Alex's inner monologue reacts quite comically when he realizes that he's in the sights of an RPG.
--> Alex: He was going to shoot me with a what?
* The reason mages used to like to live in towers is because a) they're easily defensible positions if the enemy does not have siege equipment and b)
---> My tower is bigger than your tower.
* In Bound, Morden explains to Alex why he needs a new aide:
--> Morden: Yes, it seems the stress of the position proved too much for him. He broke all his fingers, cut his own throat, then set himself on fire.
--> Alex: He set himself on fire.
--> Morden: Yes.
--> Alex: After cutting his own throat.
--> Morden: One has to admire his sheer dedication to avoid counselling.
* Also in Bound, there is something very darkly humorous about Alex comparing the way the Keepers treat him to StockShoujoBullyingTactics.
* Also in Bound when "Captain America" shows back up.
--> Alex: You know him?
--> Anne: You do too.
--> Alex: I do?
--> Anne: He tried to kill you.
--> Alex: You're going to need to be more specific than that.
--> Anne: Three times.
--> Alex: More specific.
--> Anne: Two years ago.
--> Alex: More specific.
--> Anne: In August...
--> Alex: More specific.
--> Anne: Oh come on!
* Additionally, that hilarious moment in bound when Alex, Anne, Cinder, and Rachel go to UsefulNotes/McDonalds and a short debate on the merits of [=McDonald's=] occurs where Anne is bemused by the choice when there are better places and both Alex and Cinder agree on the superiority of their thin fries over all other places in England.
* In Marked, during one of the meetings of the Light Council, Undaaris engages in one of his long-winded hedging sessions and Alex and Levistus exchange a look basically saying "I hate you and everything you stand for but I respect you a whole lot more than this moron".
* A darkly humorous moment in Fallen. One of Onyx' house slaves tries to snitch on Alex and he knocks her out before she can alert the Dark mages to his presence. After he comes out of the Fateweaver's Tomb and kills Onyx and his entire sorry excuse for a cabal, he comes across the slave again, who runs around screaming at the top of her lungs for someone to come kill Alex. Her yells then turn into shrieks when she notices all the corpses strewn about.
* During the climax of Fallen:
--> Sal Sarque: Did you just break into my home for a job interview?
--> Alex: More or less.
** Later in that same scene:
--> Alex: Sorry, Sarque. Well, actually, I'm not sorry at all. I'd say it was nothing personal, but it really is.
* Forged gives us the ultimate team-up: Starbreeze and Cinder.
* During the meeting between Alex, Richard and the Senior Council in Risen, Alex is forced to make his allegiances clear. Very clear.
--> Alex: Alma, I’m going to be frank. I don’t like you. You supported Levistus , and you voted to sentence me to death, not once but over and over again. If you were to drop dead of a heart attack, I wouldn’t lose a moment’s sleep. But Richard is a far worse enemy to me than you will ever be. If I were in a room with you, Richard and a gun with two bullets, I’d shoot Richard twice. Does that answer your question?
* Also in Risen, Alex asks his old master Helikaon to teach him how to create false futures to throw off another diviner. Alex tries his hand at it and asks how his work compares to what can do. Helikaon goes into great detail about how creations are so perfect you could pick out individual strands of hair on someone's arms. As for Alex' creation? He draws a stick figure and waggles it around while talking in an annoying high-pitched voice to make fun of Alex.
** During the epilogue, Yun Ji-yeong asks an incredibly exasperated Luna whether Landis is married or not.
** During the final fight with Richard, Alex and Richard trade verbal shivs as they are want to do and this time Alex isn't cowed by Richard's antics. What makes this funny is he proceeds to give Richard a run down on the status of his Apprentices to date, and finishes this off by telling him, "You're worse than a dark mage, you are a bad teacher!" This actually offends Richard who has to date only shown emotion when Alex ruined his plans two books prior in Fallen.
* Some of the articles can be pretty amusing as well. There's the hypothetical account of a novice fire mage attempting to break the Masquerade, running from approach #1 (Honesty) all the way to six (Testimony, Visual Evidence, Video Evidence, Eyewitness Evidence, Repeated Eyewitness Evidence), and then there's the last one...
--> Approach #7: Loss of Temper
--> Mage: "You think THAT'S not real fire? You believe me NOW, asshole?"
--> Normal: AAGH! I'M BURNING! OH GOD, THE PAIN, THE PAIN! MAKE IT STOP!
--> Things generally go downhill from this point on.
