The character of '''Fantômas''' is a curious example of AdaptationExpansion; originally, he starred in a series of [[TheEdwardianEra turn-of-the-(20th)-century]] French novels, as a masked DiabolicalMastermind. These novels were later adapted into movies. Somehow, however, the character also ended up as the star of a Latino-American comic book series during the [[TheSeventies 1970s]].

Fantômas was also the name of a villain in three films starring Creator/LouisDeFunes and Jean Marais. This version also was a criminal mastermind, but more like a SpyFiction supervillain and wore a blue rubber mask.
