''The Covenant'' is a 2006 supernatural horror/thriller... [[UncertainAudience something]] film starring Steven Strait, Taylor Kitsch, Toby Hemingway and Chace Crawford as your average [[MrFanservice bromance group]], allowing for plenty of possibly intentional [[HoYay homoerotic]] [[FoeYay moments]].

[[ChildhoodFriends Four teenage boys]], [[TheHero Caleb]], [[TheLancer Pogue]], [[TricksterArchetype Reid]] and [[WhoIsThisGuyAgain Tyler]], have magic powers inherited from witches in colonial New England. When they're not jumping or driving off cliffs, the boys attend [[BoardingSchool Spencer Academy]]. At the start of the film, each boy is awaiting his [[TheHerosBirthday 18th birthday]], when he will [[TookALevelInBadAss "ascend"]] and increase in magical strength. But there's a catch: the magic is so addictive, it's "seductive," and the more it's used, the more the boys' bodies degrade and age prematurely. Enter Sarah, Caleb's [[SatelliteLoveInterest love interest]], and Chase, a mysterious {{new transfer student}}. [[FinalBattle You can imagine what follows.]]

Despite its potential, it is clear that the producers were trying to make a quick buck off the combination of [[{{Fanservice}} hot guys and magic]], resulting in plenty of {{Narm}}. In any event, it has an surprisingly large {{fanfic}} [[http://www.fanfiction.net/movie/Covenant/ community]], so there's that.

!!This film contains examples of:

* AlwaysNight: The majority of the film is well-lit, but dark.
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Kate
* ArtisticLicenseGeography: [[SarcasmMode Yup, Ipswich, MA, is right next to Marblehead and has many cliff-lined beaches.]]
* BattleInTheRain: The birthday battle at Putnam Barn gets pretty soaked.
* BlondGuysAreEvil: Reid has bleached blond hair and is indeed a dickhead. Though the BigBad is dark haired.
* CastFromLifespan: The more you use the power, the more it ages you. (Maybe this explains the DawsonCasting?) The main character's father is shown, who should be around 40, but looks closer to 100.
** This is only post-ascension. Before 18, they can cast spells all they want and won't age.
* ComboPlatterPowers: Among the powers shown, the boys have flight/levitation, shapeshifting, augmenting physical activities (like swimming faster), making constructs (like the spiders), and other powers are implied, if not directly shown.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Not only does Chase have one, but his family's dark and troubled past can be traced back to the Salem Witch Trials.
* DepravedHomosexual: Between kissing Caleb, killing various people, and not denying Aaron's accusations, [[spoiler: Chase]] qualifies.
* DistressedDamsel: Sarah.
* FlatCharacter: Tyler and Reid, to some extent.
* GoingCommando: See MarilynManeuver below.
* MarilynManeuver: The boys use their powers to do this to a FanserviceExtra.
* MrFanservice: The Sons of Ipswich.
* HeroicSacrifice: Caleb's father [[spoiler: wills him his power, killing himself in the process so that he can beat the villain.]]
* HighSchoolDance: A Halloween Dance. Subverted since Caleb and Sarah never get there.
* MagicIsEvil: Kinda. They keep as much evil overtone, especially emphasizing magic as deleterious and addictive, but the lead character is rarely anything but heroic.
* MindOverMatter: One of the powers the boys have.
* NeverFoundTheBody: The BigBad is seen thrown into a barn which then explodes. Nobody mentions finding a charred corpse. It was probably left as a SequelHook.
* NewTransferStudent: Both Chase and Sarah are new to Spencer Academy. Sarah plays the ScholarshipStudent card while Chase plays the [[MysteriousPast mysterious]] new kid.
* NighInvulnerable: With the power that the main characters have, it's apparently possible to survive a head-on collision with a semi truck.
* ParentalAbandonment: Of the intentional variety. Chase killed his father to get his power and then murdered his stepparents, making it look like a car accident.
* PubertySuperpower: Their powers started young, but get stronger on their 18th birthday. It's referred to as 'ascending', but we don't really see much of it.
* PutOnABus: [[spoiler: Pogue, who is last seen in the hospital after Chase kicks his butt.]] The other two boys hardly even show up for the movie's climax, as they're at the Halloween dance to not arouse suspicion.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: Kate and Sarah's lives seem to revolve around their boyfriends.
* SelfMadeOrphan: Subverted with Chase's biological parents, but played straight with his adopted parents.
* SixthRangerTraitor: [[spoiler: Chase]].
* SheCleansUpNicely: While Sarah's attractiveness was never in question, Caleb does have this reaction when she gets dressed up for the Halloween dance.
* ShirtlessScene: Quite a few, with the most utterly gratuitous and egregious being a long, lingering shot of Steven Strait and Taylor Kitsch in skintight swimming briefs.
* SlipknotPonytail: Sarah's hair is in an updo for the dance. Naturally it comes undone during the FinalBattle.
* SpearCounterpart/SpiritualSuccessor: To both ''TheCraft'' and ''Series/{{Charmed}}'' which were about female witches.
* TakeThat: At one point, just as they're about to [[ItMakesSenseInContext drive off a cliff to escape the cops]], Reid gives us this gem.
--> "Franchise/HarryPotter can kiss my '''AAAAAASS!!'''"
* TheQuietOne: Tyler. He gets maybe five lines in the entire movie.
* TooDumbToLive: Though both Kate and Sarah dabble in this, Pogue is surprisingly the worst offender. He escalates from petty jealousy and general jerk behavior towards the BigBad to charging into a fight against someone he knows is much stronger than he is.
* TooKinkyToTorture: The look on Chase's face after Aaron punches him suggests this.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: [[spoiler: Chase]] does this to look like Caleb at one point. By extension, the other boys can too.
* WildTeenParty: What the film opens with.
* WitchSpecies: These boys inherit their powers as descendants of the founders of the town.
* WizardsLiveLonger: Inverted.
