The game gives you many, many hints about pretty much the entire plot here and there. We had to make a new page just to hold them tight.

* There is ''lots'' of this regarding Sissel's past.
** The very fact that [[spoiler:the dead can talk to each other, regardless of species]].
** One of the first lines in the game is [[spoiler:Sissel rhetorically asking if he can see any other dead bodies around aside the man in the red suit, and assumes himself to be him. There is in fact a second dead body in the scene that he can't see, and Sissel [[TomatoInTheMirror has taken appearance of the wrong one]]]].
** Sissel can't read or recall what objects do or what certain terms mean while dead, yet every other dead character can - except Missile, who legitimately wouldn't know due to being a dog. He figures his memory is fuzzy due to dying. [[spoiler:This is not the case: he really can't read and honestly doesn't know what certain objects do, nor what certain terms/concepts mean, because like Missile, he is not human.]]
*** If you examine the file Commander Sith is holding in Chapter 2, Sissel says that the file is written in some unknown language, [[spoiler:an earlier indication that cats like Sissel can't read.]]
** There's this bit of narration earlier on: [[spoiler:Too bad I can't just curl up and go to sleep with my tail wagging too...]]
** When you first meet Lynne, she mistakes herself for Inspector Cabanela and takes on his appearance. Seems like just a one-off joke that [[EstablishingCharacterMoment establishes]] Lynne as a PluckyGirl, right? [[spoiler:Wrong. It also shows that ghosts ''choose'' their form, and don't have to take the form that they had in life. Sissel made the same mistake, assuming that the spiky-haired blond man nearby was him.]]
** Related is the fact that not all of the other ghosts you meet have any memory loss from dying, and the ones who do have such in the ''very'' short-term. The only one who has any real trouble remembering who they are is Lynne in the above instance. [[spoiler:She immediately remembers who she is once she realizes which body is actually hers. That's also why Sissel never regains his memories until the very end - he's going the whole game in a form that isn't his.]]
** After Lynne hides in the small elevator, she says she likes to crawl in small and dark places. [[spoiler:Sissel remembers liking to do that too]].
** Cabanela mentions at one point that his coat is white, to show that there are no stains on it (as a symbol of his spotless record to show his determination to become the head of the division). Sissel quips that he'd prefer a black coat, which would be more practical by hiding any stains. [[spoiler:At the end, Sissel ''does'' have a black coat.]]
** Inside one apartment Sissel can let a rodent be spotted before it lands next to the dictionary, and he notes that the boisterous writer treats it as something to be hunted instead of feared. [[spoiler:Sissel says he can relate]].
** Very subtly, in the same location: when trying to get the phone over to Amelie, Sissel winds up inflicting all kinds of horrible injury on a rat without killing it. [[spoiler:Almost like he's toying with it.]]
*** Quite a lot of puzzles feature rats actually. [[spoiler:Like many cats Sissel just likes playing with rats and mice.]]
** Another subtle example. During the prison blackout, one of the guards states that he wishes he could see in the dark, [[spoiler:like a cat]]. Sissel quickly points out the similarity between night-vision and one of his ghost powers, [[spoiler:which is of course awfully fitting]]... Sissel also seems unfamiliar with the concept of darkness, commenting "Is this what they call darkness?", which makes sense considering, again, [[spoiler:cats can see in the dark]].
*** Earlier in Chapter 4, if you travel to the basement before going to Lynne, Sissel says he "can't see very well in this darkness, but it looks like a pretty strange room." [[spoiler:That's because he can't easily adjust to the night vision he had as a cat.]]
** When rescuing Jowd from the prison, who painted a portrait of Sissel, Jowd doesn't recognise the name when Sissel says he somehow knows him. [[spoiler:That's because the blond-haired man in red that he painted was named Yomiel.]]
** Sissel notes a couple times that he's developing a compulsion to knock down anything he can, which he attributes to his ghost powers becoming addictive. Actually, [[spoiler:that's some more cat-like behavior.]]
** At one point, to mean "out of danger", Sissel says "out of the water". A strange turn of phrase; shouldn't it be more like "out of the fire"? [[spoiler:Not if you [[CatsHateWater hate getting wet]].]]
** One missable conversation in the Junkyard in Chapter 6 has Ray tell Sissel that combining both his bad luck and Lynne's "makes good fortune". Sissel responds with, "I dunno. [[spoiler:By my math, bad luck plus bad luck equals a whole lotta bad luck]]"[[note]]'''Ray:''' You should check your figures.[[/note]], [[spoiler:in reference to the myth that crossing paths with a black cat could mean bad luck, and Sissel just so happens to be that black cat. ''The'' black cat with the red scarf, to be precise.]]
** In the Special Prison, one of the prisoners is rocking out on his guitar, [[DreadfulMusician making a terrible noise]]. Sissel has absolutely no idea what he's doing, and guesses that he's making noise to communicate certain feelings, such as [[spoiler:"I'm hungry" or "I'm thirsty"]]. Now, [[spoiler:what kind of creature assumes making noise = being fed]]?
** When Sissel is instructed by Lynne to read the blackboard [[spoiler:while inside the special prison]], he reveals that he can't read and has a FreakOut, assuming it to be because he's forgotten how to do so in death. [[spoiler:Assuming the words on the blackboard were in an understandable language, it should give the valid hint that Sissel isn't human.]]
*** Later on, when trying to save [[spoiler:Detective Jowd]] from death, the player can re-examine the blackboards, leading to different and missable dialogue. This time, Sissel asks his fellow spirit if they can read the board; they reply that they can, [[spoiler:indicating that Sissel's inability to read ''isn't'' simply because he's dead.]]
** The titles given to the people in the records are never replaced with their real names. It's strange at first, but makes sense, given that a lot of [[spoiler:animal narrators in fiction refer to humans as "that short one", "the chicken-eater", etc. instead of their real names]]. Not to mention sometimes the descriptions seem to imply that Sissel thinks that their job titles are part of their names. (E.g., "His name is "Detective Jowd.")
** On a more general note, Sissel's personality is, once you know the twist, [[spoiler:similar to the typical cat in fiction: aloof and unconcerned, but affectionate and friendly once a bond is made]]. Likewise, it's the reason Sissel considers Missile a little off due to [[spoiler:the stereotypical dogs-versus-cats trope]].
** During a conversation in Chapter 11, Kamila starts calling Sissel "Sissy". [[spoiler:"Sissy" is a perfect name choice for any pet, whether dog or cat, which conveys a sense of warmth and love; and Sissel happens to fit that personality as a cat. [[https://www.pageant.dog/name/s/sissy/ More info on the name can be found here.]]]]
** In Chapter 14, Missile's choice of words at one point is apt.
--->'''Missile:''' [[spoiler:I can reach out my paw a little farther than you can, Sissel.]]
** Chapter 15 [[StealthBasedMission requires you to avoid getting spotted using the powers of the dead]] by the main antagonist. However, he has [[ConspicuouslySelectivePerception an odd tendency to ignore things that should be suspicious just because he didn't see them directly]], and [[spoiler:if he catches you, he makes it clear that he recognizes you on some level]], both of which make a lot more sense after you learn that [[spoiler:Sissel, as his cat, was his OnlyFriend for quite some time, and the only being he has any real positive connection with at this point. Most cat owners eventually get used to their cats moving items around and knocking things over when they aren't looking, the exact same things as Sissel's ghost tricks.]]
** In Chapter 16, we have this talk:
--->'''Sissel''': What do you suppose that shock was a minute ago?\\
'''Missile''': I have no idea, of course. I'm just a little sheltered apartment dog!\\
'''Sissel''': (What with my loss of memory, [[spoiler:I can't say I'm much better...]])
** Later on in the same chapter, when the submarine suddenly tips to one side just before Lynne can get to the exit hatch, Sissel's choice of metaphor is ''very'' telling:
--->'''Lynne''': What happened now?!\\
'''Sissel''': [[spoiler:It looks like the submarine decided to rear up on its hind legs.]]
** In some of the optional dialogue in Chapter 5, Sissel gives us this line:
--->'''Sissel:''' That cop looks miserable. [[spoiler:He looks just like a drenched and dejected kitten in the rain]].
** There is an ''extremely'' subtle one regarding Sissel - [[spoiler:Sissel saves nine people, just like a cat has nine lives. It's so subtle because you only have a couple of seconds between saving the ninth person and finding out Sissel's species.]]
*** Specifically, you [[spoiler:save Lynne, Missile, Inspector Cabanela, the Pigeon-Headed Man, Detective Jowd, the Justice Minister, the Guardian of the Park, Detective Rindge (driving the van), Yomiel... and Kamila. Despite that being 10, you never directly see Kamlia die (arriving to save the Guardian of the Park after Missile has already saved her). This means that Sissel himself only "[[StealthPun possesses nine lives]]".]]
** If you return to the outdoor prison phone area with the moon in the sky above [[spoiler:(where Jowd was arrested by Cabanela)]], Sissel remarks that there's no point in going there unless he wants to look at the moon again. [[spoiler:As revealed later, Sissel has traveled and seen that moon before as a cat.]]
** When the park guardian is talking to Lynne, Sissel wonders why he falls silent by asking [[spoiler:"Cat got your tongue?"]] Moments later, Sissel himself goes quiet, and Lynne shoots back [[spoiler:"Hey! The cat's not allowed to get YOUR tongue!"]]
** When Sissel discusses the prisoner's schedules with Lynne, he remarks that [[spoiler:he doesn't get the sense that a schedule was something he had when he was alive.]]
** In one optional conversation Missile says that he's two years old, and Sissel idly wonders how old HE is. [[spoiler:Not much older, in fact. He's ten.]]
* The security footage [[spoiler:of Lynne shooting Yomiel]] has [[spoiler:Yomiel]] leaning against a pole. After being confronted by an assassin, Lynne backs up into the same pole, but moves away from it because it had barbed wire wrapped around it. And given what we later know about [[spoiler:Yomiel]]'s body....
* Early on, while trying to get Kamila under the couch, Sissel said that [[spoiler:it would be easier if he could possess her, but he can't do that. So Yomiel wasn't alone in wishing he had other powers.]]
* Whenever you run into Beauty, she uses a strangely familiar way of addressing you. In retrospect, it becomes apparent that [[spoiler:she thinks that it's Yomiel who keeps trying to spy on her]].
* Throughout most of the game, Sissel can visit the junkyard and have a short conversation with Ray to update him on the situation. Ray goes oddly silent and weak halfway through the game and soon stops moving altogether, which the player will most likely chalk up to the whole "dead tomorrow" thing. On the other hand, it seems Ray [[RippleEffectIndicator starts fading away]] around the time that [[spoiler:Missile is run over in the park...]]
** Speaking of conversations with Ray, if you go back to the junkyard and talk to him immediately after seeing the security footage of [[spoiler:Yomiel manipulating Lynne into shooting him]], Ray will tell you that "The truth is sometimes hidden in the shadow of what's being looked at."
** After Lynne dies for the first time, Sissel will notice that her corpse is not giving off the strange waves his own corpse is. Sissel assumes this is because he has the powers of the dead, [[spoiler:and Ray declines to confirm or deny it.]]
** When the flashback of [[spoiler:Missile dying]] is shown, his body does not give off the same waves that [[spoiler:Yomiel]]'s body does, either. Instead, the [[spoiler:Temsik rock under the crater his body fell into]] gives off the waves. [[spoiler:Yomiel]]'s body gives off the same waves for a reason.
* The medical examiner comments on overhearing the two detectives at the same time as Sissel, establishing the minor RunningGag of Sissel and someone alive echoing each other. [[spoiler:Of course, he's not your average bystander.]]
** Also, when examining [[spoiler:Lynne after she's shot]], his 'examining' animation puts his stethoscope in places it has no business being. [[spoiler:This isn't an accident. Cabanela later comments that the examiner's incompetence outs him as a fraud.]]
** It's not explicitly commented on, but there's also the fact that [[spoiler:the fake examiner has [[AmazingTechnicolorPopulation blue skin]], same as all the other people from the foreign nation we see - and all of them are explicitly in on Yomiel's plan.]]
* In the very beginning of the game when you possess a guitar instead of an out-of-reach wrecking ball, Ray expresses surprise. "I see... A guitar, then, is it? Ahem." [[spoiler:It turns out Ray is actually Missile, whose ghost powers have a longer range than yours do.]]
* Why do the prisoners get luxuries like music equipment, being able to paint, and a strange mind machine? [[spoiler:Because it's suspected none of them are actually guilty of their crimes, and the police are trying to figure out what the true cause was.]]
** This also explains why [[spoiler:it took so long to carry out Jowd's execution order; nobody really thought he was guilty, either, and they were just buying time until the manipulator revealed himself. Unfortunately, Yomiel and the hostage situation forced their hands (literally, in the case of the Justice Minister)]].
* When Sissel and Lynne get to the big red trunk next to Beauty and Dandy at the Chicken Kitchen, if you examine it, Lynne says the trunk is "very suspicious... and red" before suggesting that they see what's inside, but Sissel shoots down the idea by saying that it's not possible because it's locked, leaving Lynne disappointed. [[spoiler:Of course, they are unaware that the trunk contains Kamila, who is held captive inside.]]
* Attentive players can figure out [[spoiler:Lynne]] didn't intentionally kill Sissel [[spoiler:(actually Yomiel, though she also didn't intentionally kill Sissel either)]] as soon as [[spoiler:the video tape evidence is first shown, because the first shot misses due to Lynne clearly struggling with the weapon rather than shooting with the determination you'd expect from a real murder. Also, the entire time Yomiel is calmly leaning against a pole rather than fearing for his life, indicating he wanted to be "killed". Much later in the game, it's revealed that Yomiel's body was empty whilst he was possessing Lynne, meaning she was essentially just shooting a propped up "corpse" at that point.]]
* When [[spoiler:Missile]] gets his Ghost Trick power, the first thing he uses it for is to [[spoiler:save Kamila from the Mino statue. But by doing so, he accidentally drops it on someone else instead.]] What happens later? [[spoiler:Or rather, [[TimeTravelTenseTrouble earlier]], when that same statue is about to crush Lynne? Missile swaps it again, only for it to fall on Yomiel instead (granted, Yomiel got in its way on purpose, but [[BookEnds the symmetry]] is still there).]]
* At one time, when Sissel turns on the flashlight for Lynne, she asks him, "Did you used to be an electrician in your past life or something?" [[spoiler:She, of course, is not far from the truth, as Yomiel, whose form Sissel has taken throughout the game, used to be a computer systems engineer himself, and "one of the best in the industry."]]
* When you alter the [[spoiler:murder machine]] to avert one of Lynne's deaths, it [[spoiler:lights a party popper instead]]. This seems like just a cute little anti-climax. [[spoiler:It turns out this is how the original machine was SUPPOSED to work, which makes for nice symmetry. The first machine was a birthday trick altered into a murder machine by a ghost. The second machine was a murder machine altered into a birthday trick by a different ghost.]]
* In the 2023 UpdatedRerelease, a PreOrderBonus and the DemoBonus includes some fun side backgrounds for the left and right borders each featuring a character from the game. [[spoiler:Missile is an option for the right border like Ray and both cannot be set at the same time, hinting that they're the same person. The same applies to "Sissel" and the black cat left borders, which also hints to their connection.]]
